Physical Description
• Asian Carp is grayish silver lining very shiny, the eyes are on the side of its face. They also have a big mouth, with no teeth.
• The Asian carp fish is found only in the great lakes around Michigan, and Asia where they are from
Behavioral Description
• The behavior of the Asian carp is crazy, when boats come through the rivers they are in the carp start jumping around everywhere like in this picture.
• Asian carp reproduced rapidly due to there large size and ravenous appetite.
Habitat & Niche
• The Asian Carp are found in the Great lakes on the out skirts of Michigan.
• When boats come down the river they are easily freighted and start jumping, they can jump 8 to 10 feet in the air, causing many fisherman to be severely injured including cut, black eyed, broken bones, back injures and concussions.
Environmental Effects
• Asian carp are tremendous threat to the great lakes and could devastate the lakes if they enter our great lakes eco system.
• Due to their large size ravenous appetite, and rapid rate of reproduction, Asian carp poise a significant threat to the great lakes ecosystem by consuming large quanties of phytoplankton and competing with native fish for habitat.
History
• The Carp fish came from Asia and have populated to the Great Lakes
• Asian Carp have got there from escaping into lakes and rivers, rivers such as the Mississippi's river, from southern agriculture faculties in the early 1990s.
Control Measures
• People are putting in new infrastructures and physical barriers, and blockades to keep the Asian carp out of our waterways.
