• Au cours des decenies recentes les problèmes des maladies emergentes et re-emergentes ont fait leur apparution et attiré l’attention des décideurs et des professionnelles de la santé sur les ménaces que posent ces maladies ò travers le monde.
• Ce sont des menaces qui peuvent affecter les animaux , les humains ou les deux comme observer recemment avec les cas de SARS, Avian Influenza (H5N1), Human Influenza (H1N1), Ebola en Afrique de l’Ouest .
• Dans chacun des cas la propagation rapide des epidemies a fait
monter la pression sur les governements en term de diagnostique, treatement et de controle.

• Recentes recrudescences de maladies comme Ebola a sonné l’alarme au niveau des governements Africains et les ONGs aux dangers que font face le publique et le monde agricole.
• La pluspart des strategies de containement des agents biologiques au cours des eruptions d’epidemies ont ciblé la gestion des cas d’infection.
• Par conséquent les mesures de biosecurite et de biosurete particulierement au niveau des laboratoires et des autres structures de santé doit etre developper pour contenir les different éruptions périodiques.

• Biosafety awareness has been
promoted through Biotechnology innovations (Mainly GMOs) within the framework of the “Cartegena Protocol”

Promoting Biosafety and Biosecurity as a scientific discipline in the African continent
The specific objectives of the course were:
» To enhance collaboration and networking between laboratories in areas of biosafety and biosecurity, including risk assessment on implementation of these principles among west African countries.
» To identify the training needs of west African Institutions with the purpose of ensuring their proper qualifications for enforcing biosafety and biosecurity principles.
» To design and implement training programmes that increase knowledge and skills towards biosafety and biosecurity in west Africa.
» To utilize knowledge and skills in biosafety and biosecurity towards designing and implementing surveillance and molecular diagnostic systems and laboratory practices that
strengthens infectious disease detection and responses in west Africa.
» To seek International cooperation towards reducing the risk of biological threats by collaborating with governments to develop biosafety and biosecurity standards that are consistent with national and international guidelines, norms and requirements.
The general objective of this workshop: is to enable participants from institutions drawn form West African region to strengthen national skills for the
assessment and management of risks of biotechnology and to accomplish specific goals towards achieving laboratory biosafety and biosecurity, and sustainability of public and veterinary health networks.
» To achieve this we have selected participants based on their future role as Biosafety Professionals in laboratories & Institutions

MABBA Activities & Perspectives
• Its members are healthcare professionals and representatives of the medical, animal and vegetable biology sectors in Mali.
• In its executive committee are represented experts of different institutions such as the Malaria Research and training Center, the Centre National d’Appui à la Lutte contre la Maladie, the Center for Vaccines Development, the National Institute of Research in Public health, the Veterinary Central Laboratory, the Hospital of Mali, the National Blood transfusion Center, the Charles Mérieux Center of Infectiology and the National Health Department.
• MABIOS has been contributing to the development of different National & International workshops in Mali.
• Presentation of different biosafety & biosecurity topics at the University (FMPOS/FAST) USTTB.
