We welcomed Mary Roddy to the treasurer position and were delighted to meet members of the recently formed St. Therese Circle, who have already held their first successful fundraiser! We reviewed the many calendar dates, including our Celebrate the Children event on November 14th. We are so close to reaching the $500,000 level for our Endowment Fund, and the Endowment Committee is going all out in making sure this event gets us there. We have received a number of amazing items for the raffle prizes and obtained very generous sponsorships — thank you to everyone who is working on and supporting the event. Look for more information in this newsletter and on our updated website. We also talked about the increasing challenge of attending board meetings that are held in the middle of the day on what for many of us, are workdays. We agreed to try something new. For this coming year, 2015-2016, up to three of our board meetings will be held in the evening. The preferred locations will be the parish centers of parishes that are home to strong Circles. An announcement of the evening board meeting (to include a brief background about the ACC) will be published not only in that parish’s bulletin for two weeks prior to the meeting, but also in the parish bulletins of neighboring parishes. Board members and others who would like to carpool are invited to contact the ACC Office and we’ll help get those arrangements made. The hope is that an evening meeting will reflect our understanding of changing times, and also open the door to others who may be interested in learning more about ACC. Certainly, it will provide opportunity to see us in action and hear about our wide-ranging activities. So to that end, the November 17th board meeting not only will be held on Tuesday rather than Wednesday, but also will begin at 7:00 p.m. at the Our Lady of Fatima Parish Center, 3218 W Barrett St, Seattle. Announcements will be placed in the Fatima parish bulletin, as well as in the bulletins for St. Alphonsus and St. Anne. This is still a couple of months off, but if you know you’d like to share a ride with another member, please contact Deirdre in the ACC office. Other evening meetings are still to be determined. We’ll see how this idea works over the course of this year, and will share with you any feedback. The October 14th board meeting will be held at 10 a.m. in the CCS office and feature Erin Maguire, who will speak to us about the PREPARES program. Thank you for all you are doing for the children. CURRENT FUNDRAISERS

Dear ACC Members,

We started this year of service and advocacy with a well attended board meeting —-September 9th.

The October 14th board meeting will be held at 10 a.m. in the CCS office and feature Erin Maguire, who will speak to us about the PREPARES program.

Thank you for all you are doing for the children. We have a busy — and wonderful! — year ahead.

ACC NAME CHANGE

Association for Catholic Childhood is moving ahead with our name change initiative. Marilyn Price is the committee chair and Colleen Cook will offer legal advice. We are asking all members who have a vested interest in this process to please contact Monica Scott, [email protected], Marilyn Price, [email protected] or the acc office, [email protected] if you would like to offer suggestions, insight, historical perspective or join us for a committee meeting. We are looking for views that share all concerns regarding this initiative.

St. Therese Circle joins ACC! The newly formed Circle, based at St. Louise in Bellevue, host-

ed their inaugural fundraiser, Cooking for a Cause on August

29th! Members of St. Therese prepared summer sensational

themed dishes that any "foodie" would be excited to serve.

The recipes were compiled into an e-Cookbook, which was

distributed to all who attended and donated to the event.

Pregnancy Support provided a compelling speaker, who was

able to share a personal story, and help our members and their

guests connect wholly to our cause. More than 40 women

joined us for a great evening, and we had our own 6-8th

grade kids assist in preparation and serving.

stocked Pregnancy

Support’s shelves this

summer with a fantastic

diaper donation!

In addition, we sent a cartload of school supplies

along to YTP who expressed their thanks to Francis

donations. With our support,

many needy children are given

a chance to rise and excel.

CELEBRATE THE CHILDREN

Every other year ACC hosts our Celebrate the Children event to “fund the

fund”. Our focus for this event is to have fun, remember why ACC members

work hard to fund grants “For the Children”, reconnect with friends over a

lovely dinner and hear a compelling story about why Association for Catholic

has been supporting needing agencies since 1819!

It’s hard to imagine how the many women that founded this organization

would participate now, but I’m sure that compared to the hours and hours of

work in the Fantasy Fair, making baked goods and serving the needs of so

many, the Celebrate the Children event would be very appealing to them!

This event focuses primarily on raising funds for our Endowment, with the

goal that we can continue ACC in perpetuity, using interest earned to

enhance our efforts with Circle projects to support our specific “women and

children’s community.”

Please mark your calendar for Saturday November 14th and ask a few new

friends to join us! Bingo and amazing Raffle baskets will be offered, along

with dinner, friendship, dessert dash and “Celebrating the Children.” Won’t

you join us?

It’s so easy to forget the many things that need to take place when reviewing your

estate paperwork. ACC has been the beneficiary of many wonderful gifts from

circle members, spouses and friends because members did mention their

requests to family members. ACC thanks those families for their thoughtfulness.

Here is our Endowment Committee’s suggested obituary wording to include in

your estate plan paperwork and share with your family members:

“In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the ACC Endowment Fund, for

children and families in need. Association for Catholic Childhood,

100 23rd Avenue South, Seattle, WA 98144 or online at: ACC — Endowment Fund “
