WELCOMEINVITATION FROM THE ELECTRICTY GENERATING AUTHORITY OF THAILAND
INVITATION FROM THE ASIA POWER WEEK EVENT DIRECTOR
On behalf of Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), the utility partner of Asia Power Week 2017, I would like to extend my warmest and heartiest welcome to all guests and participants in an occasion that Asia Power Week 2017 has returned to Thailand once again to celebrate its 25th anniversary. This year of 2017, this prestigious event comprises POWER-GEN Asia and Renewable Energy World Asia, with comprehensive world-class conference programs, various exhibitions from world-leading organizations and many outstanding activities which is to be held during 19-21 September 2017 at BITEC (Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre) in Bangkok, Thailand.
As the center of its national and regional economy and the hub of ASEAN region in infrastructural development together with an innovation-driven economy, Thailand is fully ready for the gathering of around 50 interesting conference sessions, exciting panel discussions, international exhibitions and workshops with over 8,000 power industry professionals and delegates across the world participating under the same roof. It is a great platform for all of you who share the same intention and interest to not only learn the latest innovations and inspiring experiences but also to strengthen global connections regarding the business of power generation and energy management.
Soaring complex challenges and risks in power generation and energy management throughout the world critically remind every power industry to actively develop ideas into innovative actions and effective changes especially energy stability and its security in both technology and business aspects. Among these challenges,EGAT has adopted a policy of a revival of renewable energy with heedful actions on its efficiency and environmental responsibility and strongly supports the disruptive business thinking and sharing in order to become a leading power industry player, who gains public acceptance and confidence from the nation, regions, and the world.
Finally, as the utility partner of the event, EGAT believes that Asia Power Week 2017 will be a promising opportunity for all participants to communicate, brainstorm innovative ideas and contrive significant solutions to global power issues. I wish you an enjoyable time at the event and have a pleasant stay in Thailand.
I warmly invite you, on behalf of PennWell, to join us in Bangkok this September to help us celebrate the 25th Anniversary of POWER-GEN Asia, which is an integral part of the wider Asia Power Week. We are extremely proud to have been serving the ASEAN, as well as the wider Asian power industry for a quarter century, and we look forward to continuing to serve by providing a forum where the industry’s wants and needs in terms of both strategic market thinking and the latest technology advances are met.
This year is exciting for another reason too. After many years and following an impressive expansion of the venue we are returning to the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), which is easily reached via the BTS Skytrain system.
Once again, in a valued partnership with our Advisory Boards, we have a strong conference programme for POWER-GEN Asia and Renewable Energy World Asia, and on the next page my colleague, Nigel Blackaby, provides an informative outline of what you can expect to hear discussed and covered this year. Running in parallel with the conferences, we are delighted to be offering two Workshops on the second day of the event. The first one is focused on the efficient and effective management of carbon emission, while in the second the challenges and risks faced in developing a secure and affordable gas market in Asia will be discussed. For more information, please turn to page 11.
I’d like to draw your attention to two other exciting additions to this year’s event. Firstly, we are in the process of organizing an ASEAN VIP Delegation, which will bring many of the key power producers and governmental figures from across the ASEAN to Bangkok.
And coupled with this, is the introduction of a new easy-to-use App-based Business-Matching Service, called hubsCONNECT, which will help you connect and meet with those attendees you wish to do business with. Finally, don’t forget we are running three Technical Tours on Monday, September 18 - see see page 10 for more information.
I hope you’ll agree we’ve got plenty happening at this year’s Asia Power Week, so to keep up-to-date on any event information, please regularly visit www.asiapowerweek.com

INVITATION FROM THE ASIA POWER WEEK CONFERENCE DIRECTOR
WELCOME
Thanks to the valuable contribution of our Advisory Board, POWER-GEN Asia and Renewable Energy World Asia has assembled a cutting edge conference programme, aimed at putting any power industry professional in possession of the very latest thinking affecting the electricity sector, whether it is the strategic direction or technological solutions. In the following paragraphs my intention is to give you an impression of what you can expect when you join us in Bangkok this September which, along with the conference grid on page 8-9 and the full programme, available on the website, will hopefully whet your appetite.
First of all, some very good news! For the first time, the event will be held in the new conference area of the BITEC exhibition centre and we can promise you that this will make getting to the event from the centre of Bangkok a great deal easier. Having visiting the venue myself and travelled to it on the air-conditioned BTS train, I am expecting an all-together great experience at BITEC.
As regards the conference this year, the Asia Power Week event will feature seven parallel tracks and you, as a conference delegate, are free to attend any of your choosing. In some cases those tracks cover more than one theme in order that all the topics chosen by the Advisory Board could be included.
There will be two tracks devoted to how the industry further develops the renewable energy sector and the implications for the sector as a whole as renewable penetration increases. Of course we take a look at some of the technologies and notable case studies but mainly what you will learn is what strategies are being employed to get renewable projects off the ground right across the Asia region.
Green technology is now a mainstream activity for power generators and developers alike and so the topic occurs in other themes, notably in the Trends, Projects and Planning Track. This theme will include carefully chosen country spotlights so you can get a picture of the emerging opportunities in the most interesting markets. We also focus on the gas to power story, where LNG is opening up new opportunities.
As always, you will find many finance specialists at Asia Power Week and the challenge of securing financial backing for projects is thoroughly debated under both the Power Finance theme and Renewable Energy World strategic track.
When it comes to technology, Asia Power Week delivers in both quality and quantity. The challenge for today’s plant operator is to create the most efficient operating conditions while minimising environmental impact and the Optimizing Plant Operation track delivers seven tailored sessions addressing just this. Technology is also to the fore in Track D where delegates can quickly get up to speed with the latest solutions in gas fired generation, coal plant technology, fuel flexibility and emissions reduction.
Track E mixes the topics of integration of renewables into the grid system, the not unrelated topic of energy storage and the trends in distributed generation. Of all the tracks, this one reflects the realities of a marketplace experiencing convergence and the emergence of new exciting participants.
Last but not least, our opening day will be dominated by the grand Keynote session, details of which will emerge in the coming weeks and the Joint Plenary Panel debate: Exploring the Opportunities for Digital Transformation.
Please take the time to browse the conference programme in full and please be aware that this is being updated daily on the show’s website. I can promise you the best in power engineering knowledge at this year’s POWER-GEN Asia and Renewable Energy World Asia and look forward to seeing you in Bangkok.
