THE NEW SUNDAY SCHOOLLEARNING GROUPS Over the past several months a question has been asked that deserves an answer. “Why have we replaced the term “Sunday School” with the term Learning Groups?” The short answer is that significant changes have been made in the way we do Christian Education at CBC. The new name reflects the fact that Learning Groups are different than our traditional “Sunday School” in several ways.

BELONG activities now play an important role in every Learning Group. The use of name tags, getting to know one another activities and group discussion help our CBC family to become more closely connected. Of course, Bible Study is always the central focus of Learning Groups.

CBC offers two Life Solutions Events each Sunday morning. They are the larger, open enrollment groups that, as a rule, meet in the Fellowship Hall at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. There are also several Life Changers Events meeting at 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. in other parts of the building. In 2012 more attention will be given to Life Labs (groups meeting outside of Sunday morning and focusing more on Grow (learning) activities and

to Life Groups (also meeting outside of Sunday mornings but focusing more on Belong (getting acquainted) activities. Learning Groups also incorporate a variety of teaching methods so you can choose the one that is right for you.

LIFE LAB HOSTS BELONG EVENTOn December 13, 2011 the Tuesday Morning Men’s Bible Study hosted a free breakfast for the men who attend the Bible Study. Dave Jensen, a CBC Elder and the Host of this Life Lab Group organized the breakfast event that consisted of bacon, sausage, pancakes, eggs, fruit, OJ, coffee and coffee cake. Several of the regular attendees came an hour early to prepare the food and have it ready for the 6:30 a.m. meeting. Each regular attendee was encouraged to invite a guest to the event. 28 men enjoyed breakfast together that morning followed by teaching from the 8th chapter of John’s Gospel by Phil Green. The Tuesday Morning Men’s Life Lab meets every Tuesday morning from 6:30-7:30 a.m. for fellowship and Bible Study. No need to sign up just show up.

GOOD SHEPHERD SING-A-LONG Good Shepherd Sing-a-Long every 2nd Sunday of the month 2:30pm in "The Unit" Cafeteria (Alzheimer's Unit - north entrance) Partnering with Desert Ministries, we join together by picking a little guitar and combining voices to make some "joyful noise" with the residents at Good Shepherd. Since half of nursing home residents never get visitors, we come in to make new friends and spread God's love in a sometimes lonely place. Contact: Patty Martin (402.533.8700).

Beginning in the middle of January, Stephen Ministers will be available to the members and attenders of Country Bible Church. In the course of life, people face uncertainties and tragedies that may be difficult to overcome without additional help and encouragement. Stephen Ministers are not professionals but are lay people who have received fifty hours of training in order to come alongside those, one on one, who are experiencing difficult, life changing events in their lives.

Nearly everyone faces periods of crisis, transition, or difficulty in life. During these times people can receive great benefit from a Christian caring relationship with someone who will faithfully listen, empathize, pray with and for them, and encourage them with Christ’s love and care.

If you are experiencing a crisis situation in your life or know of someone who is and feel that a Christian lay person could come along side to encourage and help, please contact Teri or Glen at the church office. Someone from the Stephen Ministry will contact you.

GriefShare, a Christian Ministry to help bring healing and hope from the pain of bereavement. Beginning Thursdays, January 12 from 6:30 - 8:30pm for 13 consecutive weeks will meet in Lower Level Classroom #2. During this time there will be a 30-40 minute video featuring a Christian grief recovery expert, group discussion and reflections on Bible verses. Dear Family and Friends,

“Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Matt. 1:23

Once again our hearts and minds are focused in love and thankfulness upon God’s greatest Gift to mankind, His very own Son, Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. The good news that God loved us enough to sacrifice His beloved Son for us is being carried to the ends of the earth to those who still have not heard it. The Wana people of Indonesia have had that good news for many years and now they are also taking it to other people groups. It is such a blessing for us to see our Wana “children” now going out in obedience to our Lord’s command to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every person.

We appreciate each one of you who have had a part in the Wana ministry by prayer, financial support, or encouraging words. It takes a team to do this job, and the team is not only those who are on the front line. There is a whole support network that makes it possible and we are thankful for each one in our support network.

Our next trip to Indonesia will be in the spring of 2012 and this time I am hoping to go with Steve. This depends on my finishing the rough draft of Genesis (8 chapters left to do). Please be praying that I’ll be able to finish in time and that God will work out all of the other details for the trip as well (visas, tickets, flight arrangements once we are in the country, etc.). I’m so looking forward to seeing our friends over there again!

