Dear Family and Friends

As you may have heard from your children we have been

busy at school raising awareness about bullying. Last week was

anti-bullying week across England and we focused on respect

for ourselves and each other. It is really important that every

single child and adult in our school feels safe and supported

and knows what to do and where to go for help. As a school

we are aware that anti-bullying is more than just a week and

we are passionate that this is a focus for our children throughout their time in

education; both at primary and secondary school. Going forwards we are focusing

on cyberbullying and will be providing workshops for parents and pupils to support

this important issue. Please look out for these in the New Year. As a school we feel

that any form of bullying can be dealt with quickly through immediate action;

therefore if you have any worries or concerns, or indeed questions, please speak to

your child’s teacher or make an appointment with the office.

We have had so much fun with our school topic this term- Heroes. We talked about who our hero is and also wrote lots of sentences to describe them. In Literacy we recently read supertato. We designed and made our own superheroes also evaluating and improving our models. In Maths we have being learning how to add and subtract one and two digit numbers by counting on and back using our knowledge of place value. This week In ICT we talked about road safety and also made posters using the computers.

This term Tubas and Trombones have been learning about Superheroes both fantasy and real life. The children have really enjoyed reading books by Mini Grey such as ‘Traction Man is here’ and ‘Traction Man and Turbo Dog’. In the first book Traction Man had an adventure in the sink and had to be rescued by his friend Scrubbing Brush. We acted out some of our own adventures before writing our own stories.

In the second book Scrubbing Brush is put in the bin, and we all had a great time thinking about what smelly things could be found in a bin and making up a poem about it. We even managed to sing our poems to each other!

The children investigated the properties of materials and we went on a materials hunt outside to find materials with different properties.

Following on from our science day last term, we carried out an experiment to find out which material would be the most waterproof for a superhero cape. Plastic was the winner!.

Remembrance Day was a historical event this year as it was the 100 year celebration of the end of World War 1. The children were very interested in events that were happening near them and produced some amazing pictures inspired by the event.

The evenings have got darker since the clocks have changed and we are all very aware of keeping safe on the roads. The children have been learning about road safety this week and are producing some amazing posters about it.

We are also very aware that teaching our children to be kind is very important and they have been thinking about different ways to show respect to each other as well as their families.

We are very excited to be rehearsing our Nativity ‘Children of the World’ and we have learned some new facts about how other children celebrate Christmas. We are looking forward to showing our production to you.

On Thursday 22nd November I had the pleasure of taking Sasha and Aiden from Flugel Horns to Leeds Castle to collect their class prize, (1 free entry to Wildwood) for winning the Reading Challenge. Well done to Flugel Horns class for FANTASTIC reading.

JUST A REMINDER: At this time of year the field tends to get quite wet and

muddy. Could Parent/Carers please ensure that your child is bringing appropriate

footwear with them to school and are not wearing their school footwear to

participate in PE. It is also getting cold so children need to be wearing jogging

bottoms or leggings for PE.
