"Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating disease in which the insulating coversof nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged.A demyelinating disease is any disease of the nervous system in which themyelin sheath of neurons is damaged.

Multiple sclerosis is the most common immune-mediated disorder affecting thecentral nervous system.An immune disorder is a dysfunction of the immunesystem. The cause of MS is unknown; however, it is believed to occur as a resultof some combination of genetic and environmental factors such as infectiousagents. "
