To-day they were very lighe enompa-. tively, and it is reasonable to conclude that the presenre is passing off. True, there may be very little business paper maturing within the next sixty and ninety days, which may account for the de- cline in offerings.. On the street there have been some few transactions. The largest (through oen party) was $40,000 of Al factors' paper, maturing the coming fall, which means four and five monhe date, placed at 10 ;ct. per annum. Other trtm. actions have been made at 129015 ct., bat we do not learn of any negotiations less than '0 le, though there may be an occasional transaction be tween 9010 ect., but the igures eannot be called a quotation. The tonsorial gentlemen move on quietly ; t•a take all the paper they can get at from 1824 and 30 act. There is no press whatever among bor- rowers who have been in the practice of paying 18 vl24 and 30 mct. Mortgage securities range from '10 for first chop to 1290713 for good and second class. which are intrinsically as good as the first class. We learn that the money market in Mobile is tight : that the very best of securities cannot be placed better than l re' jlet. per. month. For a provincial market Mobilenmay e deemed a hard case. receiving cotton to the amount of eight hun- dred tlousand hales, say forty millions of dollars value, and money worth 5:; 'i centum per annum. What is the use of large crops if 3 Blt. per month is to be the winding up of a prolific season? Simi- lar remarks will weil apply to our locality, though money will not command 3 ~lct. per month in the open market. There is no manner nor way of ob- taining a monthly statement of the banks in Ala- bama. WVe muet take all on supposition. The banlis in Mobile, s, at is, the Southern Bank of Ala- bama and the Bank of Mlobile, are two of the veriest little banking monsters extant. The bank- ing statutes of Alabama are weak in every respect. A report is made yearly to the Legislature, but it is all Greek, unintelligible to the uninitlated. The commercial community of Mobile, we learn,'could get along with the very moderate sum of only five hundred thousand dollars, and yet the rates of in- terest have been ruling there this present week at the rate of 36 ?ct. per annum. Alabamians--like a good many Louisianians-are spending too much money for traveling and pleasuripg ; they will meet with the elephant. The Exchange market presented a firmer ap- pearance to-day. Though the counter rate at the banks for checks on New York was steady at ; prem., with three banks holding at 4 prem., the demand was very light. We think it is about time there should be a let up in exchange, as nearly all the indebtedness Northward should be canceled by this time, or so much as applies to last year's busi- ness. Some outside sales of sight were made at prem. Sixty days ranged from @t1 and 14@14 dis. Very little doing. Sterling, under a stiffness and advance in New York, has rallied, and sales were made to-day at 109•5•109lO , subject to brok- erage. The quotations must, however, embrace other figures, say from 10.} up to 110, while some drawers hold at a fraction over 110, subject to brokerage. The banks having very limited bal- ances to draw for, they do not care about drawing under 110). Francs without [email protected] includes all sorts of bills outside. Banks ask 5.08l. There is very little doing in stocks. We note a sale of 100 shares Merchants' Bank for paper, which the vendor figures out at par ; also 60 shares Crescent City Bank on P.T. a In bonds we note a further sale of $5000 OpelousaeRailroad Construc- tion Bonds at 80, making $10,000 sold during the week. Louisiana State Bonds were sold in New York last week at 01, which is equivalent to 9s, last month the dividend of 3 :ct. having been re- cei ed on the 1st inst. Bank shareg, railroad stocks, bonds of all kinds, and miscellaneous stocks in general, are as flat as pancakes. The only oflbr we heard to-day was t16i for (;as Light Company. There has been very little doing in uncurrent money or bank notes this week; so very moderate that it is unnecessary to publish our usual weekly table. The receipts of Mexican dollars for tihe week have been light. We note a decline in the New York market, yet 100t has been paid in this market this week. In American silver coin therb is no change to notice. The Mint in this city is almost idle, and will continue idle so long as tile present diflcrence in silver: that is, the $1 21` oz. rule and outside prices continue. If foreign silver and Mexican dollars, which form the largest share Sof the specie importations into this market, are to continue under the same demand, and even 10ti@ 10, rule for Mexican Eagle dollars, our Branch Mint will have something of a Flemish balance sheet to present to tile Treasury D)epartment at \VWasingtonl City. There are a great many no. counts of rich mines of gold and silver: in fact, some telegraphic accounts are made sic of nothilg else but new discoveries: but we do not learn that these " vast discoveries "'-rich alines, so called- are benelitting the country in the least. We look at these repo ted mninles s askin to a jack-o'-lunterrn. As for Arizonua land VWashoeo ilver mines, tile pleo lie rho are going crazed to reachl them, or have been for the past twelve oir eighteen mollnths, paIr- ticulaalyv those who emrigrate'll froiln tile \Western States, had better reCmained Wlre cthey were, and raiscd corn, pork and wheat, and set thmlll to the New Orleans mnarket for ale. \\e prefcer these articles-the very richest cproduction of tie eartl -rather than Caliorlnia gold, Arizelina or WVashoe silver, or the productions of that greatest of all de- lusions--Pike's Peask. There has been very little doing in land war- rants. Some forty or fifty have been sold. There will be n increased iqlloiry hereafter, thlt is, thile Bulls believe there will be. The Western money markets appear to be very easy at this time. the cal 4128 Lacroix, J . o I-#terday. To-day they were very lighe enompa-.tively, and it is reasonable to conclude that thepresenre is passing off. True, there may be verylittle business paper maturing within the next sixtyand ninety days, which may account for the de-cline in offerings.. On the street there have beensome few transactions. The largest (through oenparty) was $40,000 of Al factors' paper, maturingthe coming fall, which means four and five monhedate, placed at 10 ;ct. per annum. Other trtm.actions have been made at 129015 ct., bat we donot learn of any negotiations less than '0 le,though there may be an occasional transaction between 9010 ect., but the igures eannot be calleda quotation.

