Esteemed Readers: Dear readers: Thiru Onam, the festival of flowers, is celebrated by Keralites all across the globe. This commensurate with the Hindu belief that the King Mahabali was pushed into Paatal by Vamana, a reincarnation of Mahavishnu. People expect their King to visit them on Shravana star when Sun transits into Leo sign. The word festival should have derived from “feast well”. Any way, Onam has been a festival of elaborate and palatial feast by Keralites. Time has passed. Modern festival includes toast of intoxications too, which is unavoidable.

However we can find majority are common from these ancient texts. I Visakha 4 pada: Visakha 4 Constellation. Birth sign is Scorpio and sign lord is Mars. According to the Constellation the native belongs to Brahmin Varga, Rakshasa Gana, Antya Nadi, Vyaghra Yoni, and Sarpa Varga. Whereas if you judge Star of the Cusps then apart from 7 planets you will also look into the Nodes Rahu and Kethu for judging the same. Hence all the 9 planets would get portfolios of the cusps. Whether these Cuspal Star Planets are giving the results of these Cusps? I request all the seniors would offer their feedback on this topic. For Vrichika Lagna the Cusps 1,5,9 are in Watery Signs (Moksha) and the Lords of these houses (Mars, Jupiter and Moon) are very much helpful to each other. Kona Lords are Trijnamas Father Son and Grandson. You can observe that Mars, Jupiter and Moon are trine lords connected to Dharma. Mars lord of 1 and 6 is powerful in giving Lagna and sixth results if Mars is well placed, service, competition; Jupiter as lord of 2n5 trine lord gives good raja yoga as per Parasara. Generally indicates good for finance, family matters, birth of children, marital happiness, good health, easy conceiving; Moon as lord of 9 also Bhadhaka indicates good in higher education, Purvapunya, Pilgrimages, etc. Opportunities for teaching profession or good education with foreign studies.

If these three houses (I V IX) connected to Jupiter (II& V) then the results are (1,2&5), (5,2&5) and (9,2&5) signification 1st connection which is favourable for long life and good health, fine arts, speculation; 5th connection good for progeny, spousal/ family matters; 9th connection indicates good knowledge, happy life, travelling extensively. If they are connected to Saturn (III & IV) then the results are (1,3&4), (5,3&4) and (9,3&4) signification 1st connection is favourable for long life and attached to mother, native place and possess fixed assets; 5th connection delayed progeny and displeasure or disappointments thru them; 9th connection indicates good for higher studies, frequent travels connected with studies, pilgrimages, etc.

Finally if these cusps are connected to Mercury (VIII &XI) then the results are (1,8&11), (5,8&11) and (9,8&11) signification 1st connection gives long life, with difficulties and congenital health concerns, away from parents; 5th connection indicates pleasurable pursuits, affairs which may not be fruitful, delay in progeny or difficulties from them; 9th connection indicates breaks in higher education / Medical sciences, inheritance.

Second Triplet Cusps are the 2,6,10 which are Fiery Signs (Jupiter, Mars & Sun) are connected to Money, Service and Profession/ Job indicates Artha. Jupiter as lord of 2n5 indicates money thru speculation/ fine arts and fair means; Mars lord of 1n6 indicates success, competition, destruction of ill health, good for gains; Sun as lord 10 gives good in office and Govt. favours/service.

o If these three cusps (II, VI & X) connected to Kethu (Node) would determine the outcome basing on Kethu’s Signification (Nodes conjunction, Aspect, Star Lord and lastly the Sign Lord) – Kethu’s nature is negative, but if it connects to 6th is good for long life, spiritual progress and success in Kethu Major period; but when it connected to 2nd speaks bad about marital happiness unless he / she marries a spiritual partner who is not interested in sexual matters; connected to 10th troubles in career.

o If these Cusps are connected to Venus (VII & XII)) then the results are (2,7&12); (6, 7&12); and (10,7&12); signification 2nd connection is good for marital affairs, business and abroad connection for business; 6th connection gives good money thru business and not favourable for married life; 10th connection would give lack of satisfaction in job and tensions in job which is favourable for good business.

Third Triplet Cusps are the 3,7,11 Houses which are Earthy Signs (Saturn, Venus & Mercury) are connected to Kama. Saturn as lord 3 gives long life, short journeys, Venus as lord of 7n12 is god for marital; Mercury is lord of 8 n11 does not help at all to this Ascendant as enemy to Mars with 8th portfolio.

If these three cusps (III, VII & XI) connected to Sun (X) then the results are (3,10), (7,10) and (11 &10) signification 3rd is favourable for money making, good speech, higher position in job (Astro Secrets); 7th connection gives good money thru business; 11th connection would give good money thru profession and properties of spouse.

