The civil affairs authorities are sending 4,000 tents, 8,000 folding beds, 5,000 quilts and 5,000 coats to the earthquake-affected region. The Yunnan provincial earthquake administration has sent a 30-member working team to the epicenter to evaluate the situation. 1 NEPAL On 2 Aug, a landslide, triggered by continuous monsoon rains, caused 10 deaths, displaced 5,000 families and destroyed dozens of houses. Over 150 people remain missing. The landslide is blocking the Sunkoshi river, 120km from Kathmandu, forming a lake which is threatening to cause downstream flash floods. Governments in both Nepal and India are evacuating thousands of people along the river embankment. Responders are struggling to secure a controlled release of the water with continuous rain hampering access to the affected area. 10 dead 150 people missing The Government of Nepal is leading the response, with support from India and OCHA. The National Emergency Operations Centre has asked for health, food, shelter, WASH and logistics support in the most affected districts of Sindhupalanchok and Kavrepalanchowk. Led by the Resident Coordinator, cluster leads are currently reviewing contingency plans and stock piles. 2 INDIA On 30 Jul, a landslide occurred in Malin village, Pune district, Maharashtra state killing 107 people, including 44 men, 48 women and 15 children, according to media sources. 107 dead 60 people missing The Government-led response, including search-and-rescue operations, has been ongoing for more than five days, where an additional 60 people are believed to be trapped. Around 350 personnel from the Indian National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) are working to clear the debris and recover bodies. According to the NDRF, work continues to be hampered by heavy rain that has been falling continuously. About 60% of the site has been cleared. 3 JAPAN Tropical Cyclone Halong, the third typhoon in the northwest Pacific in 2014, rapidly intensified over 2-3 Aug. The Government of Japan is closely monitoring the movement of Halong, which is forecasted to approach the islands of Okinawa on Wed, 6 Aug, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). Meanwhile, heavy torrential rains have been recorded in western Japan caused by Tropical Storm Nakri off south Korea's western coast.
