SECTION A:ENROLMENT AND APPLICATION PROCEDURES

ACCEPTANCE PROCEDURESAcceptancedependsontheinformationwereceive,usuallycontained/attachedintheEnrolmentApplicationform.Welookatthefollowing:• TheSchoolreport,detailinggrades,workhabitsandbehaviour• ThelevelofEnglishproficiency• Thesubjectrequirementsofthestudentandtheirindicatedcareerpathways• Studentageandwhetherwehavevacanciesavailableattheyearlevelforwhichthestudentisapplying• WhatdatethestudentwishestocommencetheirstudiesatBaradeneCollege

AnOfferofPlaceandInvoiceforthefeespayablewillbemadetosuccessfulapplicationsandoncetheCollegereceivesfullpaymentaConfirmedOfferofPlaceletter(confirmingstartdateandaccommodationdetails)andreceiptwillbeissuedforStudentVisaapplicationpurposes.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS1. InternationalStudentsarerequiredtoentertheschoolatayearlevelsuitablefortheirlevelofproficiencyin

English,academiccompetence(evaluatedformreportsfromformerschools,ourowntestingandinterview,referencesfromtheircurrentschoolandanyotherrelevantinformationprovided)andage.

2. Toapply foraplaceasa full-timestudentatBaradeneCollegeof theSacredHeart, theapplication formcontainedintheProspectusmustbecompletedandsenttotheschoolofficetogetherwithallotherrequesteddocumentation e.g. school report, any student achievement certificates and photocopy of the student’spassport.

CONDITIONS OF ACCEPTANCEAllinternationalstudentsmustagreetofollowtheschoolrequirementsaboutlivingarrangementsforBaradenestudents:NOflattingorhostelliving,onlyapprovedhomestaysorotherlivingarrangementsagreedinwritingwiththePrincipal.

1. DesignatedhomestaycaregiversmustbepermanentlyresidentinNZandbe25yearsandover.

2. InternationalstudentswillparticipateinthegeneralschoolprogrammethatgivesBaradeneCollegeitsSpecialCharacter.

3. InternationalstudentsmustattendtheSchoolonalldaysthatitisopenfortuition.

4. TruancyandabsencefromclasswithoutpermissionareseriousoffencesandcomeunderBaradeneCollegeoftheSacredHeartAttendancePolicyandMinistryofEducationguidelineswillbefollowed.TheNewZealandImmigrationServicewillbenotifiedofanystudentwhoseenrolmentisterminated.

5. International students do not requirea designated guardian, however it isrecommended that they do have adesignatedguardianwhowillhavetheoverallresponsibility of the studentwhile attendingtheCollege.

6. International studentsmust have regard fortheConductrequiredassetoutintheStudentHandbook.

7. Acceptanceisconditionalontheschoolbeingable to provide a satisfactory course in thelight of the student’s language proficiency,academic ability and expectations, andcareerintentions.

8. Acceptanceisalsoconditionalupon: a) Thestudentprovidingsatisfactorycharacterreferences; b) Verificationthatthestudenthascurrentmedicaland; c) Travel insurance that is acceptable to the school (see

MedicalandTravelInsurancePolicy); d) VerificationofpaymentofFees; e) CompletionandsubmissionofTuitionAgreementandHealth

Profileform; f) Accommodation arrangements being approved by the

school; g) Availabilityofaplace.

9. Once accepted, students are required to advise the school ofany change in their contact details, residential address and/oraccommodationtype.

HEALTH AND TRAVEL INSURANCE REQUIREMENTSInternationalstudentsmusthaveappropriateandcurrentmedicaland travel insurancewhilestudying inNewZealand.1. StudentsmusthaveacomprehensiveMedicalandTravelInsurancePolicyforthedurationoftheirplanned

periodofstudy.Generally,studentsshouldhavecombinedtravelandmedicalinsuranceononepolicy,butseparatepoliciesarepermitted.

