SOI MARA Program Assessment Report Page 1 PROGRAM I NFORMATI ON Date submitted: March 1, 2018 Degree Program(s): Master of Archives and Records Administration (MARA) Department: School of Information Department Chair: Dr. Sandy Hirsh Phone: 4-2491 Report Prepared by: Dr. Patricia C. Franks Phone: 4-2494 Next Self-Study due: Spring 2018 E-mail: [email protected] ARCHIVAL I NFORMATION Location: http://ischool.sjsu.edu/about/mara- program-performance Person to Contact: Patricia Franks [email protected] Assessing Individual Program Learning Outcomes (Core Competencies) We continue to analyze the data presented by students via the e-Portfolio (MARA 289). The goal of the e-Portfolio is to provide program-based assessment to ensure that each student demonstrates mastery of all program learning outcomes (core competencies) for the degree before graduation. It is a class in which faculty supervise (evaluate and assist) but do not teach. Students present essays with supporting evidence to show that they understand and can meet the competencies. They also show their ability to synthesize and the knowledge they’ve gained as well as themselves. The faculty feel that our model of checking how many revisions are needed for each statement of competency serves us well, and we will continue to use this method to assess student achievement of core competencies. Our goal is to achieve an average of 2 or fewer revisions for each Statement of Competency (the essay in which they demonstrate achievement of a specific PLO guided by rubrics). Required Courses and PLOs The Statements of Core Competency supported by evidence from required MARA courses are shown in Table 1.
