Astra comes with a widerange of brilliantly efficient,multi-valve petrol engines.The well-respected Twinport1.4i 16v and 1.6i 16v modelsfeature a variable intakemanifold for high performanceand fuel efficiency, and low emissions.

The new 1.8i 16v VVT unit,producing an impressive140PS, uses Variable ValveTiming technology to muchthe same affect. And thentheres the 2.0i 16v Turbopetrol engine, with its water-cooled turbo-chargerand intercooler, and availablein two versions a hot 170PS and extra-hot 200PS!

AND EFFICIENT DIESELS

The hot ticket in diesel enginesis common-rail fuel injection.All four Astra diesels the sporty1.9CDTi (120PS and 150PS), the100PS 1.7CDTi and the 90PS1.3CDTi feature common raildiesel technology and the resultsare clear. TRANSMISSION CHOICE

In addition to the five- andsix-speed manual gearboxes,Astra is also available with afive-speed Easytronic andboth four- and six-speedautomatics. And all 1.3CDTi,1.9CDTi diesels and 2.0i 16vTurbo petrol models come witha six-speed manual, helpingyou make the most of theirincredible potential.

EASYTRONIC TRANSMISSION

Choose the optional Easytronic transmission and youll get a five-speedmanual gearbox with a fully automatic mode. In manual mode, yousimply push the lever forward or back to shift gears up or down. Thefacia display tells you what gear youre in 1 to 5, N for Neutral or A forAuto. Switch to fully automatic mode and it has many of the featuresof a regular automatic including a kickdown function. Theres no clutchpedal so you can drive it on an automatic-only driving licence.
