At the Kamloops YMCA-YWCA, we believe in potential. We believe that reaching our potential doesn’t happen by accident. It starts with building a community of fit, connected, and supported children, youth, individuals and families. In 2017 we empowered over 22,000 people to transform their lives, get involved and achieve their goals through a variety of programs and course offerings. We also believe that healthy kids are the foundation, and the future, for building a healthy community. In 2017 we helped more than 11,000 children grow their confidence and strength by encouraging meaningful engagement with their family, friends and peers, through Y programs such as The Interactive Early Learning Centre, Y Youth Basketball, and YMCA Camp programs. We believe every woman and child deserves a chance for safety, possibility and hope of a life free of violence. In 2017 our Violence Against Women Intervention and Support Services offered support to 124 women and their children through the Y Women’s Emergency Shelter, and the shelter beds were slept in 3,813 times. The Kamloops Y is dedicated to helping all people reach their full potential, not as an abstract ideal but as a practice brought to life every single day by an active, supportive community of volunteers, members, staff and participants.
