BENEDICTION POSTLUDE “How Majestic is Your Name” Sandi Patty LUKE 4:17-30 (NIV)
“The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him. Unrolling it, he found the place where it is written: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.’ Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fastened on him. He began by saying to them, ‘Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.’ All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. ‘Isn’t this Joseph’s son?’ they asked. Jesus said to them, ‘Surely you will quote this proverb to me: “Physician, heal yourself!” And you will tell me, ‘Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.’ ‘Truly I tell you,’ he continued, ‘no prophet is accepted in his hometown. I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah’s time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land. Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon. And there were many in Israel with leprosy in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed—only Naaman the Syrian.’ All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this. They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him off the cliff. But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.”

L: As an expression of God’s grace, God loves each one of us the same; each one of us is favored, but none above another. P: Let us rejoice that God loves us and celebrate that goodness expressed to all in Jesus Christ. HYMN “Here I Am, Lord” No. 589 CONFESSION OF THE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Prayer of Confession: (In Unison)
God of all creation, we humbly bow before you today to give you thanks for your inexpressible love given to all people. We pray that you will help us to recognize that your love is equally expressed to everyone, even those with whom we may struggle. Remind us that our enemies are not your enemies and that you desire to bless those we may curse. In this, may we strive to move closer to loving others as you love us.

Announcements for January 31, 2016
MUSIC BY LEE MONTANUS
Lee Ames Montanus, 1931-2006, is the brother of church member Mark Montanus. Lee was born into the family of Reverend Hugo Montanus and his wife Genevieve in Winter, Wisconsin. He started his music in the first grade and flourished to a professional level quickly. He served our country during the Korean War, then went on to graduate from college with a music degree. His studies continued at the Eastman School of Music majoring in piano and composition. As a musician, Lee played with the Honolulu Symphony and later played a tour with the Wayne King orchestra. Lee decided on teaching and became a life-long music teacher but was also deeply involved with the ministry of Christian music. During that time he wrote contemporary Christian choral and instrumental music. We are delighted to celebrate his music in honor of Mark and Charlotte Montanus.
CONFIRMATION
Confirmation is the process where youth in 8th grade (13 years) or older learn about the Christian faith and make an intentional commitment to give their lives to the Lord. Following confirmation, youth are received into membership into the church. Confirmation will also include baptism for those who have not previously been baptized. An orientation meeting for both youth and parents will be held on Tuesday, February 2, at 6:00 p.m. in Fireside Room North. Confirmation classes will meet on Tuesdays, February 2, 9, 16, 23, March 1, and March 15, from 6:00-7:00 p.m. The confirmation ceremony will occur on Palm Sunday, March 20, during the 9:15 service. You may register in Souers Hall between services. If you have questions or you would like more information, please contact the church office or Pastor Kerri.

The others are open to students from the Agua Fria High School district who have at least a 3.0 grade point average and have been active in service to their community. Applications are available in the church office or at any of the Agua Fria High School District Career Centers. If you have any questions, e-mail Nancy Oreshack at [email protected].
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR WELCOME BOOTH
The Welcome Booth in the breezeway outside Souers Hall needs volunteers to help greet new people who come to our church for the first time and to say hello to our existing people as they come from their services to go for coffee and socializing in Souers Hall. No experience is necessary. All you need to do is smile and say “Welcome to our church.” Volunteers help at the booth from 8:40 to 9:10 a.m. and then again from 10:15 to 10:40 a.m. This is an excellent way to meet new people and make many acquaintances. It is a perfect volunteer opportunity for couples, as well as for singles. If you would like to help, please sign up on the Welcome Booth sign-up sheet in Souers Hall or contact Nana Hamlin at [email protected] or call the church office at (623) 935-3411.
