drawal is being posted.

Wait, I can

support St.

by…

YES! About a year ago, Amazon instituted a program of char-

itable giving called “Amazon Smile” which allows people who

shop at Amazon to designate one charity of their choice to

receive 0.5% of the total cost of everything purchased. We

recently were able to get our parish listed as one of the chari-

ties that is an option on Amazon Smile.

To participate (and I hope everyone does!), access Amazon by

using the URL smile.amazon.com (rather than the usual

www.amazon.com). The first time to access Amazon in this

way, it will ask you to sign in to your Amazon account and

then select your charity. They will have a few “suggested”

charities at the top of the page; ignore those and instead in the

charity search box below type “Saint Mary Parish

Corporation” and you should see us come up. Hit “select” and

from now on, every time you buy any Amazon items by using

the smile.amazon.com URL you will be helping to support

our parish!

Note that smile.amazon.com is not a separate website, it is

simply a way of accessing the full Amazon website and desig-

nating us as your charity of choice. Also, the prices are exact-

ly the sameAmazon does not bump up prices by 0.5% to

make up for the fact that much is being given to charity.

So if you are someone who shops on Amazon already, please

consider using Amazon Smile and listing us as your charity of

choice. And feel free to spread word to your family and

friends. Thank you!

Join the Dominican Laity in Prayer

Friday night prayer at 7pm is offer via Zoom by the Lay Fra-

ternity of Saint Dominic at St. Mary Parish. We pray "to im-

plore from Almighty God the end of the epidemic, relief for

those who are afflicted and eternal salvation for those whom

the Lord has called to Himself." (Decree of the Apostolic

Penitentiary on the Granting of Special Indulgences to the

Faithful in the Current Pandemic, 32020)

Please join our members for fellowship and in praying the

Rosary, Stations of the Cross, or Divine Mercy Chaplet.

Email [email protected] or call Tacy Woods (203) 710

St. Joseph Church is open daily for personal prayer be-

tween 9:00AM and 7:00PM on weekdays and will open

shortly before the first Mass and close shortly after the last

Mass on Saturdays and Sundays.

When at Church, please observe the new 'social distancing'

health rule by keeping at least 6’ apart from others in pews

or confession lines. Confessions and daily Mass are now

happening again according to our usual schedule which is

on the cover of the bulletin.

Our parish will be live streaming daily and Sunday Mass

seven days a week, at 12:00 noon via Facebook live. Please

go to https://www.facebook.com/stmarysCT/at noon each

day for Mass with one of the friars. You can also watch it

later. This is easy to do, you do not need to have a Face-

book account to view live stream or to view the video later

on.

Archived copies of the Masses are also available on

YouTube and you do not need to be YouTube subscriber to

access the St. Mary Parish YouTube Channel.

this COVID19 Crisis

Our Brother’s Keepers is a ministry that builds on

the care and compassion already in our parish to meet

our very challenging COVID19 times. We connect

with each other and with God in prayer during this

crisis. We support each other. Here’s how it works…

All who join “Our Brother’s Keepers” are willing to:

Contact a fellow parishioner by phone with a

friendly hello and wellness check.

Pray, if possible together on your call, for an

end to the pandemic, and for God’s strength

and perseverance in our world, country, and

parish.

Identify any ways that there is a need for as-

sistance. (eg. some groceries, a prescription,

etc.) & refer any needs to email

[email protected] or

contact Fr. Leo at the parish office

Strengthen ties between us at a time when un-

certainty and isolation abound, even when

there are no errands/urgent needs.

Who joins and how do I join????

Anyone can join. We will match you up with some-

one to contact. Or maybe you are already doing a

wellness check with another. Join as a pair. Think of

the prayer, care, and connection!

serving our New Haven community for decades. For anyone in need,

the pantry is open every Saturday from 10:00am to 11:00am at the

East Shore Senior Center, 411 Townsend Avenue. No personal identifi-

cation is required.

Thank you so much for the generous July donations!

Our next food collection weekend is August 29 & 30.

SANCTUARY LAMP

We burn the sanctuary lamp at St. Joseph this week for the

glory of God and for the repose of the souls of:

DECEASED DOMINICANS

In your charity, please remember them in your prayers. The

sanctuary lamp is a candle that burns in the sanctuary indi-

cating the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Those who

wish to have the candle burning for a specific intention can

contact the parish secretary for more information.

BIBLE STUDY IN EXILE

Join Fr. Leo on Tuesdays from 1 to 2pm via Facebook Live

as he continues our Parish Bible Study online. While Bible

study is a social engagement as much as a spiritual one,

we're hoping this can fill a need. The first session is already

on the parish Facebook and YouTube pages, as will all

studies henceforth. Those hearing it live are encouraged

and welcomed to type in questions as he goes, as we’ve

made him promise to try to field them on the fly! Whether

you can sit in every week, or stop in when you're able,

you're certainly welcome! We're just sorry that we can't

provide any coffee.

ST. MARY CHURCH UPDATES AND CHANCE FOR A

“SNEAK PEEK”

As we begin to hit the “dog days” of summer, I wanted to give another update on the status of

the repairs in St. Mary Church and also share about an exciting opportunity for a sneak peek at

the church that will be happening later on this week.

Over the last 46 weeks, the painting and decorative stenciling work in the church has been pro-

gressing very quickly. As work on the ceiling was finished, the very top parts of the scaffolding

began to be taken down. In the last two weeks, all of the work requiring scaffolding has fin-

ished and the scaffolding has been entirely deconstructed and removed from the church. This is

a huge milestone in this phase of the project, and one that is very exciting.

There continues to be a variety of tasks that need to be accomplished at “ground level,” which

means the church is not quite ready to be opened up for regular parish use. As I have learned

over the last yearandahalf, promising specific dates when the church will be reopened is a

dangerous business, as all it takes is one monkey wrench to throw things off… but barring any

unexpected, lastminute snafus, I believe St. Mary’s will be open for regular parish use by early

September.

In the meantime, there will be a wonderful opportunity during this upcoming week for anyone

who wishes to get a great “sneak peek” at the church. The 138

th

Supreme Convention of the

Knights of Columbus will be taking place as a virtual event, based here in New Haven. As part

of that, there will be two Masses celebrated in St. Mary’s this upcoming week. The first will be

Tuesday evening (August 4

th

) beginning at 6:00 PM. It is the opening Mass for the convention

and will be aired live on TV on the wonderful Catholic channel EWTN. I also believe it will be

available streaming on their website. The second Mass will be the following day, Wednesday at

2:00 PM, which will be the annual memorial Mass that is always celebrated as part of the con-

vention. While these Masses are not open to the public (please don’t try to “crash the party”),

by following along on EWTN I’m sure you’ll get a magnificent view of the church and plenty

of video closeups of the artwork and decoration. Following the Mass on Tuesday night will be

the annual report of the Supreme Knight, which I believe will also be carried live on EWTN.

I can’t wait to be able to resume our regular parish life in St. Mary Church. While we all wait

these last few weeks before we can do that, I hope this coming week’s television coverage will

provide a nice “preview of coming attractions” about what you can expect the next time you

walk into St. Mary Church. In the meantime, for those who are able to safely attend Mass, I

look forward to seeing you at St. Joseph’s soon!

God bless,
