• A student may be blind or not able to see well.

The Importance of Assistive Technologies

Apple iPad/iPhone

• Have many useful controls and apps for a vision impaired student.

• VoiceOver control

• Speaks to you before you click on an app

• Easy to remember shortcuts, helping students use the i-Pad, without looking at it

• Evernote (downloadable app)

• Supports VoiceOver

• Stores voice notes, photos and text so they can be accessed over any device.

• LookTel Money Reader (downloadable app for iPhone)

• Announces the exact value of paper money, by taking a picture, using the camera on an iPhone or iPad

Braille Note Takers

• Useful tool for the visually impaired

• Can connect to a computer using a USB port

• Helps identify which letter is which, by the use of the braille keyboard

Personal Frequency Modulation (FM) System

• Useful technology for

• hearing impaired students

• students who have trouble concentrating with background noise

• Consists of the following:

• a transmitter microphone for the speaker

• pair of headphones that receives the information from speaker

• Receiver (headphones) can connect to hearing aid, if necessary

• great way to include every student even if they don't have a disability.
