BRIEF HISTORY
The Asian Psychological Services and Assessment Inc. (APSA) was conceived by its founding President,
the late Dr. Leticia Azusano in 1987. It started out offering assessment and psychological services to the
industries. In 2003, it introduced the Philippine basic education to Standards-Based Assessment (SBA)
following the international standards set by McREL and the national educational thrusts of the Department
of Education (DepEd). Little by little, it has developed SBA materials for higher education.
APSA is well reputable in the national and local assessment communities. It is known for the successful
marriage of science and social mission in measuring learning proficiencies and individual performance. It
has earned a seal of reliability in its operations through its ISO certification. With its reputation, at present,
APSA provides services to over 260 clients—including some state agencies, schools, and industrial
establishments—nationwide and overseas.

STANDARDS-BASED ASSESSMENT (SBA) MATERIALS
The SBA materials of APSA are of high quality and the best assessment materials one can find in the
country today. They are based on national curriculum standards of the Department of Education (DepEd)
and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) as well as on international standards of McREL and the
global development and economic communities. They are intricately designed by experts and qualified
practitioners to target 21st century competences. They also meet various expectations of APSA, its
clients, the client community, national agencies, and other stakeholders. Their results are delivered
electronically and in print, right at the doorstep of APSA clients.

They determine the level of proficiency of student for the competences of the core subjects of the K to
12 curriculum: English, Mathematics, and Science. They provide accurate, comprehensive and dependable

SBA for Grades 1-10
New products available for Academic Year (AY) 2017-2018 (Available on the last week of June 2017)
SBA for Grade 11 is in its league of its own. Assessment materials neatly meld national and international
standards tailored cut to different teaching and learning domains. It is composed of three achievement
tests for each of the core curriculum subjects:

SBA for Grade 12 is the most advanced assessment design of APSA. Assessment materials are highly

Pre-elementary Assessment Test (Available on last week of June 2017) is the latest version and made fully
aligned to the K to 12 curriculum. It contains comprehensive test to assess the readiness of preschoolers

Assessment for Junior High School Potential
A comprehensive test to assess the potentials of elementary school graduates to tackle the high school
academic level and can also be used for screening and diagnosis. It consists of three assessment
components:
Achievement Test assesses school based learned abilities, tapping knowledge and skills
learned in grade school particularly in the subject areas of English, Mathematics and
Sciences
Aptitude Test measures learned abilities that have been developed by their life
experiences and consists of Verbal Reasoning, Numerical Reasoning, Numerical
Reasoning, and a segment on non-verbal cognitive skills, specifically, Abstract Reasoning
Affective Component measures study habits of students in the following dimensions:
planning, organization, time management, metacognition, self-regulation, response
inhibition, task initiation, flexibility, and persistence
Assessment for Senior High School (Available in AY 2016-2017)
A comprehensive test to assess the potentials of Junior High School students do Senior High School work.
It determines the academic track most suited for the students and reconciles differences with their desired
academic track. It provides the best perspective and suggestion to prepare the students for academic
demands of Senior High School. It has three assessment components:
Achievement Test measures the school based learned abilities in English, Mathematics,
and Science
Aptitude Test determines the innate based learned abilities in Verbal Reasoning, Abstract
Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning and Spatial Ability
Affective Test assesses the “cultivated” multiple intelligences, interests and study habits
acquired through years of schooling

College Readiness Test (Available in July 2017)
A comprehensive test to assess the readiness of Senior High School students, those in Grade 12, to enter
an academic degree program and manage academic requirements in college life, in view of the labor market
expectations for the 21st century. It has three assessment components:
Achievement Test measures the school based learned abilities in English, Mathematics,
and Sciences. It covers the foundational competences that students should have mastered
from Grades 1-6 and form the base of their learning in high school and college levels. It
comprehensively assesses how well students can cope with academic pressures in college
given their proficiency levels for the core curriculum subjects in Grades 7-12.
Aptitude Test assesses the innate based learning of the students in Verbal Reasoning,
Abstract Reasoning, Quantitative Analysis, Logic, and Knowledge Management.
Attitudinal Survey looks into the predisposition of students for collegiate life by assessing
their learning styles, coping mechanism and adaptation, management and leadership
abilities, and commitment
Work Readiness Test (Available in October 2017)
Revolutionary assessment package that determines the readiness of students to enter the labor market
and assume work responsibilities after graduating from Senior High School or from College schooling
levels.
General Technical Ability assesses the foundational work competencies that graduating
students must meet. It has four assessment sections: Abstract Reasoning, Quantitative
Analysis (Reasoning and Numerical), Effective Communication, Computer Literacy, and
Managerial Ability
Soft Skills: Critical thinking, Creative thinking, Complex thinking, People Management,
Coordination, Decision Making and Judgment, and Cognitive flexibility
Trait Survey measures the motivation of students to achieve in work setting. It covers
assessment of the Affective, Conceptual, Instrumental, Purposive, and Evaluative Abilities.
SPECIAL ASSESSMENT FOR HIGHER EDUCATION
It is comprised of reliable assessment materials that gauges readiness of students to complete academic
requirements for select academic degree programs.

