FROM THE EAST Brethren: Our Grand Master visited the 11th Masonic

Brethren

We had a wonderful pilgrimage to Pineland #86 in August where great food and great fellow-

ship were in abundance. Brethren we must start viewing ourselves as the spears of morality in

our communities with such turmoil around us and, as we all know, iron sharpens iron. We can

stay sharp by expanding our circles and constantly endeavor to learn from our brothers from

other lodges. I commend all the brothers who made the trip with us to Palatka and encourage

those who might have missed to join us in the future. At Pineland, I have the privilege of once again hearing the Closing Charge delivered by RW

Randy( gets me every time I hear it). There is a line in the charge questioning " is [ a brother]

justly reprehinded?" This question got me thinking. Without getting preachy I call attention to

the Book of Jonah where we are provoked to consider the choice between Grace and Judgment.

When we are blessed with the opportunity to council a brother, or anyone for that matter, we

have the choice to come to that person with Grace or come to them in Judgment. Coming to

Ashlar Lodge No. 98 Recognizes Past Master and Senior Members

Ashlar Lodge No. 98 Free and Accepted Masons honored a 50-year Mason; presented a Past-Master’s

Apron to its oldest living Past Master; and recognized its Senior Members at the Lodge’s Stated Communication

on Thursday, August 3, 2017, at the Masonic Temple in St. Augustine.

Bro. John Hickman King received his 50-year award at the Stated Communication. Bro. King, a Master

Mason in good standing in a Florida Lodge year with fifty (50) or more years Masonic Service was presented

with an appropriate certificate, pin, and card in recognition of such fact during ceremony which included Mason-

ic Grand Honors. The presentation was made by M.W. Robert P. Harry, Jr., Past Grand Master of Masons of

Florida and W. Oscar Patterson III, Worshipful Master of Ashlar Lodge No. 98 placed the 50-year pin on his

collar.

W. Harry Waldron, Worshipful Master of Ashlar Lodge No. 98 in 1975 was recognized as the oldest

living Past Master of the Lodge. W. Waldron was presented with a Past Master’s apron and his photograph was

placed in a special frame reserved for the oldest living Past Master. It is most interesting that W. Waldron’s

photo as Past Master hangs directly below the photo commemorating his year as Worshipful Master of the

Lodge. He was also presented with a framed copy of his Master’s photograph as a personal memento of his

Year in the East forty-two (42) years ago.

The Lodge concluded its presentations by recognizing those members aged eighty (80) or above. Each

such member received Lodge challenge coin and a Masonic lapel pin. Those members included: Richard Ames,

George Brennick, L. Edwin Brown, Robert Colpitts, Ed Dunn, Richard Hall, Mel Harvey, Daniel Holiday, J.B.

Hunt, Bobby Jones, Raymond LaForge Jr., Robert McMullin Jr., Daniel Partin, Dominick Perez, William Rob-

erts, John Roundtree, Gene Sikes, Cable Spence, Rufus Stratton, Edward R. Suart, Herbert Wiles, and Louis

Wise. The pins and coins were given to the Brothers present by Oscar Patterson III, Worshipful Master assisted