From the above it could be summed up that normally the Cusp Stars and the owners of these stars if they signify good cusps for that particular Ascendant then it will improve that Bhava concerned or otherwise the Bhava concerned would be in problem unless the native was born in Cuspal Interception where the cusps would shift either clockwise or anticlockwise wherein the predictions would be done on

In this birth chart we have clearly noticed that the prenatal chart is also very important in analysing birth charts and rectification of birth times. The festival of Onam is celebrated on the full moon day in the 22nd nakshatra, Sravana in the month of August or September every year. Onam Festival is celebrated in the beginning of the first month of Malayalam Calendar, Chingam (Simha). This month corresponds to Bhadrapada in Indian (Hindu) Calendar when sun transits in its own sign Leo. Prior to sravana nakshatra lies the most auspicious nakshatra ‘Abhijit’ .This nakshatra defines the spiritual grace of lord Vishu, the protector and so the muhurta associated with this nakshatra is considered very auspicious. Hence the nakshatra was sacred to lord Vishnu. It is believed that all evils are to be destroyed and neutralized by the effect of this nakshatra. Lord Krishna says in Bhagawadgita, "Amongst the nakshatras I am Abhijit". It is in this part of the celestial muhurtha that Indra and the Gods achieved a convincing & lasting victory over the Demons.The Abhijit nakshatra falls between the 9th and 10th day of the festival Thiruvonam , popularly called so in the state of Kerala.

The day of Onam is regarded auspicious and people believe that it is on this day that the spirit of the most benevolent King of Kerala, Mahabali comes to visit his people. The day has mythological significance also, as people believe that it was on this particular day Lord Vishnu took his fifth avatar as Vamana and sent Lord Maveli to the nether world (pathalam) and as King Mahabali was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu the day became sacred for the people of Kerala.

They began to celebrate the festival on this day as Sravanotsavam or Onam.People believe that it is on the last day, Thiruvonam that the spirit of King Maveli visits Kerala, hence the day is marked by feast and festivities. Devotees of Maveli celebrate the day to welcome their revered ruler, people lay flower mats (Pookalam) in the front courtyard, prepare a grand meal (Onasadhya), they dance, play and make merry. All this is done to impress upon King Mahabali that his people are prosperous and happy.

The carnival of prosperity is marked by the arrival of the Onam and continues as an event for ten days, starting from the day of Atham and culminating on Thiruvonam. Atham and Thiruvonam are the most important days for Oman festivities. Atham is regarded as auspicious and holy day by people of Kerala. It is very wise to note that both Atham (hasta) and Thiruvonam (sravana) nakshatras are ruled by moon, hence the clarity, purity and transparency is clearly reflected as the festival is celebrated by Hindus, Muslims and Christians alike in the state of Kerala. The nakshtra Shravana- Thiruvonam lies between , 10°00' and 23°20' in Capricorn, the 10th house of the zodiac. This nakshatra is a combination of the stern, wise but cold saturn and the moon, another firm lunar energy thus making it the brightest visible nakshatra. Lord vishnu is the chief presiding diety of this nakshatra. The term shravana stands for shra- hearing and vana- the wise limping character as saturn.This implies the significance of this nakshatra on the positive side as hearing and heading the advices of the wise , the experienced people who includes doctors, teachers and other advisors. Moon signifies the use of mind and saturn the required concentration to look through. Hence this nakshtra stands to signify saraswathi, the goddess of vidya. It is not all about listening but also considering the importance of the words and acting according to that. Any activity started in this nakshatra always reach its completion, thus this nakshatra carries the masculine touch of vishnu, the protector of the universe and the feminine grace of sarawathi , the bestower of knowlegde which relates to logical thinking , reasoning and learning, but her influence imparts some sensitivity to the thoughts. This nakshatra basically relates the making of a yearning student. Its signifies the role of teachers and preachers, scholars , scientists and reseachers in all fields; communicators and language translators; story tellers and Narrators like our great grand mothers; Comedians who can bring the cheer in us ; counsellors who can guide and promote , Psychiatrist who can tune up your mental ability , astrologers who guide with their divine knowledge of predicaments etc. The emphasis again is basically on communication which involves again the three blessed steps - to hear , to consider and to put it in action. Sravana is supposed to be a Passive nakshatra. It stays mostly at the receptive end and gives time to listen to others. In fact it tends to let things organize themselves rather than interfere in the process of making. This is a good nakshatra for attaining wealth and material accumulation in general. By caste this auspicious nakshatra is termed an outcaste, raising quite a question mark , but a closer look here , explains the connection of this nakshatra to the working class people who used to take dictates from their lords as orders of their master. Moon and saturn share a very strong relationship and signifies cold liquids so primarily this nakshtra represents "Kapha"( phlegmatic constitution ) and basically its strength is directed towards the south and northwest directions. Its sexual animal is Monkey, which indicates more affinity towards affection and playfulness than the actual sexual act. Those under the influence of this nakshatra are prone to talk more about it rather than actually indulge in it. The downfall of this nakshatra usually lies in excessive generosity which leads to debts and poverty. If a person under a strong influence of this nakshatra is poor, one can very well declare that this poverty is self inflicted, rather than being fated. Most activity can be motivated either by universal interests or purely selfish interests. Since there is a strong influence of saturn, cunningness and

manipulation can also be a motive behind the word.This is basically seen as the negative side of the nakshatra. People suffering from ill effects , resulting from afflictions to this nakshatra should devotedly worship Vishnu, the preserver and maintainer of all creation. Worship of any form of Vishnu's incarnations can be done through use of mantra and meditation. Persons benefiting from the positive energy of this nakshatra can also increase its good effects through shree Rama japas or reciting sahasranamastothrams.
