TIMELINE

1) Tashkent, UZBEKISTAN: The First Meeting

On September 2017, Mr. Sheik Alau’ddin Yacoob Marican, PBM, President of Asian Pencak

Silat Federation (APSIF) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Singapore Silat Federation

(PERSISI) had been invited to Asian Fight Championship held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

It was there that he became acquainted with Mr. Aleksandr Shlychkov, President of European

Para-Taekwondo Union from Cyprus and Mr. Denis Vladimirov, President of Russian Burmese

Kickboxing from Russia.

Mr. Sheik Alau’ddin then introduced them both to PENCAK SILAT, which they both took

interest in and expressed their wish to visit APSIF headquarters to (in the words of Mr.

Shlychkov himself) “feel the soul of the sport”.

2) CYPRUS-SINGAPORE: Confirmation

On Tuesday, 17th October 2017, Mr. Shlychkov wrote in to APSIF to confirm his visit to

Singapore. During the trip, he would undergo pencak silat training with Mr. Vladimirov.

Ms. Noorazlina Binti Mohd Noor, Manager of APSIF then proceeded with the arrangements,

appointing Mr. Mochammad Ichsan Nur Romadhon, National Coach and Ms. Nur Fazlin Binte

Juma’en, a former national athlete and current High Sports Development Executive from

Singapore Silat Federation (PERSISI) to conduct the training.

Mr. Romadhon would take up the responsibility as the pencak silat coach, while Ms. Nur Fazlin

would run through GRASIO pencak silat syllabus with them.

3) SINGAPORE: Arrival and Training

Mr. Shlychkov and Mr. Vladimirov then arrived in Singapore on Sunday, 22nd of October 2017

together with Mr. Shlychkov’s wife, a doctor and classifier of para-taekwondo athletes in

Cyprus. They checked in to Hotel Boss at Jalan Sultan.

1.4 Mr. Shlychkov and Mr. Vladimirov on their first day of training.

Training began on the next day where they were welcomed by Ms. Nur Fazlin and Mr.

Romadhon. The 5-day training was conducted from Monday, 23rd October to Friday, 27th

October 2017. The courses included are rules and regulations, basic pencak silat movements,

GRASIO syllabus and also kerambit training with Mr. Mark, a friend of Mr. Sheik Alau’ddin.

Overall, both Mr. Shlychkov and Mr. Vladimirov absorbed the lessons quickly. They were also

impressed with the sport’s cultural backgrounds and anticipated in introducing pencak silat

to their respective countries.

4) SINGAPORE: Appreciation Ceremony

On the final day of the training, Friday 27th November 2017, APSIF and PERSISI had organized

an appreciation ceremony to conclude Mr. Shlychkov and Mr. Vladimirov’s visit in Singapore.

The ceremony’s agenda included demonstrations of match and artistic performance by

Singapore’s national athletes as well as farewell speeches by Mr. Sheik Alau’ddin, Mr.

Shlychkov and Mr. Vladimirov.

The guests also received recognition certificates, plaques and gifts as a token of appreciation

for their interest in pencak silat.

5) SINGAPORE: Final Day and Departure Back to Russia

On Sunday, 29th October 2017, Mr. Sheik Alau’ddin, accompanied by Mr. Romadhon had

personally driven the three guests to Changi Airport.

In conclusion, the training program have gone smoothly and we would like to thank Mr.

Schlychkov, Mr. Vladimirov and also Mrs. Shylchkov for attending the training in Singapore.

We look forward to our future collaborations with both Cyprus and Russia on pencak silat’s

journey to the Olympics.