2. Policy requirements Wherethereisseparatetravelandmedicalinsurance,travelinsuranceshouldinclude: − Lossofbaggageandotherpersonaleffects − Accidentandinjury − Disruptiontotravelplans − Costofmedicalcareinany“stopover”countries

Combinedmedicalandtravelinsuranceshould: a) CommencewhenleavinghomefortheairportontheirwaytoNewZealand;applywhileintransit;apply

whilethestudentisinNewZealand;coverthestudentforanytripstoothercountriesduringtheperiodofstudyandanyholidaysbacktotheirhomecountryduringtheperiodofstudy.

b) Containhighsumsinsured(currentpoliciesrangefromNZ$600,000.00)to“unlimitedcover”.Inorderto“futureproof”policies,sumsinsuredofonemilliondollarsplusaresuggestedMedicalBenefitsshouldincludegeneralpractitionervisitsandprescriptions,majorhospitalisation(bothpublicandprivate),opticalcoverandemergencydentalcover.

c) Thepolicyshouldcover: Emergency evacuation/repatriation; Accompanying relative

cover;Personaleffects;Personalliabilitycover. d) Studentsare to supplyanEnglish translatedcopyof the

insurancepolicytotheschool.

3. Desirableadditionalpolicycomponents: − Lossoffeesduetoemergencies − Mentalillnesscover − Continuationoption − Refer back of Handbook for Baradene College Health

Policy.

4. In assessing the validity of insurance cover from providersoutsidetherecommendedinsurers,theschoolwillconsider:

a) whether the insurer is reputable and has establishedexperience in thetravel insurancebusiness,andanexcellentcreditrating.

b) Iftheinsurerisabletoprovideemergency24-hour,7daysaweekcover.

c) Ifstudentsareabletohavea‘certificateofcurrency’andpolicywordingstatingthatthestudenthaspurchasedthecoverforthedurationoftheplannedperiodofstudy.

SECTION B:HOMESTAY ACCOMMODATION REQUIREMENTS

ACCOMMODATION1. Allaccommodationforstudentsundertheageof18willbeinhomestay,designatedcaregiversorwithparents.

2. TheBaradeneCollegeHomestay co-ordinatorwill oversee and inspect all accommodation including thatarrangedbyAgent,parentsorguardian,inaccordancewiththeCodeofPracticerequirementstoensurethatthelivingconditionsofeachhomeareofahighstandardandthatthephysicalandemotionalsafetyofallstudentsisprotected.

3. The cost of homestay accommodation varies, approx $260-$270 per week and are paid directly to theHomestayfamily.HomestayplacementarrangedbytheCollegeis$200.

HOMESTAY TERMS & CONDITIONS The Homestay Family will:• Undertakeresponsibilityforthestudentthroughoutthe• schoolyear,includingweekendsandholidays.• Notleavethestudentaloneovernight.• Notallowthestudenttostayawayovernightunlesstherearespecialcircumstances,andthenonlywiththe

priorknowledgeandapprovalof thehomestayfamilyandschool. Suchapprovalmaybegivenonlyaftersatisfactorycommunicationwiththeadult(s)whowillberesponsibleforthestudentonthenightconcerned,andfulldetailsofaddressandcontactnamesandphonenumbersobtained.

• Provideabedroomequippedwithatableordeskandreadinglightforstudypurposes.• Providethreemealsaday(includingapackedlunchorequivalentduringtheschoolweek).• Contacttheschoolbefore8.30amifthestudentwillnotbeattendingbecauseofillness.• Notifytheschoolincasesofaccidentorseriousillness.• Facilitatethestudent’sattendanceatchurch.• Notpermitthestudenttodriveavehicleunderanycircumstances.• Giveatleastthreeweeks’noticeinwritingtoboththestudentandtheHomestayCoordinatorbeforeterminating

anyhomestayarrangement.

The Student will:• Arrangeregularpaymentofboardmoniesinadvance.Boardpaymentsareaprivatearrangementbetween

thestudentandhomestay.Werecommendautomaticpayments.Studentswillpayaretainingfeeifabsentforlongholidays(Christmas)tobenegotiatedaccordingly.

