Gemma Hayes has long established herself as one of Irelands foremost musical talents. Known for her eclectic blend of folk, prog rock and electronica, her debut album, Night on My Side, received critical acclaim from all corners, garnering a prestigious UK Mercury Prize nomination and earning her an award as Irelands best female. Gemmas subsequent release, The Roads Dont Love You, earned her yet another nod as Irelands best female artist.

Her music appears in a variety of programmes and films including Greys Anatomy & Alias, One Tree Hill, The Vampire Diaries and the upcoming Abigail Breslin picture, Janie Jones.

Gemmas much anticipated fourth studio album, Let it Break, is a collaboration with producer David Odlum and features Paul Noonan of Bell X1 and Ann Scott.

  • For nearly any singer/songwriter, the idea of collaborating with Mark Knopfler would be the stuff of fantasy, but for Bap Kennedy, it was just the latest in a long line of projects, working with high profile, highly respected musical legends.

For a man who has worked with Steve Earle and Van Morrison, to name just two, an offer to record an album in the Dire Straits frontmans own studio was another musical milestone. The Sailors Revenge, Kennedys latest album which he wrote and Knopfler produced, features song-writing that grows stronger with every listen - assisted, of course, by Knopflers distinctive, delicious guitar and tasteful widescreen production.

Kennedys work has been used in a number of Hollywood soundtracks, including Serendipity and You Can Count On Me - which won two awards at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival and received two Oscar nominations.

    Tickets essential, available from Crusoes.

  • TONER SINGS PRINE

Its been many years since Anthony Toner (acclaimed for his songs Sailortown, The Duke of Oklahoma and Well Well Well) performed an evening of John Prine material. Hes one of the touchstones of contemporary songwriting, says Anthony, His work is warm, witty and human from start to finish. You never feel disconnected from the tremendous heart that beats in this material, and thats what always brings me back to him.

This will be an intimate, solo acoustic performance from one of the north coasts most talented songwriter/guitarists. Patrons are invited to bring their own bottles of wine, relax and enjoy songs like Hello in There, Sam Stone, and the inimitable Come Back to Us Barbara Lewis Hare Krishna Beauregard.

Tickets available from Flowerfield. (A second date for this popular event is set for later this month).

Date/ Time: Sun 11th Nov. 8.00pm (sold out extra night added Sun 18th Nov. 8.00pm)

  • THE ARD RI BAND Born from a love of breaking from the norm and following their hearts, Ard Ri are a voice for their generation. Banjos, guitars, drums, seats, legs and anything else at hand will feel their force, with a set of diverse and unique songs, delivering shows of unstoppable strength, while showing an unrivalled pride in their folk infused roots. Fresh, exciting and hitting their prime, this is a folk force to be reckoned with.

    www.amidships.net

    www.facebook.com/ArdRiBand

AMIDSHIPS Specialising in an infectious blend of atmospheric rock, Amidships have been compared to the likes of Grandaddy and Band of Horses, with members of the band having previously toured with artists such as Elbow and Snow Patrol. Over a bed of low rumbling bass, and slowly undulating guitars, lead singer JP McCorley lives through the characters he creates, colouring them like a master dramatist, making them real. This is certainly the start of something special. Steven Rainey, BBC Introducing.

  • BEN GLOVER Ben Glover hails from Glenarm, Co Antrim and splits his time between there and Nashville, Tennesse. The singer/songwriter has been compared to Ryan Adams, David Gray and Bruce Springsteen and called one of the finest writers in Ireland today. Ben brings the inspiration found frequenting the old homesteads and headstones of musical idols such as Johnny Cash and Hank Williams, to the Atlantic Sessions for only one, not to be missed, show.

BETTYLEE Leanne Doherty made her mark as a solo singer/ songwriter at the 2011 Atlantic Sessions as a hardworking rising star in the Northern Irish music scene. Leannes sound is an uplifting melodic acoustic fusion of folk, soul, funk, pop and rock n roll, that is easy to listen to and hard to forget.

  • CIARAN LAVERY Ciaran has graced our stage on more than one occasion as frontman for the lost & lamented Captain Kennedy, and each time has distinguished himself as an act to remember. Freshly returned from a UK tour alongside Aaron Shanley promoting his recently released EP, Ciaran has a voice that belies his years, with the character of someone twice his age that has lived twice as much. Poignant, soulful and not to be missed.

CONOR MCATEER Hailing from Derry City, Conor McAteers reputation as a songwriter is on the rise and, listening to tracks such as Things You Do for Love & Worms from his latest album, it is obvious why. As observant as a stand-up comedian and at times just as funny McAteers not afraid to speak his mind. His warm, inventive guitar-work and natural, engaging vocals, blend stiletto-sharp lyrics with varied and memorable tunes.

  • FARMER AND THE GUN The electric folk / blues / country tour-de-force that are Farmer & The Gun have been Atlantic Sessions stalwarts since 2010. Consisting of well known folkster Andrew Farmer on stirring Americana-infused vocals and acoustic, and Nathan McIntyre on electric, lap-steel, mandolin, banjo (and whatever else he can get his hands on), the boys stomping sessions never disappoint!

    www.facebook.com/pages/Farmer-and-The-Gun/127980303969460

    www.facebook.com/theemeraldaramda

THE EMERALD ARMADA The Emerald Armada was brought to life with the sole ambition of creating music from all of lifes little inspirations. Since 2010 they have foot stomped, knees upd and even occasionally crowd surfed around Ireland and Scotland. With a set that will hit you with an intricate wall of sound from the beginning, The Emerald Armada are a wonderful live musical experience, full of hook-line choruses, impressive soaring harmonies and cheeky banter!