Please keep our kids and grandkids in your prayers. Shane, Libby and their four kids are still in Nebraska. They have started a window cleaning business while they wait on the Lord for direction as

far as their ministry with the Quechua people in Peru goes.

Jason and Shelly (Estelle), and their three are planning to return full time to Peru this coming summer. Jason still has some head pain, but feels more than ready to get back down there. Their 8 year old, Cora, has been having some health concerns, so please pray that they will be able to get to the bottom of that soon.

Jeff and Stacy (Hunt), and their two will be returning from Paraguay next spring for six months of home assignment. We look forward to being able to spend some time with them while they are home.

We are so thankful that my brother, Paul Humphreys, seems to be doing very well after all his cancer treatments. Thank you for your prayers for him and for all of the prayer requests above. We love you and are blessed to have you in our life. May God bless you in a special way this Christmas.

We are thankful to the Lord for His blessings as we felt our time of teaching was very well received. Theteaching of Hebrews Chapters 7-10 in the five days at our first location seemed to scratch where it itchedso to speak. We spent about 5-6 hours a day in group teaching there. We spent more time on top of that inone-on-one teaching.After that, we flew up to the location where our houses are to finish out the two weeks we spent in Wanaland. We taught in the evenings on the gift of eternal life in Christ Jesus in order to strengthen the faith ofthe believers in the word of God. We had several people that thanked us for the teaching. During the daywe spent time checking the translation that Linda has done in the book of Genesis. Ed asked questions tocheck out how it is communicating to them and I spent time in recording the translation for Linda tocompare with what she has done.The gospel of Christ is spreading among the people as more are asking for teaching. The believers areresponding to these requests by going to live with these different groups of people. It is exciting to seehow God is working and filling the need of people wanting to hear the gospel. Thank you all for your support, both by prayer and by finances. Several hundred student leaders from SV campuses across the nation

gathered in Houston, Texas, on Oct. 8 & 9 for “It’s Time!”. Our group from

NE/IA drove through the night to be part of this fast-paced, life-changing

prayer experience, inspiring students to believe God for great things.

Students Josh and Ali from Fort Calhoun High came back and started

leading their lunch tables in prayer. At Josh’s table, they stand around the

table holding hands and pray out loud. At Ali’s table they sing a praise

chorus together. Josh, a football player, says he has noticed a different

spirit at the school since all the prayers we prayed for it at the conference.

There is more of an openness to talking about Christ. Josh hopes to get a

small group study going with other guys on his football team.

Thank you for your prayers for my ministry trip to Las Cruces, New Mexico.! The dates I was in ministry there was November 14-19.

God opened the door for that ministry 15 years ago and I was their speaker for the 15 year Celebration Event on November 18th.! David Beam and Bill Stickles are the chaplains and they are leading many to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.!

I also did a couple services with the chaplains that week at the Dona Ana County Jail.! They had me set up for an opportunity to share the gospel at the jail.! !There were nine decisions for Christ in those two meetings.! For this we do rejoice in those decisions and for the many others that were given hope!

Please pray for a man I met that week in Las Cruces.! Sam is Jewish and has a stepson who is in jail in Albuquerque.! I invited Sam to the 15 year Anniversary event and his life has been stirred about the things of God and things concerning Jesus Christ.! Sam heard testimonies of changed lives at Calvary Baptist Church that night.! He wants me to make further contact with him and this I will do.! I found out that his stepson has been involved in Bible study while in jail.! I know God is working here and I appreciate your prayers for this ministry.

HARTFORDS VACATION IN BRANSONThe following is a couple of paragraphs from a three page letter from Denny and Claire Hartford the directors of Vital Signs Ministries in Omaha NE. This portion of the story begins with the evening they arrived in Branson MO for a working vacation. It was super dark outside and the stars were showing in all their brilliance. We were eager to see if the view from our third floor balcony was going to be as pretty as promoted. It was an anxiety that must have permeated my subconscious for I awoke before the dawn and went out on the balcony to wait.It was everything we had hoped. And more, The luscious autumn colors were almost overwhelming, filling the hills and valleys of the Ozarks and complementing the cliffs, the shoreline and the placid waters of Table Rock Lake. We couldn't have found a more beautiful, more serene place to spend a vacation. With the dawn underway and Claire still asleep, I slipped down to the rocks along the lakeside to spend what would be the first of several exhilarating prayer sessions. Another particularly intense time with God was spent there a couple of days later when Claire and I stayed through the sunset, through the dusk and into the mysterious darkness of night. We were able to find the condo only by starlight. It was an unforgettable time.

