Types and classification of houses

The 12 houses or Bhavas are classified in several groups:

The Dharma houses

1. Houses 1, 5 and 9 are the Dharma houses.

2. Those houses are related with the sense of duty, mission in life, the way the soul

progresses in the spiritual evolution, the philosophy of life, religion, spirituality,

type of worship, spiritual teachers and learning, honesty and moral values.

3. Those are considered the most auspicious houses, since following dharma or duty

brings "good luck" due to good karma.

4. These houses show the good karma from the past and how it affects this present life.

5. Planets placed on those houses as well as the houses they rule tend to prosper and

be favorable to the native and also indicate the way the person progresses spiritually in

life and creates good karma for the future.

6. These Houses is also called the Trikon Bhav or Laxmi Bhav.

The Artha houses

1. Houses 2, 6, and 10 are the Artha houses.

2. Artha relates to the material and physical support of life.

3. They relate to the prosperity, wealth, work, material success and recognition.

4. The 2 nd house relates mostly with wealth in general, family wealth or wealth that

comes without an effort.

5. The 6 th house represents the capacity to do an effort and work hard to get what you

need, and the possible obstacles in life and capacity to overcome them.

6. The 10 th house represents the success in career, status or position in society, name

and fame.

The Kama Houses

1. Houses 3, 7 and 11 are the Kama houses, related to the desires and the possibility to

fulfill them.

2. The 3 rd house relates mainly with personal ambitions and motivations.

3. The 7 th house represents mainly the sexual desire and attraction to the opposite sex

and the desire to have close committed relationships and partnerships.

4. The 11 th house relates more with the desire for money, gain and possession of the

desired objects. It also relates with the desire to enjoy friendship and social

relationships.

The Moksha houses

1. Houses 4, 8 and 12 th are the Moksha houses

2. Those houses relate with the liberation from the material bondage, and from the

creation of Karma and attachment.

3. Moksha is the highest goal of life, the return to the source from where the soul came

from, to attain absolute illumination and freedom.

4. That requires detaching and letting go the material world and thoughts for the full

immersion into the spiritual consciousness.

5. The 4 th house relates with the path of devotion or Bhakti, surrender of the heart

(opening of the heart chakra) and sublimation of the emotions to God and the

experience of cosmic love.

6. The 8 th house relates to the destruction of the spiritual ignorance and purification

from previous "papas" or bad karmas and awakening of the Kundalini energy, the

spiritual power which brings the capacity to control and have mastery over the mind

and conquer death.

7. The 12 th house represents the complete surrender of the Ego and sense ofindividuality to God, detachment from the material possessions; it is the path of

renunciation, seclusion, monkhood and surrender.

The Kendra houses

1. Houses 1, 4, 7, and 10 are the Kendra or "angular" houses.

2. They represent the strength of the chart and life as a whole, and give the capacity to

achieve the desired goals.

3. Planets placed in those houses are strong and have a capacity to express their energyfully.

4. Benefic planets placed here are very supportive and add to the longevity and success

in life, while malefics can cause a great deal of difficulties.

5. The 10 th house is considered the strongest and planets placed here tend to dominate

the whole chart and can sometimes be even more predominant than the ascendant

on their effect in life and personality.

The trikona houses

1. Houses 1, 5, and 9 are the trikona or trine houses.

2. They correspond to the Dharma houses and are the houses of good luck, success,

wisdom and knowledge.3. Planets no this houses prosper and benefices placed here bring good luck and good

opportunities in life due to past and present good actions and moral character.

The Upachaya houses

1. Houses 3, 6, 11 and 10 from Lagna are called Upachayasthanas houses or "houses of

growth

2. Planets placed in those houses tend to grow and improve over time.

3. The malefic planets placed here (specially on 3,6 and 11) are a great help to overcome

all sort of difficulties in life.

4. These places help growth. As a person gets older these sthanams and the planets in

these, help the native. Upachayam means "increasing" and "growing".

5. The third house is called a place for courage, confidence.

6. The sixth house is called a place for enemies, perseverance and work related issues.

7. The tenth house is called a place for profession, career, promotions in career,

challenges faced and how one overcome that effectively.

The Dushtana houses

1. Houses 6, 8 and 12 are the dushtana houses, or houses of suffering and difficulties.

2. The 3 rd house is also be considered as a dushtana, but with a milder effect (the 3 rd is

the 8 th from the 8 th).

3. Those houses are adverse for the material prosperity and well being and planets placed

in those houses and the houses they rule tend to suffer, be obstructed and be sources

of pain in life.

4. The people or parts of the body that the planets placed on those houses represent, willtend to be a source of pain.

5. If the planets paced here are exalted or in own house it is actually beneficial and give

the capacity to endure, or overcome pain and difficulties.

6. The 6 th house relates with obstacles, diseases, accidents, enemies, and debt.

7. The 8 th house relates with obstruction, death, darkness or depression.

8. The 12 th house relates to loss, separation, endings.

In spite of that, they are also important houses for spiritual growth and if they are strong and well disposed the

represent the capacity to practice Yoga and liberate from pain.

