  • ATHLONE SCHOOL FOR THE BLINDThe first group of 7 learners included Isaac Jacobs (age 20)He trained in the academic section and qualified as a piano tuner, became house-master at the school; became vice chair at the SA Nat Council for the Blind

  • ATHLONE SCHOOL FOR THE BLINDIsaac Jacobs at the age of 80 was awarded posthumously the prestigious R W Bowen Meritorious Award for the Blind for his services to societySince 1927 there have been about 20 000 learners and it is anticipated that 50 000 learners will receive their education in the next few decades (now includes blind, visually handicapped, wheel-bound and multi-handicapped learners