THANKSGIVING SHOP & DROP EVENTThis years Thanksgiving Shop & Drop was great. We had 21 families deliver 21 turkey dinner food baskets. We were also able to contribute $761.00 to the food pantry at Joseph's Coat with the left over donations. In addition, CBC also contributed 80 pounds of cooked turkey, pies and other items for the Thanksgiving Day meal that was served at St Francis Borgia Catholic Church. Several members of our CBC family also assisted in serving the meal on Thanksgiving Day as well as delivering meals to the homes of those unable to get to the Church. According to reports from Father Mario Rapose, 400 people including many volunteers were served. Thanks very much to all who contributed in one way or another to bless others on Thanksgiving day.

very exciting 2012 is ahead of us, a journey we get to go on

together. I don’t see it as just another year but another chance to build God’s Kingdom and win lives for Christ. When we were created in our mother’s womb we were woven with

unique spiritual gifts, abilities and passions. God has designed us to embrace these as individuals and as a church community.

I feel so blessed and encouraged to be able to use my gifts, abilities and

passions to serve the children in our Nursery and entire Children’s Ministry Department. It is so rewarding to see the sweet faces God has placed in our

care. These children could be anywhere but, they are here. Their

parents and grandparents could be anywhere but, they are here. How honoring that we, as one team, can build God’s Kingdom by winning lives for Christ. It’s not only the lives of the

babies and children but the lives of those who bring them.

This Ministry is one very close to God’s heart as he says: “Whoever

welcomes one of these children in my name, welcomes me.” He know’s the importance of children, our children. Thank you for being on our team so we can serve our children and those who

Hello, and Merry Christmas from Dallas, Texas! My name is Nick Bank, and I have had the privilege of preaching and teaching as a pastor at C.B.C. since 2007; this is my passion, and calling. In light of our senior pastor Dr. Charles E. Larsen anticipating his retirement after faithfully leading C.B.C. for over 20 years, I !was approached!in 2009 by Chuck and CBC!about transitioning into pastor Chuck’s role as senior pastor gradually by 2020. So here we are in Dallas in my second year of a four-year Masters in Theology, from Dallas Theological Seminary in preparation for this transition.

!!!!!!!!!!! This year has been an exciting and encouraging chapter in our time here in Texas, and God opened up some great blessings along the way.! We (my wife Kellie, and our three year old little girl Ahriana) were able to move onto the DTS campus this year, which put us all in a great environment, and made commuting to class a snap!

!!!!!!!!!!! I was recently hired as a docent for the Museum of Biblical Art here in Dallas where I lead tours of Biblically historic & contemporary themed art, archeological pieces, and significant historical Biblical literary works.! Recently I had the

privilege of co-leading a tour with Dr. Charles Ryrie which displayed his personal collection which includes: one of the most important and rare Bible collections in the world. The esteemed Bible scholar is the author of The Ryrie Study Bible, one of the best-selling study Bibles in America.!

The collection includes such masterpieces as a page from the Gutenberg Bible (1450s); the first edition of the King James Bible (1611); the Wycliffe New Testament (1430); the Genoa Psalter (1516) with its footnote about Christopher Columbus; Coverdales first edition (1535) the first printed English Bible; early Greek manuscripts of the New Testament; one of the worlds few copies of Tyndales Pentateuch (1530); and Erasmus New Testaments. Additional unique elements include Eliots Indian Bible (1663) in the Algonquin language the first Bible to be

printed in America-as well as a variety of Greek, Hebrew, Latin and other language Bibles.!!!!!!!!!!!!! Classes are going well, and I was recently accepted in the Philosophy track in the Th.M program.! This emphasis is designed to enhance ministry by focusing on developing and articulating a distinctively Christian philosophy. In so doing, it equips me to engage constructively the broader philosophical milieu in which I find myself, and to use biblical philosophical reflection to serve Christ and His church.

!! ! ! ! ! !All that to say it has been a very busy, but good Semester down in Texas. !I have just finished turning in all my papers and finals, and we are all excited to drive home to Nebraska to reconnect with the friends and family we miss to dearly, especially those of you at CBC! !Your prayers, and support have meant the world to us, and we could not do this without you all! !!We are looking forward to seeing, and worshiping with you all at CBC in the Christmas Services – Please be sure to say hello, we have missed you all greatly!
