Decanter tasting notes: Exquisitely fresh, spellbinding seams of tangy grapefruit twist and squeeze through pristine grassy tones. Herbaceous shades inspire and elevate, whilst a cool, flinty contour arcs through greener lilts. Compelling and luxuriant yet showing perfectly judged restraint and synthesis between vital fruit and arresting acidity. Sonorous.

Decanter tasting notes: Clean, fresh and well-evolved, with classy, restrained aromas and subtle intensity and tension on the palate. Typical bready notes and judicious use of oak.

Decanter tasting notes: Fresh and ripe, with an intensely dark, spicy nose, a full-bodied Cabernet with rounded fruits and great concentration. Textural, balanced and lovely.

5. Château Hourtin-Ducasse, Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux, France 2011(12.5%), 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc

Decanter tasting notes: Savoury nose, of leather and mushroom. The palate is fresh plum with truffle and spice.

6. Château Ramage La Batisse, Haut-Médoc, Bordeaux, France 2012(13%), 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc

Decanter tasting notes: Subtle oak on the nose with fresh berries and greengage. Mocha, dark spice, cassis and dark plum on the elegant palate, good tannin control giving a classy finish.

7. Barton & Guestier, Thomas Barton Réserve Privée, Médoc, Bordeaux, France 2012(13.5%), 48.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48.5% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot

Medal: Red Bordeaux Regional Trophy (DAWA 2015)

Decanter tasting notes: The beautifully elegant nose has pronounced leather and mocha coffee with some dark fruit, with a palate of intense dark cassis, mulberry and blackberry fruit, very well concentrated with just the right amount of tannin to give great structure, and lovely cedar hints in the long finish, classic.

8. Château de Belcier, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux, France 2012(13%), 69% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, 5% Malbec

Medal: Bronze (DAWA 2015)

Decanter tasting notes: Nose has cool mint nuances and dark spice. Palate is dense with fine grained tannins and a lovely depth of dark cassis and plum fruit.

9. Moulin de Gassac, Pont de Gassac, IGP Hérault, Languedoc-Roussillon, France 2014(13%), 35% Syrah, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot

Medal: Bronze (DAWA 2015)

Decanter tasting notes: A mature serious nose of sweet spice and barnyard hints. The palate is big with good fruit intensity and lots of spice and herbal hints, good complex wine.

Decanter tasting notes: Wild West style, with love-or-loathe barnyardy nose and somewhat savage and savoury palate; full-bodied, with bold tannins and long smoke and leather finish.

Decanter tasting notes: Elegant and intense mouthful of fresh and juicy blackberries and blackcurrants, long and lingering and deftly held in check by a spicy note and oaky nuance.

12. Tapada do Falcão, Rocha Rosa, Alentejano, Portugal 2012(14.5%), 50% Syrah, 25% Aragonez, 20% Alicante Bouschet

Medal: Bronze (DAWA 2014)

Decanter tasting notes: Lush red fruits nose with notes of leather, liquorice and dried red flowers. More red berry fruitiness on the palate, fresh and lifted, and firm underlying acidity.

Medal: North American Red Regional Trophy (DAWA 2015)

Decanter tasting notes: A clean, charming example of Syrah, showing rhapsodic purity of fresh berry fruit through to the fresh, persistent finish. Fabulous structure and gorgeously soft tannins play in perfect harmony with the rich flavour profile, setting sweet fruit against lovely shades of peppery spice and meaty smoke.A delicious Gold.

14. Howard Park, Mad Fish Shiraz, Margaret River, Western Australia 2013(13.5%), 100% Shiraz

Medal: Bronze (DAWA 2015)

Decanter tasting notes: Lightly savoury and full of smoky game notes on the nose, mint and bitter chocolate coats the spicy palate. Fresh and linear with a gorgeous subtle smoke to finish.

15. Feudo di Santa Croce, Celebration LXXIV, Primitivo di Manduria, Puglia, Italy 2013(14.5%), 100% Primitivo

Medal: Silver (DAWA 2015)

Decanter tasting notes: Intense and delicious black plum nose, with some sweet oak, dark fruit and violets.The palate is full and round with bright sweet focused black fruit, milk chocolate, and lovely refreshing acidity, good use of oak gives a long complex delicious finish.

Decanter tasting notes: Utterly textbook and intense Valpolicella, high acidity winds through the structurally precise palate, allowing intense fruit flavour to boom against dense, cushiony tannin to the lingering finish. Balanced, elegant and classic.

17. Fondo del Sole, Mediterraneo, Salento, Puglia, Italy 2014(14.5%), 50% Primitivo, 30% Negramaro, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon

Medal: Bronze (DAWA 2015)

Decanter tasting notes: Intense prune, fig and oak-derived spices. Very concentrated on the palate with lovely tannins, good refreshing acidity, intense black plum, black cherry and licorice flavours, ending long and juicy.

18. Ferraro, Madonna Alta, Sagrantino di Montefalco, Umbria, Italy 2010(14.5%), 100% Sagrantino

Medal: Silver (DAWA 2015)

Decanter tasting notes: Lovely dark-fruited nose with an appealing undercurrant of rose jam. Dense palate with firm, sweet tannins, a tasty smoked, cured meat background and a spicy note on the finish. Will keep for a further five years.

19. Dionysos, Oenomelo, Korinthia, Peloponnese, Greece NV(11%), 60% Moscato, 20% Moschofilero, 20% Roditis

Medal: Bronze (DAWA 2015)

Decanter tasting notes: Floral and aromatic, with lovely intense citrus, warm licorice and heady bergamot characters, a very pretty, smoky character is established. Intriguingly balmy, Earl Grey infuses on the palate.

20. Cabral, Carácter Reserva, Douro, Portugal NV(20%), 25% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca, 25% Tinta Roriz

Medal: Silver (DAWA 2015)

Decanter tasting notes: Black-fruited aromas are channelled on the palate with a focus on sweet cassis. Very concentrated and rich in the mouth with a nice balancing acidity which delivers a powerful yet elegant wine with a good clean finish.

21. Cabral, 10 Year Old Tawny, Douro, Portugal NV(20%), 25% Touriga Nacional, 25% Touriga Franca, 25% Tinta Roriz

Medal: Silver (DAWA 2015)

Decanter tasting notes: Hints of dried fruit on the nose and a blackcurrant-driven palate with a tasty spicy finish. The rich nutty depth underpinned by fresh acidity ensures a very elegant, rich mouthful.