Assessment for Accountancy Potential
A combination of three tests which form a strong base for selecting students for the upper accountancy
division level.
Achievement Test measures school based learned abilities that reflect skills in Basic
Accounting, Financial Management and Ethics, Principles of Economics, Business Statistics,
Communication, and Computer Application
Aptitude Test measures innate based learnings that reflect abstract reasoning, deductive
reasoning and critical thinking
Accounting Quality Scale (AQUAS) assesses traits essential for an accountant and reflect
accounting dispositions such as planning and human relations, to ensure success in the
profession.
Assessment for Criminology Potential
This material is very helpful and reliable assessment package for students intending to complete a college
degree in criminology and pursue professional police service. It consists of three major components:
Achievement Test measures their school-based learned abilities in Industrial Security
Management, Police Organization and Administration, Psychology of Crimes, and Criminal
Law)
Aptitude Test assesses innate abilities in Visual Series, Visual Discrimination, Object
Manipulation, Word Analogy, and Numerical Aptitude
Attitudinal Survey assesses attitudes of students toward crimes measured in terms of
Certainty, Severity and Celerity
Assessment for Engineering Potential
A combination of three tests to gauge selection of students for the Upper Engineering division level.
Achievement Test measures how competent students have been for courses in lower
Engineering level such as Algebra, Calculus, Geometry, Trigonometry, Drafting, Physics,
Chemistry, and Communication Skills
Aptitude Test determines the innate based learned abilities in Mechanics, Structural
Visualization, Logic and Abstract Reasoning

Attitudinal Inventory and Study Habits assesses the traits that are essential to an engineer
or which may contribute to one’s success in the Engineering profession. It also measures
study habits acquired through years of schooling.
Assessment for Maritime Potential (Available on second week of July 2017)
An assessment package intended to gauge capacity of maritime students to proceed to upper level of their
degree program in B.S. Maritime Transportation or B.S. Maritime Engineering. It consist of three materials:
Achievement Test measures school based learned abilities in core curriculum subjects
(English, Mathematics and Science), and technical maritime courses according to CHED
curriculum and Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for seafarers
(STCW) standards
Aptitude Test measures the innate based learning abilities consisting of number and letter
series, visual discrimination, progressive series and figure ground perception
Maritime Aptitude Scale assesses the stress tolerance, work pressure level, competence,
risk behavior, reporting culture, and safety attitude
Assessment for Nursing Potential
A reliable test that constitutes as strong base for selecting students to proceed to upper Nursing Division
Level. Is consists of three assessment materials:
Achievement measures what has been learned in the lower Nursing division level. It
covers the courses of Psychology, Communication, Algebra, Basic Physical Sciences and
Basic Life Sciences
Aptitude Test gauges the innate based learned abilities of students in Verbal Reasoning,
Quantitative Reasoning and Abstract Reasoning
Attitudinal Inventory assesses the traits that are essential to a nurse or which may
contribute to one’s success in the Nursing profession
Assessment for Teaching Potential
A combination of three tests to form a strong base for selecting students for the Upper Education division
level.