The tonsorial gentlemen move on quietly ; t•atake all the paper they can get at from 1824 and30 act. There is no press whatever among bor-rowers who have been in the practice of paying 18vl24 and 30 mct. Mortgage securities range from'10 for first chop to 1290713 for good and secondclass. which are intrinsically as good as the firstclass.

We learn that the money market in Mobile istight : that the very best of securities cannot beplaced better than l re' jlet. per. month. For aprovincial market Mobile nmay e deemed a hardcase. receiving cotton to the amount of eight hun-dred tlousand hales, say forty millions of dollarsvalue, and money worth 5:; 'i centum per annum. What is the use of large crops if 3 Blt. per monthis to be the winding up of a prolific season? Simi-lar remarks will weil apply to our locality, thoughmoney will not command 3 ~lct. per month in theopen market. There is no manner nor way of ob-taining a monthly statement of the banks in Ala-bama. WVe muet take all on supposition. Thebanlis in Mobile, s, at is, the Southern Bank of Ala-bama and the Bank of Mlobile, are two of theveriest little banking monsters extant. The bank-ing statutes of Alabama are weak in every respect.A report is made yearly to the Legislature, but itis all Greek, unintelligible to the uninitlated. Thecommercial community of Mobile, we learn,'couldget along with the very moderate sum of only fivehundred thousand dollars, and yet the rates of in-terest have been ruling there this present week atthe rate of 36 ?ct. per annum. Alabamians--likea good many Louisianians-are spending too muchmoney for traveling and pleasuripg ; they will meetwith the elephant.

The Exchange market presented a firmer ap-pearance to-day. Though the counter rate at thebanks for checks on New York was steady at ;prem., with three banks holding at 4 prem., thedemand was very light. We think it is about timethere should be a let up in exchange, as nearly allthe indebtedness Northward should be canceled bythis time, or so much as applies to last year's busi-ness. Some outside sales of sight were made at

prem. Sixty days ranged from @t1 and 14@14dis. Very little doing. Sterling, under a stiffnessand advance in New York, has rallied, and saleswere made to-day at 109•5•109lO , subject to brok-erage. The quotations must, however, embraceother figures, say from 10.} up to 110, while somedrawers hold at a fraction over 110, subject tobrokerage. The banks having very limited bal-ances to draw for, they do not care about drawingunder 110). Francs without [email protected] all sorts of bills outside. Banks ask 5.08l.

There is very little doing in stocks. We note asale of 100 shares Merchants' Bank for paper, which the vendor figures out at par ; also 60 sharesCrescent City Bank on P.T. a In bonds we note afurther sale of $5000 OpelousaeRailroad Construc-tion Bonds at 80, making $10,000 sold during theweek. Louisiana State Bonds were sold in NewYork last week at 01, which is equivalent to 9s,last month the dividend of 3 :ct. having been re-cei ed on the 1st inst. Bank shareg, railroadstocks, bonds of all kinds, and miscellaneousstocks in general, are as flat as pancakes. Theonly oflbr we heard to-day was t16i for (;as LightCompany.

There has been very little doing in uncurrentmoney or bank notes this week; so very moderatethat it is unnecessary to publish our usual weeklytable. The receipts of Mexican dollars for tiheweek have been light. We note a decline in theNew York market, yet 100t has been paid in thismarket this week. In American silver coin therbis no change to notice. The Mint in this city isalmost idle, and will continue idle so long as tilepresent diflcrence in silver: that is, the $1 21 ̀ oz.rule and outside prices continue. If foreign silverand Mexican dollars, which form the largest shareSof the specie importations into this market, are tocontinue under the same demand, and even 10ti@10, rule for Mexican Eagle dollars, our BranchMint will have something of a Flemish balancesheet to present to tile Treasury D)epartment at\VWasingtonl City. There are a great many no.counts of rich mines of gold and silver: in fact, some telegraphic accounts are made sic of nothilgelse but new discoveries: but we do not learn thatthese " vast discoveries "'-rich alines, so called-are benelitting the country in the least. We lookat these repo ted mninles s askin to a jack-o'-lunterrn.As for Arizonua land VWashoeo ilver mines, tile pleolie rho are going crazed to reachl them, or havebeen for the past twelve oir eighteen mollnths, paIr-ticulaalyv those who emrigrate'll froiln tile \WesternStates, had better reCmained Wlre cthey were, andraiscd corn, pork and wheat, and set thmlll to theNew Orleans mnarket for ale. \\e prefcer thesearticles-the very richest cproduction of tie eartl-rather than Caliorlnia gold, Arizelina or WVashoesilver, or the productions of that greatest of all de-lusions--Pike's Peask.

There has been very little doing in land war-rants. Some forty or fifty have been sold. Therewill be n increased iqlloiry hereafter, thlt is, thileBulls believe there will be.

The Western money markets appear to be veryeasy at this time.
