Clinical Techniques CoursesSaturday (continued) Sunday

Practical Applications: Caring for the Critical Care Patient Conducted by David Liss, RVT, VTS (ECC, SAIM)

Veterinary technicians are on the forefront of patient care and often serve as the voice of the patient. Caring for critical care patients goes beyond obtaining TPRs; these patients need intense and often constant advanced monitoring, re-evaluation, and treatment. In this course, technicians will hone their patient assessment and critical thinking skills through case-based scenarios that focus on different stages of various life-threatening medical conditions. Participants can practice advanced critical care techniques such as central line placement, central venous pressure monitoring, airway access, Foley catheter placement, and nasogastric feeding tube placement.

Surgical Solutions: Minimally Invasive Fracture Repair – External Skeletal Fixation (Linear Systems) Conducted by Dr. Steven Martinez

External skeletal fixators (ESFs) provide the benefits of minimally invasive surgery that may include shorter operating time, minimal morbidity, earlier recovery, more rapid bone healing, and fewer complications for long bone fracture repair. Attend this one-day course to expand your treatment options by learning this technically less demanding procedure. In the morning, you will review pertinent anatomy and learn about external fixation principles and techniques. In the afternoon, under the guidance of an expert, you will put those principles into practice by creating ESF models of select linear configurations and then applying them to Sawbone models of fractures.