Achievement Test measures what has been learned in the lower Education division level,
specifically in the basic courses of English, Math and Sciences, and specialized education
courses such as Human Development, Facilitation of Learning, Principles of Teaching, and
Assessment of Student Learning.
Aptitude Test assesses the innate based learned abilities including inference, deductive
reasoning, abstract reasoning, mathematical reasoning, and verbal reasoning.
Affective Test assesses the level of passion towards teaching and beliefs about teaching
which may contribute to one’s success in the teaching profession.
INDUSTRIAL ASSESSMENT
It is an assessment package befitting the complex needs of any institution in the era of organizational
transformation. How an individual --- whether owner, manager or staff --- creates and manages resources
as well as add value to the organization and ensure the well-being of its stakeholders is a major interest
of the industrial test. This material can be custom made to suit the setting not only of industries but also
of schools, government offices and development organizations.
This assessment package measures the competence of a professional, whether applying for or employed
at work, to contributing to the core mission, vision and goal of the organization. Result of the assessment
can also be used by organizations in designing and implementing professional and personal development
programs for their executives and staff. Assessment contains the following components:
Mental ability measures the cognitive functions required for mental jobs of work. These
functions are Verbal Aptitude, Numerical Aptitude (Reasoning and Computation), and
Abstract Reasoning.
Trait Survey measures the motivation to achieve by focusing on Affective, Conceptual,
Purposive, Instrumental, and Evaluative components.
Management inventory assesses management skills on Affective Component,
Organizational Sensitivity, Management Control, Quality of Decision Making and
Judgment, Ethics, Leadership, and Organizational Skills.
Battery Test
Mental ability measures the cognitive functions required for mental jobs of work. These functions
are Verbal Aptitude, Numerical Aptitude (Reasoning and Computation), and Abstract Reasoning.

Work Habits Profile surveys work behavior yielding a profile on Energy (activity and enthusiasm),
Order/Scheduling, Deference, Interpersonal Relations, Emotional Stability, and Perseverance.
Trait Survey measures the motivation to achieve by focusing on Affective, Conceptual, Purposive,
Instrumental, and Evaluative components.
Supervisory Attitudinal Survey measures one’s degree of adherence to accepted principles of
supervision proven to contribute to sound supervision resulting in efficiency, productivity and well
being of employees in an organization.
Clerical Aptitude assesses various aspects of a clerical job such as Checking (inspecting words and
numbers for similarities and differences), Coding (memorizing rote material and to coding
information correctly), Filing (adhering to standard filing practices).
Sales Orientation Survey (SOS) measures selling interest and motivation level. This inventory
consists of two parts. The first part identifies the examinee’s orientation. The orientations, which
results from the relative importance placed on the concern to make a sale vs. concern for the
customer, are as follows: Just-A-Job Orientation (JJ), Friendly Salesperson Orientation (FS), Sales
Technique Orientation (ST), Hard-Sell Orientation (HS), and Person-Product Orientation (PS).
CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS
APSA’s global vision for all Mathematics teachers of APSA SBA subscribers in the Philippines is to have an
international mathematics certification. Suken is an international, standardized Mathematics Certification
program that APSA has been administering for the Mathematics Certification Institute of Japan in the last
10 years. It consists of 10 certification levels called KYU from where prospective applicants can choose
to be tested.
Future certification programs
APSA takes part in uplifting the quality and standards of Philippine education. As such, it presently
endeavors to develop short term and long term certificate-based training programs. Please await for

Online assessment is the newest assessment platform of APSA. It connects students to wifi-
connected computer system which they actually use in retrieving test questions and answering
them.

Regular questions are the test items that APSA developed and uses in assessing competences of
any individual at any given time.
Customized questions are the test items that APSA prepares-on and by-demand for requesting
clients.

The past reporting system of APSA reflected very well the standards targeted for each of the
question in its assessment materials. However, APSA has embarked on developing a revolutionary
system of reporting to assist schools in assessing teaching and learning, meeting accreditation
requirement, gauging effectiveness of interventions, and so forth.
SBA materials for the schools

Basic report includes separate reports on individual, school (masterlist) and
nationwide performances, as well as on 5 year descriptive analysis of school
statistics (means, frequencies and patterns of improvement or decline in
performances) using pretest data, post test data, or the paired data of pretest and
posttest, depending on available school information.
Special reports include separate reports on individual, school (masterlist) and
nationwide performances. They also contain technical interpretation of the
dimensions of teaching and learning being assessed as well as provide suggestions
and recommendations for students and schools.
1. Content coverage reports the extent to which a core curriculum subject as
well as its content has been effectively covered. It is assessed mainly through
the proficiency levels attained by students from the topics actually taken up
and competences they acquired from the said subject.
2. Cognitive domain skill reports the performances of students on different
components of higher and lower learning order skills. The results provide a
perspective and insight on how schools can hone instructional skills of
teachers.
3. Cognitive domain calibrator reports the content area of skills that are
important to factor in assessing competences of students. The results provide
a perspective and insight on how schools can hone instructional skills of
teachers.
4. Learning skills reports the proficiency levels attained for each dimension of
learning skills that national and international education communities as well
as the global labor market expects from students.
5. Test score gains analytics contains separate report on the 5 year period SBA
school data which presents the following:

Basic report contains the numerical profile (standard score and percentile rank)
as well as the qualitative description of the individual.
