AFTER YOUR TOUR... STAY & PLAY!Both The House on the Rock Inn and The House on the Rock Resort are located just a short drive from the Attraction and offer customizable Tour and Stay packages that include admission to the Attraction or golf along with an overnight stay.

In 1945 Alex Jordan climbed a rocky tower and his imagination took flight. That was only the beginning. In 1960, Alex opened his dream house built atop a chimney of rock to the public. Over the years, Alex expanded his vision beyond the House and collected and built on a massive scale. What began as a lofty retreat with an awe-inspiring view has become the spectacular attraction known worldwide as The House on the Rock. During the Regular Season (March 12 to November 15, 2020), the full complex (Sections 1, 2, and 3) is open. On your self-guided Ultimate Experience tour you will explore:

• The unique design of the Original House perched on a chimney of rock

• The Infinity Room extends 218 feet over the valley, soaring 156 feet above the forest floor

• The World’s Largest Carousel featuring 269 handcrafted animals, 20,000 lights and 182 chandeliers

• An enormous sea creature longer than the Statue of Liberty is tall

• A Japanese Garden including 14-foot quadruple waterfalls cascading into a garden pond

...and much more!

OTHER EXPERIENCES! THE DARK SIDE – a spooky night time Halloween event on Friday and Saturday nights in October.

CHRISTMAS AT THE HOUSE ON THE ROCK – From November 19, 2020 to January 3, 2021, Sections 1 and 2 of The House on the Rock are transformed with all the splendor and joy of the Christmas season and over 6,000 Santas deck the halls and adorn the walls.

A DREAM TURNED INTO AN EVER EVOLVING REALITYTHE HOUSE ON THE ROCK

ALEX HAD MISGIVINGS about losing the privacy he had worked so hard to get, but he finally acquiesced, and in 1960 The House on the Rock opened to the public. “Word got out that there was something to see out here, and people began coming around. They’d holler up, ‘Can we see your place!’ One day we were picnicking, and I said, ‘By golly, I’m going to charge 50 cents a piece!’ And you know they paid it gladly. The first day we opened we made $15.” That first year the Attraction grossed a total of $5,000. In 1961, income jumped to $34,000.

Alex Jordan used to explain his sprawling creation by saying that “one thing just sort of led to another.” Staying true to his feeling that “more is not enough,” once work on the Original House was completed, Alex turned his attention to creating an attraction with room after room filled with some of the world’s most unique, eclectic and whimsical collections. Never intending the House on the Rock to be a museum, the sights you see and the music

MUSIC MACHINE Tokens

you hear while strolling through the complex of buildings were all designed by Alex to

entertain, astound and amaze his guests. Through the years the experience known as The House on the Rock has evolved and expanded. A fanciful house was just the beginning for a

man whose imagination was unstoppable. One year before

his death Alex sold The House on the Rock to Art and Karen Donaldson.

Since 1989 the Donaldson family has maintained and further developed The House on the Rock. Today visitors explore a complex that features spectacular architecture, unique curiosities and world-famous collections.

Tokens are required to play the music and animation machines throughout the complex. Tokens are available (4/dollar) from token vending machines accepting $1 bills. These token dispensing machines are in: the Mill House, Heritage of the Sea, Music of Yesterday and by the Blue Danube music machine. Employees of the On-Site Retail Sales Team also carry tokens to sell. Tokens may be purchased with a credit card in the Welcome Center. Any remaining tokens may be redeemed toward a purchase in the House on the Rock Gift Shops. Please do not use other coins in our machines as the coins will jam the token box and prevent the machines from working.

The 2 lifts in Section 2 have a 750 pound weight restriction.

• The House on the Rock Attraction is a walking experience that encompasses many ramps, varied surfaces and outdoor areas. Some areas may present challenges to visitors with known heart or respiratory problems, poor circulation or difficulty walking long distances, going up and down hills and negotiating stairs.

• There are a variety of indoor and outdoor air and temperature conditions. This may impact guests sensitive to allergens, humidity and/or temperature fluctuations.

• Guests that are affected by claustrophobia and acrophobia may find a few areas difficult. Team Members are available to assist you with alternate routes.

• Strollers must be parked and left in the Hub and you must carry your child when visiting the Gate House and the Original House in Section 1.

THE DARK SIDE A SPOOKY AFTER HOURS EXPERIENCE!

Unsettling to some during the day, wait til you journey through The House on the Rock at night! “The Dark Side”

is a decidedly different experience at the Attraction. This is the time when we dim the lights and select areas of the Attraction become haunted. In true House on the Rock fashion, it’s anything but typical. You’ll encounter

creepy tableaus of terror from horrific clowns to zombie bridegrooms and a Haunted Doll Carousel.

Travel through the Devil’s Throat and wander through the fiendishly disorienting Dark Maze, escaping at last…only to be greeted by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!

2020 DARK SIDE DATES & HOURS:October 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30, 31 .................6:30 pm to 9:30 pm (Last admittance at 9:00 pm)

• Due to the dim and special effects lighting of The Dark Side Experience, the regular exhibits are

not clearly visible. If you wish to view the exhibits, we recommend planning another visit during one of the regular daytime experiences.

• The Dark Side may not be suitable for all ages. The Dark Side utilizes strobe light, fog

effects, uneven flooring/footing, tight spaces, dim lighting and performers who jump out unexpectedly. People who could be aggravated by these special effects should consider conditions before purchasing a ticket.