• Behavecourteouslytowardsthehomestayfamily,andrespecttheirrules,especiallyinregardtocurfews.• Ensurethehomestayfamilyalwaysknowwheresheis.• Returnhomepromptlyafterschool.Homeworkstudyshouldnormallybeundertakenathome.• Spendasignificantpartoftheweekendinthehomestay, inordertocomplywiththeschool’shomestudy

policy.• Noteverstayawayovernightunlesstherearespecialcircumstances,andthenonlywiththepriorknowledge

and approval of the homestay family and school. Such approval may be given only after satisfactorycommunicationwiththeadult(s)whowillberesponsibleforthestudentonthenightconcerned,andfulldetailsofaddressandcontactnamesandphonenumbersobtained.

• Provideherownpersonalsoap,toothpaste,shampooetc.• Notmakeinternationalorcellphonecallsonthehomestayfamily’sphonewithoutpriorarrangement. It is

recommendedthatthestudentuseacellphoneorarrangetohaveaseparatelandlineinstalled.• Giveatleastthreeweeks’noticeinwritingtoboththehomestayfamilyandtheHomestayCoordinatorbefore

terminatinganyhomestayarrangement.ThestudentMAYNOTmove toanyotherhomestay thathasnotbeenpre-approvedbytheHomestayCoordinator.

• Notdriveavehicleunderanycircumstances.

DESIGNATED CAREGIVERSStudentsmaylivewithaDesignatedCaregivernominatedbytheirparentseitherarelativeorclosefriend.• Parents (notagentsorguardians)willbe required tosignaDesignatedCaregiver Indemnityconfirming the

relationshipandtheiraccommodationapprovalwhichwillbecompliantwiththeCodeofPracticerequirementswhichincludesmonitoringforwhichtherewillbeachargeof$200.00peryear.

• DesignatedCaregiverswillsignanAgreementoutliningresponsibilitiesandexpectations.

STUDENTS LIVING WITH PARENT/SStudentsmaylivewithaparent/parents.ThelivingconditionswillbemonitoredundertheCodeofPractice.• ThehomemaybevisitedbytheHomestayCo-Ordinator.• Atnotime,includingovernight,mustthestudentbeleftunsupervised.• Theparenttakesfullresponsibilityforthepastoralcareofthestudentoutsideschoolhours.• TheparentmustsupplyacopyoftheirvisaindicatingImmigrationstatus.

HOMESTAY CO-ORDINATOR RESPONSIBILITIESTheHomestayCoordinatorwill:• Ensurethatthehomestaypremisesareofahighandappropriate

standardtogetherwithprovidingasafephysicalandemotionalenvironmentforthestudent.

• EnsurethatPolicevettinghasbeenundertakeninrespectofallmembersofthehomestayhouseovertheageof18.

• Visit the homestay twice yearly, and monitor the on-goinghomestayarrangements.

• Provide homestay caregivers with support, best practice andassistancewiththeirobligationsregardingthestudent,andliaisebetweenhomestay,student,parentsandschoolasrequired.

• Arrange and/or approve temporary homestay arrangements ifthehomestay family’s circumstances require them tobeawayovernightatanystageduringtheschoolyear.

• Hold all contact details for homestay families, parents andstudent.

TRANSPORT INFORMATION AND OPTIONSWhere possible, homestays will be sought in close proximity toschoolbusroutesorwithineasyaccesstotheCollege.

SECTION CCURRICULUM AND COLLEGE EXPECTATIONS

COURSES AND QUALIFICATIONS, Special Character1. Baradene College of the Sacred Heart delivers a curriculum that reflects the New Zealand Curriculum

Framework for theNationalCertificateofEducationalAchievement (NCEA), togetherwith the teachingofReligiousEducationasagreedintheIntegrationActandphilosophyofSacredHearteducation.

2. LearningAreaPathways forYears 7-13areoutlined in the yearlyCurriculumBooklet (seewebsitewww.baradene.school.nz)andoutlinesqualifications,subjectcontentandassessmentandentryrequirements.