Panfar House

The houses next to the Kendra houses are referred as the Panfar houses. The 2nd house, ,

8th house and the 11th house are called as panfar house or "succedent" houses.

Those houses correspond in meaning to the fixed signs, related with stability,

preservation, income and material security.

Planets placed on these houses are considered moderate in strength.

1st Panfar house-2nd house

1. The second house in the natal chart is commonly known as Panfar house, Marak house,

house of wealth, house of speech.

2. 2nd house denotes Money, family, speech, vision, right eye, reason of death of the life

partner, ideas, savings, face, physical wellness, teachers, lawyers, bankers, stock and

stock markets, neighbour, documentation, collateral objects, bank money, money

matters, self - efforts, accumulation and receipts .

3. Jupiter is the Karak of the second house. It controls the money and family matters.

Speech is controlled by Mercury. Eyes are concerned with the Sun and the Moon.

If the 2nd lord is exalted and aspected by Jupiter the native will have considerablewealth.

4. Yoga related to education is formed with the second house and 4th house. A person born

in this Yoga receives high education, family support and a huge amount of hereditary

2nd Panfar house-5th house

1. This is called the house of intelligence This signifies intellect, children, brain, maternal

uncle, pilgrimages, speculation, sexual affairs, astrology and other occult sciences, soul,

father.

2. The fifth house is also called Prem Bhava. It is the house of learning and is known asTrikona or Panfar bhava. This house represents children, intelligence, gambling, fame,

position, intellect, emotions, first womb, sudden wealth - receipt of property, good

ideals, father's godly work, memory, flirtation, affairs, virtue, devotion, foresight,

reputation, government assistance, ministerial jobs, publications, sports,

stock, stock market, word class, puzzle, love relation, courting, kidnapping, religiousthinking, spiritual, exercise, rape, society, romance, accomplishment, somatic pleasure,

clothes, belly, worship.

3. Jupiter is the Karak Planet. It provides a person with education, learning, wisdom,

intelligence, spirituality, children and fame. Mercury being the Karak planet blesses

with wisdom, lottery, gambling and sudden wealth.

4. If the 5th lord is placed well in between the beneficial planet the native will havepiercing intellect.

3rd Panfar house-8th house

1. Eighth house is the 3rd Panfar houseThis is called Ayur bhava. 8th house represents

nature of death, sins, destruction, punishment, private parts, operations, danger from

poison, obstacles, sickness, accidents, murder, accusations, sorrow, money from partner,

speculations, magnetism, witchcraft, and final exit.

2. The 8 th house can bring wealth trough inheritances or wills but it is also a dushtana

house, capable of bringing negative results as well.

3. Saturn is the karak. Presence of Saturn gives long life. If the lord of 8th,1st combines

with saturn the native will have long life.

4. If the 8th lord joins the 12th lord there will be a short life.

5. If the Saurn is in the 12th house and the lord of the 8th is in the 2nd house with the

benefic then the death of the native will occur at the age of 21st year.

6. If the Saturn joins the Sun and occupies the 8th death will occur from the canine bites.

4th Panfar house-11th house

1. The 4th Panfar house is called as Labha Bhava or House of gains. This house

represents gains, wealth, language proficiency, friends ornaments, elder brother,

freedom from misery and pain, drinking habit, second wife, liquor shops, general success.2. Jupiter is the Karak. If the Jupiter occupies the 11th house and is aspected by the

mercury the person gains reputation as philosopher and lecturer.

3. If the 11th lord is the benefic and aspected by the benefic and placed favourably the

native will b attracted towards ornaments.

Note :On the whole, the panfar houses like Appokilm and upchaya are in the category ofbenefic as well as malefic group of houses. .

The Apoklima houses

1. Houses 3,6,9 and 12 are called the Apoklima or cadent houses.

2. Planets placed on these houses are considered weak or not very powerful.

3. Those houses correspond in meaning to the dual signs.4. Among them, the 9 th house is the best since it is also a dharma house and planets

placed here are strong and tend to bring good luck.

5. The 12 th house is considered the weakest one and planets placed here have difficulty to

express their energy in the material concrete level, but they can be good for the spiritual

advancement.

The Maraka houses

1. The 2 nd and 7 th house are called the Maraka or "killer" houses, and have the

capacity to cause death or disease.

2. Usually the death o a person is during the Maha Dasha or Antar dasha and/or transits

of a planet placed or associated with those houses or the ruler of those houses.

3. The ruler of the 8 th , 12 th and 3 rd houses or planets placed on those houses are also

capable of causing death.

Badhak Bhav(Houses)

1. For fixed nature sign/zodiac(Taurus , Aquarius, Leo , Scorpio ) 9th house & its lord is

badhak.

2. For movable nature sign/zodiac(Aries , Cancer , Capricorn , Libra ) 11th house & its lord

is badhak.3. For dual nature sign/zodiac(Gemini , Virgo , Sagittarius , Pisces ) 7th house & its lord is

badhak.
