Time Depart at 9.00 am, Return to Palazzo Tornabuoni by 4.00pmWhere Castello di FonterutoliCost € 150,00 per person, including transportation, visit, wine tasting and lunchRSVP by September 25, minimum number of participants, 6 people

Castello di Fonterutoli has been the heart and soul of the Marchesi

Mazzei story and wine-production for nearly 600 years. Owned by

the family since 1435 the estate still retains its original form, that

of a tranquil country village, surrounded by 650 hectares of wood,

vineyards and olive groves. A cluster of houses, the church of San

Miniato and the villa, built at the end of the 1500s, tell the story of

a family deeply rooted in the Tuscan tradition.

Today, after almost six centuries the Marchesi Mazzei continue to

devote themselves to winemaking, with an uncompromising ap-

proach to excellence, an eye towards innovation and an abiding

respect for the land. The vineyards and state-of-the-art winery at

Castello di Fontertuoli represent one of the most acclaimed wine

families in Chianti Classico.

Castello di Fonterutoli is a unique place where past and present

unite and where guests rediscover themselves and the real Tu-

scany amidst an untouched and breathtaking landscape. The cen-

tury-old hamlet and wine estate of Castello di Fonterutoli provides

the ideal setting for visitors to enjoy Tuscany the way it was meant

to be experienced – surrounded by soft, green rolling hills and lush

vineyards, sipping elegant wines and indulging in fresh regional

cuisine.

Charles H. Cecil and Tuscany, A 40th Anniversary Exhibition

In the summer of 1974 the American painter Charles H. Cecil travelled to Tuscany to por-

tray the cliffs (le balze) of Volterra. The painting, his first in Italy, was later awarded the

Benjamin Altman Landscape Prize at the National Academy of Design in New York.

This exhibition celebrates the 40th anniversary of his sojourn in Tuscany and features re-

cent landscapes of the surroundings of Volterra and Bagnoregio, as well as earlier works

painted in Italy and France.

Time 6.30 pm Where Palazzo Tornabuoni, Sala delle Muse

wednesday, OCTOBER 15TH

An exclusive experience at the Giardino Torrigiani.

The day will begin with a Private Visit of the Giardini Torrigiani. The Torrigiani

garden with nearly seventeen acres hidden in the heart of Florence, is the lar-

gest privately owned garden in Europe situated within city boundaries. Renow-

ned in the sixteenth century as a botanical garden it had a revival in the early

nineteenth century when the Marquis Pietro Torrigiani inherited the property

and started acquiring the surrounding land. This he transformed into a ‘roman-

tic park’ in the english style, adhering to the fashion of the time, which covered

an area of 25 acres. The architect Luigi de Cambray Digny, who had recently re-

novated the Oricellari gardens to much acclaim was commissioned to re-desi-

gn the garden. This he accomplished cleverly combining natural elements with

artificially made landscaping and managing to include many symbols of an eso-

teric nature. Members are invited to explore these beautiful private gardens

guided by the Marchese Torrigiani Malaspina. You will then proceed to have a

private cooking class led by an expert Chef and then lunch will be served.

“When the World Answered: Women Artists for Florence after the 1966 Flood” takes a look at several women artists who answered Carlo

Ludovico Ragghianti’s, the then Mayor of Florence, cry for help to replace the art that had been damaged by the flood. It’s a book that

links past, present and future as several of the works that were donated at the time have, at last, found a home in the new Museo del

Novecento. The Advancing Women Artists Foundation, of which Jane Fortune is the founder and Linda Falcone is the director, sponsored

the restoration of these works.

The Quartetto di Cremona formed in 2000 at the Stauffer Academy

in Cremona and continued its studies at the Scuola di Musica di

Fiesole. Building upon early successes, it is now hailed as one of the

most exciting quartets of today and internationally renowned for its

“extremely mature and lyrical sound” (Strad).

The Quartet regularly graces the stages of the world’s most pre-

stigious venues and festivals, such as the Beethovenfest in Bonn,

BOZAR in Brussels, Wigmore Hall in London and the Perth Festival

in Australia. Here in Italy it has made its name performing at the

Accademia di S. Cecilia in Rome and at the most renowned music

societies in the country. The Quartet was nominated Artist in Resi-

dence at the Societa’ del Quartetto of Milan, and in 2013 and 2014

performed the complete cycle of Beethoven quartets as part of the

society’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

The musicians collaborate regularly with soloists such as Bruno

Giuranna, Angela Hewitt, Ivo Pogorelich, Lilya Zilberstein, Cédric

Tiberghien and Pieter Wispelwey. Their extensive repertoire ran-

ges from the early Haydn quartets to the present day, with parti-

cular interest in contemporary Italian music, and their recordings

of this extensive repertoire have received outstanding praise from

around the world. They are currently recording the complete Be-

ethoven String Quartets for Audite and the first volumes have al-

ready received many accolades: “The Quartetto di Cremona exude

phenomenal energy and momentum, making their interpretation of

Op.95 particularly compelling” (BBC Music Magazine).
