Share your activities at SC17 with us @JuniperNetworks with the tag #SC17. At a Glance: Juniper @ Supercomputing17 NOVEMBER 13-16, COLORADO CONVENTION CENTER, DENVER SCinet brings to life a very high capacity network to support the revolutionary applications and experiments that are the hallmark of the SC conference. Built entirely by volunteers, the network links the convention center to research and commercial networks around the world. It also serves as a platform for exhibitors to demonstrate the advanced computing resources of their home institutions. Juniper is pleased to play a role in SCinet by providing design, installation, and operations expertise as well as routers, switches, rewalls and optical equipment. Core Network: The Juniper Networks® MX2008 3D Universal Edge Router, a space-optimized, high-capacity router, serves as a key component of the core of SCinet. The Juniper Networks MX960 3D Universal Edge Router, a high-performance, high-density router, is at the heart of the conference network. Optical Platform: The Juniper Networks BTI7801 Packet Optical Transport System provides large-scale wavelength capabilities for the optical network distributed NOC interconnect. Edge: The Juniper Networks QFX5100/QFX5110 switches in a Virtual Chassis conguration support 1G/10G connections to the show oor. In addition, these switches will support an EVPN/VxLAN demonstration that will be leveraged for use in future iterations of SCinet. Security: The Juniper Networks SRX5400 Series Services Gateway secures the conference, providing Application identication and rewall services to the show oor, wireless networks and Student Cluster Challenge. Student Cluster Competition Sixteen teams of students demonstrate their HPC skills as they assemble a small cluster on the exhibit oor and race to complete a real-world workload across a series of applications. It’s an exciting 48-hour challenge for undergraduate and high school students and Juniper is proud to provide SRX Series rewalls that secure network trac for the teams. Women in IT Networking at SC (WINS) Luncheon Six exceptional women working in IT departments at U.S. research institutions were chosen for participation in WINS to help build and operate SCinet. Juniper is proud to be a WINS luncheon sponsor. COMMUNITY SPIRIT See Juniper Networks solutions in action at SC17, as the international community showcases its work in high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis. Juniper solutions are an essential part of SCinet and many demos. We’re proud to host fun community activities! Alien Waves Reduce Costs and Simplify Operations The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) has a 100GbE connection between the show oor and its Wyoming Supercomputing Center. With the use of tunable coherent optics on the MX2008 in the core and on the QFX10008 at its supercomputing center, NCAR will demonstrate the rst alien wave in production at Supercomputing. Integrated Performance Monitoring Juniper is working with SCinet and the PerfSonar community to demonstrate a PerfSonar implementation on a virtual machine running on the core MX2008 router. Securing Big Data Flows The Pacic Research Platform and Juniper collaborate to demonstrate how to secure big data ows (elephant ows) without impacting throughput. Elephant ows can take the Express Path, an ASIC-based path through the SRX gateway, which implements full stateful rewall services at line speed. While mice ows—email, chat, video, voice, and other smaller ows—go through a CPU-based path to take advantage of content and application security services. Enhanced Application Tracking and Monitoring In addition to custom toolsets used by SCinet, Juniper Networks AppSecure running on the SRX 5000 Series platform provides enhanced visibility, enforcement and control of application layer network trac. In addition, Internet2 and Japan’s National Institute of Communications and Technology (NICT) are using equipment provided by Juniper in their demos. DEMOS JUNIPER AT WORK SCINET FASTEST, MOST POWERFUL NETWORK IN THE WORLD Juniper Engineers will be on hand to meet with and provide NOC tours to Juniper customers. At a Glance: Juniper @ Supercomputing17NOVEMBER 13-16, COLORADO CONVENTION CENTER, DENVER

SCinet brings to life a very high capacity network to support the revolutionary applications and experiments that are the hallmark of the SC conference. Built entirely by volunteers, the network links the convention center to research and commercial networks around the world. It also serves as a platform for exhibitors to demonstrate the advanced computing resources of their home institutions.

Juniper is pleased to play a role in SCinet by providing design, installation, and operations expertise as well as routers, switches, firewalls and optical equipment.

Edge: The Juniper Networks QFX5100/QFX5110 switches in a Virtual Chassis configuration support 1G/10G connections to the show floor. In addition, these switches will support an EVPN/VxLAN demonstration that will be leveraged for use in future iterations of SCinet.

Security: The Juniper Networks SRX5400 Series Services Gateway secures the conference, providing Application identification and firewall services to the show floor, wireless networks and Student Cluster Challenge.

Student Cluster CompetitionSixteen teams of students demonstrate their HPC skills as they assemble a small cluster on the exhibit floor and race to complete a real-world workload across a series of applications. It’s an exciting 48-hour challenge for undergraduate and high school students and Juniper is proud to provide SRX Series firewalls that secure network traffic for the teams.

Women in IT Networking at SC (WINS) LuncheonSix exceptional women working in IT departments at U.S. research institutions were chosen for participation in WINS to help build and operate SCinet. Juniper is proud to be a WINS luncheon sponsor.

COMMUNITY SPIRIT

See Juniper Networks solutions in action at SC17,

as the international community showcases its work in

high performance computing, networking, storage and analysis.

Juniper solutions are an essential part of SCinet and many demos.

We’re proud to host fun community activities!

Alien Waves Reduce Costs and Simplify OperationsThe National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) has a 100GbE connection between the show floor and its Wyoming Supercomputing Center. With the use of tunable coherent optics on the MX2008 in the core and on the QFX10008 at its supercomputing center, NCAR will demonstrate the first alien wave in production at Supercomputing.

Integrated Performance MonitoringJuniper is working with SCinet and the PerfSonar community to demonstrate a PerfSonar implementation on a virtual machine running on the core MX2008 router.

Securing Big Data FlowsThe Pacific Research Platform and Juniper collaborate to demonstrate how to secure big data flows (elephant flows) without impacting throughput. Elephant flows can take the Express Path, an ASIC-based path through the SRX gateway, which implements full stateful firewall services at line speed. While mice flows—email, chat, video, voice, and other smaller flows—go through a CPU-based path to take advantage of content and application security services.

Enhanced Application Tracking and MonitoringIn addition to custom toolsets used by SCinet, Juniper Networks AppSecure running on the SRX 5000 Series platform provides enhanced visibility, enforcement and control of application layer network traffic.

In addition, Internet2 and Japan’s National Institute of Communications and Technology (NICT) are using equipment provided by Juniper in their demos.
