Schweitzer Story

A history of innovation. History may only be important as a learning experience to those who have lived it; but, to people considering affiliating with a company, history gives insight and a look at the firm's foundation.

In 1953, my mother --Violet Schweitzer--entered the real estate industry as a sales associate for a local firm. She later became the office manager and in 1962, she and a partner bought the firm. In 1966, her partner retired and she established Schweitzer Real Estate, Inc. Within a few short years, it grew to be the largest independently-owned real estate firm in the Detroit area. My mother's substantial growth was based on two important philosophies: developing knowledge through training and a commitment to customer service.

I joined the firm in 1967 as a sales associate and became president in 1972. In 1990, we affiliated with Coldwell Banker. Coldwell Banker Schweitzer operates 14 offices with over 600 sales associates, selling a volume of over $3.5 million per day in residential real estate.

Over the years, our company has received recognition locally and nationally. We consistently receive awards as the #1 Affiliate in the 13-state Midwest Region of Coldwell Banker and consistently rank as one of the top affiliates nationally. Both Crain's Detroit Business and Real Trends, a national industry newsletter, rank us among the Top 100 residential real estate firms in the country.

Our business culture is rapidly changing, and we are on the forefront of this change through a commitment to business planning. We have invested heavily into programs such as marketing, technology, relocation services, education, support systems, and benefits to assure our mutual success.
