The Asia Pacific Youth Dialogue was officially opened at the great auditorium of UESTC, Chengdu in the morning of September 21st .
The ceremony was facilitated by Ms. Smith Eunice, UNESCO Beijing Office and chaired by Mr. Du Yue of the China National Commission for UNESCO (China NatCom).
The 10 most popular youth delegates from the Show and Tell presented their costumes and briefly introduced themselves, their countries and cultures on the stage.
Mr. Li Yanrong, President of UESTC in welcoming everyone noted that “a hundred different cultures make the world a beautiful place.”
Mr. Yang Wei, Senior Political Advisor of Chengdu Municipal Government extended a warm welcome to all the participants on behalf of Chengdu government.
Dr. Marielza Oliveira, Director of UNESCO Beijing addressed the role that youth could play in promoting positive peace.
One foreign and one Chinese student of UESTC spoke on behalf of the youth, expressing their thanks to the organizers for engaging youth in Asia Pacific affairs.
Dr. Dhirendra Bhatnagar, Chairman of WFUCCA reaffirmed that “Asia Pacific youth can change the world.”
Dr. Robert Xiao Hong, CEO of Perfect World Co. Ltd. noted that “together, we can create a perfect world.”

Day ONE: Three speakers differentiated by nationality, gender, and age group delivered plenary addresses on the nexus between civilizations, cultures, social cohesion, respect for diversity and peace-building.
Prof. Liu Cheng reminded participants of the need “To understand, to tolerate, to accept, to value, and to join.”
Day TWO: Four speakers addressed the theme of “Engaging youth as agents of change and custodians of the future, regionally and internationally”.

Prof. Sahai Magadhcommented that “Every one is foreigner even in her or his own country, because diversity is the nature of human beings.”
Mr. Mark Lozanoinitiated the “a million lights” campaign, offering free electricity to poor families in rural Philippines.