  • THE FARRIERS With a unique fusion of rock, folk and country, The Farriers are possibly more American than Bruce Springsteen and more authentic than Mumford & Sons. Their blend of fiddle, pedal steel, acoustic and electric guitar, and subtle percussion, provides the ideal backdrop for the Appalachian harmonies to shine through. Rustic, but modern, this perfect fusion of roots music and contemporary songwriting is showcased on their recent album release Years Ago In Our Backyard.

FINNEGANS WAKE Mark Johnston is a multi-instrumentalist from Belfast, better known for playing in the Belfast based Blackthorn Folk Band. Manny Loughran, county champion accordian player from Carnlough, started his musical career in the Glens based band Bogcotton. Both now live in the tranquil location of Cushendun and make up the dynamic line-up that is Finnegans Wake.

  • KATIE & THE CARNIVAL Katie and the Carnival is the musical project of musician and actress Katie Richardson. Known for their energetic and engaging live performances, their music is soulful and harmony-driven with influences from folk, pop, jazz, rock and a little bit of dark cabaret! Following several TV, radio and festival appearances, the band joined forces with Foy Vance in The Ulster Hall last November, with Katie the sparkling front woman, armed with a ludicrously sultry voice!

    www.facebook.com/hunneysuckle

HUNNEYSUCKLE A collection of self made paupers, meeting in disguise at secret locations on the night of the full moon to dine out on the marrow of life. Serving up a main of Bluesy, Jazzy, acoustic electric Funk, with a side of Folk!

  • MALOJIAN Melodic and fresh, while hinting at sounds of a bygone era, Stevie Scullion (Malojian) counts Gary Lightbody amongst his growing list of fans. Malojians songs are dreamily intense, hewn from personal heartache and a sense of ravaged humanity, evoking memories of the greats, from Gram Parsons and The Band through to Whiskeytown and Iron & Wine. Malojian could teach the art of songwriting and its only a matter of time before the secret is out.

MASTER AND DOG Master and Dog return to the Atlantic Sessions hot on the heels of the release of their 2nd album. Well-known for their debut single Long May You Reign, which launched a series of NITB TV adverts, the foursome are influenced by a wide variety of genres. Dont miss their acoustic take on songs from an album that Hot Press has already lauded as possibly the Irish album of the year.

    www.facebook.com/pages/The-Murder-Balladeers/126592860730137

THE MURDER BALLADEERS Hailing from the Maiden City and hot off the release of their debut album, the Murder Balladeers are a festival favourite, bringing their foot-stomping brand of liquour-soaked, alt-country music back to the Atlantic Sessions this year to tell us why there Aint No Money In A Border Town! Be warned, this isnt your Garth Brooks or Robert Mizzle country, this is real country music with attitude!

PADDY NASH AND THE HAPPY ENCHILADAS With new album Times of Transition receiving great reviews and worldwide airplay, lamenting tales of the underdog is the best way to sum up the songs of Paddy Nash. Described by Hotpress Magazine as The Best Band in Ireland, their unique blend of Folk-Pop-Punk has left audiences revelling in their rich lyrics and big melodies long after the last note is played! Quirky, melodic and thought provoking.

  • RACHEL AUSTIN This Viriginia-born songstress makes her Atlantic Sessions debut this year. As 2012s Cathedral Quarter Arts Festival Artist in Residence, Rachel puts on a more incredible show with just two mics and a looping pedal, than most bands could do with a full orchestra and laser show. With influences like Tim Buckley and Regina Spektor, Rachels folk-infused indie sound (with a hint of grunged up jazz) is a perfect match for her onstage wit and charm.

RUAIRI AND THE OWLS Eager to showcase his original solo material, Limavady singer-songwriter and Furlo bassist, Ruair Connolly, enlisted local musicians Leanne Doherty (Bettylee) and Conor Crampsie (Exit Pursued By Bears) to form Ruair & the Owls. Since the release of their debut EP and the recent follow-up Fishing in Your Dark, this is a band which been hotly tipped by the BBC as an act to look out for in 2012.

  • SEVEN SUMMITS From their origins as a Belfast based band, Seven Summits have firmly established themselves as one of the most exciting bands in Northern Ireland. Their debut album received much acclaim, propelling them to the stage at Glastonbury in 2010.With shades of power pop bands like the Weezer and Grandaddy, their 2nd album Fossils captures that perfect mix of guitars, bass, drums and keyboards, with the emotive and moving lyrics of Rory Nellis.

    www.sevensummitsmusic.com

SILHOUETTE Silhouette is the perfect enigmatic alias of a wonderful musical project created by Shauna Tohill, whose main focus is to inspire, touch and mend the hearts of anyone who is drawn in to listen. Shaunas music breaks down the boundaries of traditional line-ups providing a raw, honest and truthful edge. With high profile gigs and guest vocalist spots already under her belt (including support for Snow Patrol), Shauna is also the voice behind the theme tune for the 2012 Our Time, Our Place NI Tourism TV advertisement.

  • SONS OF CALIBER Making a welcome return to the Atlantic Sessions stage, Sons of Caliber have evolved in shape and sound with the release of The Tundra, an EP considered by many to be the best of 2012. Sons of Caliber evoke a sound once narrated as an echo from times past, and a sensation from times present. Fresh from a UK tour supporting Gemma Hayes, this is a band not to be missed.

WOOKALILY Between hammerin out the harmonies, slammin on the geetars, slappin the bass, beatin the drums, pickin on the banjos and choppin on the fiddle, Wookalily create a unique and quirky sound thats all heart. Their style has an old-timey feel with a young-timey appeal. The Atlantic Sessions are proud to be added to the incredible list of festivals and venues that these ladies have brought their stompin brand of bluegrass to!
