Please keep in mind that we schedule volunteers a week in advance.
ReStore moved from The Plains to 309 W. Union Street in Ath-ens in March. When looking for a new location for the Re-Store it was important that it facilitate growth in both dona-tions and revenue, the new store is 7,800 sq. ft. and locat-ed close to central Athens. More people are visiting the new location; 300 people came through the doors open-ing weekend, totaling $5,400.00 in sales.
The success of the move and expansion could not have been possible without tremendous local support. Athens County Habitat received an $110,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) grant through the Ohio Development Services Agency in partnership with the Athens County Com-missioners, Century National Bank and Hocking, Athens , Perry Community Action. Habi-tat would also like to thank Don Linder and Larry Conrath Realty for their help in finding a new home for the ReStore.
Moving and expanding are hard work! Russell Chamber-lain was kind enough to let Habitat use his moving van to speed up the moving process. The ReStore staff had a lot of help from the two collegiate challenge groups that visited
from Providence College and the University of Virginia. “They were so happy to help, full of energy; a great group of young people,” Molly Blair re-flected on the two weeks that the students were in Athens. Our faithful crew of ReStore volunteers also helped get the new store ready for the grand re-opening, thank you to: Sam, Dave, Wanda, Janey, Carol, Ruth Ann, Charlene, Katherine, Carolyn and Helen.
When asked what is her favor-ite thing at the new ReStore? Molly responded, “Access, this location makes affordable building materials more ac-cessible to the residents of Athens.”
If you are interested in do-nating gently used building materials or furniture please call the ReStore at their new number (740) 589-5865. The

The third annual Taste of Athens took place at Hocking College’s Student Center on March 23, 2013. The event netted Habitat over $15,000.00. Thank you to all that attended, donated, spon-sored and volunteered. There were nine restau-rants competing for the bragging rights of top taste.
The nine competitors were: Casa Nueva, Fluff Bakery presenting Rick-shaw Thai, Kiser’s Barbe-que, Cutler’s Restaurant, Lui Lui’s, Sol, The Inn at Cedar Falls, Rocky Boot Grill, and the Athens Country Club.
All brought their top game and wowed the
crowd with amazing dishes from a duck breast flatbread to tofu albondigas. It was a foodies paradise.
As the tasting came to an end people voted for their favorite dishes. The winners were as follows:
First place with black-ened tilapia crostini served with a home-made black bean and corn salsa topped with a cilantro lime mayon-naise was Kiser’s Barbe-que,
Second place with herb dusted pork tenderloin with braised Brussels sprouts and carrot broth was Cutler’s Restaurant
Third place with Tam Som, a spicy green papaya salad with lime, hot chili, fish sauce, palm sugar; and Tom Kha Gai, a chicken, coconut milk soup with kaffir lime leaves, galangal, and lemon grass was Fluff’s Bakery introducing Rickshaw Thai.
