Each morning begins with breathing, meditation and an invigorating asana practice, followed by a short break. The remainder of the day is broken up into experimental learning, teaching opportunities and individual and group work and often more physical practice. Anatomy, yoga philosophy and technique projects and projects will be assigned throughout. There will be a mid-day meal break. Please make sure to notify Breathing Room Yoga Studio + Café if you would like to partake in the optional meal plan. We encourage all trainees to partake in a vegetarian diet throughout the training. Breathing Room is near a park; we’ll soak up the sun and train outside as much as possible. Director Suzanne Blackwell, ERYT 500 - RYT 500 Central Alberta’s only 200 hour Teacher Training Intensive follows the criteria and standards of the Internationally recognized Yoga Alliance 200-hour yoga teacher certification. Upon completion of the course and required assignments and evaluations, students are eligible for certification and official registration with Yoga Alliance. Students will receive their Breathing Room Yoga Teacher Training manual on the first day of the session. Other required texts are to be purchased prior to the course start date. A list of required text will be sent to you following you confirmed acceptance as well as assignments to be completed prior to the 200 hour Teacher Training. Become intimate with your practice, attend as many classes you can and expose yourself to all styles. Get on your mat, it will always have your back. Discussion will include benefits of asana, contraindications for injuries + specialty classes Teaching Methodology: principles of learning styles and safe demonstration of asana, assisting, modifying and correcting. Teaching special populations: children, youth, athletes. Tapping into different styles: Hatha, Yin, Flow, Ashtanga/Power, Kundalini + Therapeutic Voice + Language: finding your teaching voice and vocal confidence through effective communication Philosophy + Ethics: Eight limbs of practice, ethical issues, yogic texts (sutras) responsibilities, gifts + possibilities Leadership + the Business of Yoga: development of personal teaching style, self promotion, setting up and managing a class Practicum: students observe + teach throughout the training and develop an eye for student needs, practice safe adjustments Energy Anatomy: Nadis, chakras + subtle energy Yogic Lifestyle: looking deeper into your lifestyle, exploring doshas, diet, nutrition + sustainable living. TBA - Trainees will receive a pre-intensive study + assignment package to be completed before the training. We want to set you up for success!

Your Instructors

Suzanne Blackwell, ERYT 500 - RYT 500 Suzanne’s path to yoga really started with her background as a wilderness adventurer, nature lover, professional athlete (mountain-biking) & coach, and especially when she began martial arts practice in1995. Suzanne has been practicing Kundilini yoga for many years (since she first started her diverse yoga diet). Suzanne began her YAA Hatha teacher training in 2005 and started teaching in 2007. She then decided to supplement her experience with specific Therapeutic Yoga training with kinesiologist Susi Hately-Aldous (a program now called “Calm Steady Strong” + Yin Yoga Teacher Training. Suzannne completed her Ashtanga teacher training with David Swenson in 2010. Most recently, she completed her one month intensive RYT-500 hour teacher training with Doug Swenson in Lake Tahoe, California. Bonnee Gregg, RYT 200 + Co-owner of Breathing Room

Krista VandenBrink, RYT 200 + Co-owner of Breathing Room Krista attended her first yoga in 2006, with the goal of meeting new people, and finding some solace and relaxation in in her workaholic lifestyle. What she found, however, was a passion for the practice and in the spring of 2010 travelled to India for five weeks to complete yoga teacher training. Having worked with professional athletes, expecting mothers and their partners, children, teens and adults with diverse life and yoga experiences, one of Krista’s most gratifying yoga experiences occurred when she was invited to introduce a yoga program to the local Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Prerequisites All teacher trainees must have a dedicated yoga practice + ooze a passion for yoga, life and serving others. All aspiring teachers must complete the Breathing Room 200 Hour Teacher Training application and participate in a brief interview. For those applicants living outside of Red Deer, Alberta, you may be required to submit a 5-10 minute video of your yoga practice. Not an ASANA-ROCKSTAR? Not to worry, we look at passion, compassion, commitment to learning and living consciously and the desire to share the practice much more than personal abilities. However, this vinyasa style training is physical and dynamic; the more time and dedication you give to your physical practice prior to training, the more comfortable and confident you’ll feel. Tuition + Important Dates  

Bonnee’s relationship with yoga began over twelve years ago, when her mother became part of a yoga + cancer study at the University of Calgary. Accompanying her mom to weekly Yoga Thrive sessions, a therapeutic yoga program designed for cancer survivors, triggered something deep within her and she was hooked. Years later, her practice led her to India Where she pursued her 200 hour RYT teacher training with Himalaya Yoga Valley. Her most recent yogic adventures include assisting in an Yoga Alliance RYT 200 hour teacher training in Goa, India, studying therapeutic yoga, becoming certified in Yoga Thrive + teaching Acro inspired yoga workshops.
