Audience Research

Are you male or female?

This was an important question to ask.The main reason to asking this was so,we can know who are main target audience is. From our results, our main audience was the female gender where we got more than 50%, where as the male gender only just got past 40%.

This can help us have an idea of the gender we have to appeal more to.

How old are you?

From our results, our respondents were mainly in the age range 17 at 49.12%. This gives us a visual on what certain things to include in our music video to appeal to this specific age group.

We don’t want to include things that won’t attract our audience.

How often do you purchase music after listening to it on music streaming websites?

This question was asked just to receive as basic understanding on how respondents consume music.

From the results, the majority (69.64%) selected that not at all often do they purchase music after listening to from streaming.

What type of music do you enjoy listening to?

We asked this to receive a basic idea of what genre was popular to our respondents. Unfortunately, Afrobeats wasn’t as favoured as we expected (15.52%).

However, we’ve made the decision to stick to this genre for many other reasons which can counter this, although this can be a risk because audiences may lack interest in the music video; just because of the genre.

How do you access music videos?

From our results, 93.10% of our respondents said that they access their music videos through YouTube, instead of all the other platforms.

We can take this into account on where we upload our music video, because we wouldn’t want to publish our music video on a platform where it lacks popularity.

How do you hear about new music videos?

Just like in the previous slide before, YouTube,Is the most popular platform for people to consume your music but also, to hear about music by 89.47%.

Getting our video noticed on YouTube can be one tactic, however, I think it would be easier to take the route of the option that was second popular which was friends (56.14%) which would be easier to take action into.

What video style do you prefer?

Another very important question. We asked this as we were struggling on placing focus on particular things for our music video. However, from our results, the option “Performance and narrative” received 42.86%.

We can take this into when planning and producing our actual music video. Overall, this would give us the ambition to place our priorities on both performance and narrative to produce a successful music video for our audience.

What things do you like in Afrobeats music videos?

This question allowed us to receive a visual on the main things we need to focus on for our music video. From the results we received, 59.26% of our respondents said that the main thing they liked about Afrobeats music videos is the choreography, as well as the up beat mood which was the second most popular option that respondents selected.

This gives us our main focus to appeal to our target audience & even a wider audience because, from this, people that do not favour Afrobeats as a genre still had their favourite things to say about the genre’s music video. This gives us a clear visual to help create our music video.

How easy is it to understand the lyrics and the mood of the song

"Romantic" though its music video (click like to see video)

From our results, 55.56% of our respondents said that they found it ‘okay’ understanding the lyrics and the mood of the song, which is good enough. Because, with visuals, they will then be allowed to create their own interpretations, which can allow a greater understanding of what’s going on.

However, we can take this into account and take into consideration that when are actors are lip syncing, that they really have to word things properly so, its easier to understand.

We want our main artist to perform to the camera in one particular spot.

We're having difficulties picking our scenario. Which scenario do you think

would be best for our music video? This question was asked because, us as a team seemed to always argue about the scenario to the point where we had no idea, so we thought it was a good idea to ask the public and see what they want and fulfil to that expectation.

From our results, the majority (38.18%) said that the best scenario for our music video is the skyline with the city in the background. From that, we’ve decided to choose this scenario as it was the most popular and it suits our music video.
