Administrative Coursework RequirementMust be completed by Jan. 30, 2013Administrative and Supervisory

Certificate (Admin I)—AP Pool onlyObserving and Analyzing

Teaching I (OAT 1)—AP and ASA PoolOAT 1 refresher is provided for those

who completed OAT 1 more than three years before application

Future Administrators’ Workshop Requirement (FAW)For the AP Pool only,If not currently an administrators, complete the full-length FAW before applying to AP Pool

If a current administrator, take a 1-day FAW refresher designed for your needs

Submit certificate showing completion of FAW or the refresher

Minimum of 3 recommendations from principals/supervisors

At least one recommendation from current, direct supervisor/principal

Recommendation forms will be available on the MCPS website

For the AP Pool only,Required: 1-hour written

assessment to be completed at OHRD

Writing prompts include typical AP scenarios

Writing is evaluated on the following:• Following directions• Problem-solving skills• Language, mechanics & tone

Minimum score of 20 out of possible 25 points is required

Each written response will be scored by at least two independent scorers. A third scorer may be used if necessary

INTERVIEW—AP OnlyOnce entry requirements are met, qualified candidates will be invited to interview for AP PoolPanel of principals/directors will conduct interviewsScoring rubric will be used during interviewCandidates are encouraged to bring a portfolio of workA satisfactory review from this panel will be the final step in the approval process

QUALIFICATIONS FOR INTERVIEW

Application process begins Oct. 29, 2012

Evidence of coursework completion and submitted recommendations are due by Jan. 30, 2013

All written assessments must be completed by March 1, 2013

Interviews will be held March 4-8, 2013 at OHRD at 45 W. Gude Drive

Final List of AP Pool Candidates will be released to principals on March 22, 2013

Final List of ASA Pool Candidates will be released to principals on March 22, 2013

If selected into the AP or ASA Eligibility Pool, you will receive written notification from OHRD of acceptance

If selected into the AP or ASA Eligibility Pools, you may:Apply for advertised vacanciesReceive request-for-interview calls from

principals and receive a call from the principal with an offer

If selected to fill an AP or ASA vacancy, selection must be approved by the deputy superintendent of school support and improvement.

If not selected to fill an AP vacancy, you will remain in the pool for a maximum of three years

If not selected to fill an ASA vacancy, you must apply for the ASA Pool again next year

Length of Tenure: 3 yearsIf you are currently in the AP Pool under the previous requirements, you are not required to meet new requirements.

Renewal RequirementsAfter 3 years, all candidates will take 1-year break before reapplying

After 3 years in the AP Pool, OHRD or OSSI will conduct an EXIT interview with exiting candidates to help them identify personal leadership experiences to pursue during 1-year break

Once eligible to reapply, candidates must:

Submit 3 new recommendationsEnsure OAT I certification is updatedParticipate in 1-day refresher FAWContinue to meet standard on all evaluations

Interview with Principal/Director Panel if renewing for first time under the new requirements