3. ThesubjectsthatastudentstudieswillbeapprovedbytheDeanofInternationalstudents/YearLevelDean,factorswillinclude:

a)thelevelofEnglishlanguagethatthestudentpossesses b)evidenceofpriorlearningorequivalentstudy c)thecriteriasetbytheCollegeforcourseentry d)thelikelihoodofsuccessfuleducationaloutcomes

NCEA EXAMINATIONS All Senior International Students in Years 11, 12 and 13 will berequired tosit theNCEAexternalexaminationsat theendof theyear.• NCEA fees for International students can be found on the

website:www.nzqa.govt.nz/ncea

ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCIESOverseasstudentsareacceptedatBaradeneCollegeoftheSacredHeartonly if their levelofEnglishenables them tobe integratedintomainstreamclasseswithESOLassistance.Ifnot,thestudentsareadvised toattendaLanguageSchool for theamountof timenecessarytoimprovetheirEnglishtoanappropriatelevel.

StudentsaretestedonarrivalandinterviewedbytheESOLteacherand/or the Dean of International Students to determine theirproficiency in speaking and listening. The prospective student isinterviewedfromtheinformationontheapplicationformsupplyingpersonal information. The teacher asks questions about thestudent’sbackgroundwith regard to familyandschool life, recreational interests,academicexpectationsandcareerintentions.Fluency,grammar,vocabularyandunderstandingoflanguagestructuresareallnotedbytheteacher.

ATTENDANCE, WITHDRAWAL AND TERMINATION OF ENROLMENT

Attendance1. InternationalstudentsmustattendtheSchoolonalldaysthatitisopenfortuition.

Withdrawal1. Aminimumofoneterm’snoticemustbegiveninwritingtothePrincipaltowithdrawastudentfromtheschool.

Termination of Enrolment1. IntheeventofgrossmisconductorcontinualdisobediencetheschoolwillapplytheNewZealandMinistryof

EducationGuidelinesonStand-Downs,Suspensions,ExclusionsandExpulsionsunderSections13-18oftheEducationAct1989.

2. TheseguidelinesareavailableontheMinistryofEducationwebsiteathttp://www.minedu.govt.nz

REFUND CONDITIONSBaradene College Refund of fees Policy1. RefundsmaybegrantedatthediscretionoftheBoardofTrusteesinexceptionalcircumstances.

2. Aminimumofoneterm’snoticemustbegiveninwritingtothePrincipaltowithdrawastudentfromtheschool.

3. ApplicationsforrefundsoffeesmustbemadeinwritingbytheparentordesignatedguardiantotheBoardofTrusteesexplainingwhythestudenthaswithdrawnfromthecourseandthereasonsforseekingarefund.

4. Ifanapplicationforarefundoffeesismadebeforethestartoftheschoolyear(ie31stDecember)feeswillberefundedinfulllessacancellationfeeofNZ$500tocovercostsincurredbytheschool.

5. Ifanapplicationforarefundoffeesismadeafterthestartoftheschoolyear(ieafter31stDecember)theBoardmayrefundtothepersonwhopaidthefeesinrespectofthecoursetheamountitthinksappropriateless:

a. thecosttotheBoardofadministrativeandgeneralexpenses. b. coststotheschoolalreadyincurredfortuition. c. componentsofthefeealreadycommittedforthedurationofthecourse,includingappropriateproportions

ofsalariesofteachersandsupportstaff(ifapplicable). d. coststotheschoolalreadyincurredfortheuseoffacilitiesandresources. e. anyothercosts(includingtheGovernmentLevy)

6. Norefundwillbemade: a. whereastudentisexcluded/expelledfromtheschoolbytheBoardofTrustees. b. whereastudenthasbreachedthetermsoftheircontractwiththeschool. c. whereastudentbecomesapermanent residentduring their courseof study.Anystudentbecominga

permanentresidentwillberequiredtore-enrolasadomesticstudentatthestartofthenextschoolyearafterbecomingaresident.Noguaranteecanbegiventhataplacewillbeavailable.Preferencestudentswillbegivenpriority.

d. IfthestudentwishestotransfertoanotherschoolinNewZealand.

FEES PROTECTIONBaradeneCollegeFeeProtectionPolicy1. BaradeneCollegewillrefundfeesasnecessaryinaccordancewithitsRefundofFeesPolicy.

2. BaradeneCollegewill refund fees fromInternationalStudents if theCollege isunable tocontinue tooffertuition.

3. International Student fees will be guaranteed by Baradene College of the Sacred Heart and refunded ifnecessaryfromtermdepositsandtheschool’sincomestream.
