Potentate From page 1states, over 85% are members and part of the World’s Greatest Philanthropy.

A big THANKS to all the Nobles and their ladies that made the trip to Pittsburg for the Shrine Bowl Parade and Football Game. Other than our host temple Mirza, Midian had the largest contingent of Nobles that participated. It was a hot day and a long drive and I and the Divan appreciate appreciate your efforts. And another big THANKS to the Nobles and especially to the ladies who worked and contributed food our hospitality booth.

It is with great reluctance and sadness that I have accepted the resignation of Norm Conley our Oriental Guide effec-tive August 31st. There are some serious health issues in his Lady Debbie’s family in North Dakota that have made this decision necessary. Our best wishes for you and Debbie in the future. You will be missed as there is no doubt that you and Debbie would have done an outstanding job and Potentate and first lady!!!

tifying them as such. If you spot anyone drinking that is underage, immediately escort them out of the building.

CSSA is less than four weeks away and as of this writing, there are still rooms available. We have over 150 Nobles plus their ladies that have paid their money to attend. The host temple, Bedouin, has promised a great CSSA, with most events being held at the Quiktrip Center. If you haven’t decided to attend, please consider attending and let’s have Midian be the Shrine Center with the most attendees.

Membership is still a concern and everyone needs to work on getting new members. The Grand Lodge is having a “Chance to Advance” class on Saturday August 9th. Midian will be holding a “Short Form” Shrine initiation following this class. If you know a Mason, who is not a Shriner, this is an opportune time to get him to join without spending a whole day. We need more of our Kansas masons to be Shriners. In Kansas, only 35% of Masons are Shriners, while in many Ed Day

The Dodge City Shrine Club July 9th meeting was held at Casey’s Cowtown Club in downtown Dodge City. Even with all the Nobles that are harvest-ing this time of the season, there was a very nice turn out. The Nobles and ladies who get together every month have a nice time sharing a meal together and keeping friendships and relationships within the group strong.

The 54th Annual Dodge City days with the theme, “saddle Up and Ride” will be held July 25-August 3rd. The Dodge City

Shrine Club will be helping out and participating in several of the

events. Our August meeting will be held on Wednesday the 13th at the Central Station Bar and Grill at 207 East Wyatt

Earp, with the social hour at 6:30 followed by dinner at 7 pm.

The 2015 Dodge City Shrine Circus will be held February 7th and 8th at the Dodge City Civic Center. There will be three performances on Saturday and Sunday.

Oriental Band “OUT OF TOWN”Reporter

The OB gathered at the home of Noble (asst. director) Doug Stubbs and Lady Heather for a party last month. It was a pretty good turnout from our group, but I just want to say if you weren’t there you missed some “top shelf” hospitality……thanks Doug & Heather.

This month is kinda special for this reporter as I will have been married to my favorite band-aid, Kande for 50 years. I’m still trying to figure out how she put up with me this long! I may have to buy her a new washer & dryer or something to celebrate!

Experienced OB musette player Noble Bill Argyle recently had a heart stent installed so he could keep on tootin the old horn. As of this writing he is recovering at home and is looking forward to all those rehab exercises!

Noble Director Mike Hartup and laddie Maggie attended imperial

in Minneapolis where Mike did his thing as “Ladder of Smiles” chairman for the Association of Shrine Oriental Bands of

North America! I’m sure it was all work and no play, but I have some pictures which might prove different!

Remember, the OB Fall Men’s Steak Feed is September 20th this year. See any bandsman for a ticket for food and fellow-ship…………….

The picture this month is proof that Midian’s Oriental Band is still attracting some of the top nobles and their ladies into our group. Remember we are still out there looking for a few good men!

Nomads TURTLE-AT-LARGEReporter

The Midian Nomads July camp out was filled with beautiful weather, a tasty breakfast and fantastic auction. Please keep the following in your prayers; Noble Roscoe Taylor has been batteling pneumonia, Noble Daryl James is having surgery to repair torn tendons in his hand and Lady Maxine Bible has had knee replacement . We wish all a speedy recovery. The Midian Nomads will

camp out at Lake Afton shelter #1 August 9th & 10th. The ladies

of Arami Court #101 will be serving breakfast on Saturday the 10th. The Midian Nomads camping unit is open to

all shrine families. We will be camping as a unit through October, please join us. If you have any questions please contact Noble Roscoe Taylor at (316) 841-4569. See ya at the lake!

Butler County ARV KRUMINSReporter

The July meeting at the Latham Saloon turned out good. The tour of the Latham Masonic Lodge was quite enjoyable along with the stories that Noble Don Nelson related about the work that has gone into making the Lodge what it is today. We even inducted Noble Don into our club as a member.

Hope you made it to the Shrine Bowl. This year BCSC provided $500 in sponsorship. Our own Noble Rocky McWilliams is President Kansas Shrine Bowl this year and is hoping to better last year’s results. Last year’s Shrine bowl brought in $86,000. Of that, $5,000 went to each of the five KS Temples and $61,000 to the Shriners’ Children’s Hospitals.

I don’t have a good status on our members that have been dealing with various challenges, except Kathy Rose is getting around a whole lot better once the doctors fixed the broken bone she had. Noble Jim Brewer and Lady Loriene are both sporting canes, but were able to make the last meeting with their usual upbeat good nature. Noble Raymond Anderson didn’t make the

July meeting, but he too had a trusty cane at the June event.

Speaking of events, we are planning to have a bit of an auction to go along with some good ‘ol El Dorado cooking by

Noble Richard Wentworth. The meal is smoked pork, beans, slaw, and tater salad. This will be our “Butler County Shriners Second Chance.” If you didn’t get what you wanted at the August Sportsman’s Event, we will provide some opportunity at our September meeting for a Setter 12 gauge shotgun, four 2015 WSU Men’s Basketball tickets, Butler County College 2014 home game football tickets, some gift certificates, homemade goodies, and some other neat items. Noble Bill Bailey has volunteered to be our auctioneer. That will be at 4pm Saturday September 6th at Deer Grove RV Park, east of El Dorado on Rt 254. Buy a ticket from any Butler County Shrine Club member.

As for the next meeting, it will be August 13th at the Real Deal Cafe inside the El Dorado Livestock Auction Barn at 6 pm. See you all there.

Greenwood County CARL “C.F.” COXReporter

Wow the summer is flying by… However, it has been a good year so far. We have had several parades with good turnout at all of them. By the time you are reading this, we will have served pancakes at the County Fair and getting ready to serve the beer garden at the PRCA Rodeo. We have been working on our routine for CSSA and it is coming together. At last count we are at 14 bikes going to Tulsa for CSSA. I’m sure it’s going to be another great adventure of fun and fellowship.

I hear we have a candidate for the “Chance to Advance” class August 9th. The Fellow Craft and Master Mason Blue Lodge Degrees are at the Scottish Rite and then a short form for Midian. If it all comes together we should have a new Noble and 3-Wheeler in time for CSSA!

Our prospect night at Midian did not go over so well, so we are also

planning to gain some exposure at Fall Ceremonial at the Afterglow Party. If you know of a new Noble, or even a “not so

new” Noble that is looking for a fun unit, bring them to Greenwood County to experience the 3-Wheelers.

We didn’t have our July steak cookout. I guess everyone’s schedule was just too full to squeeze it in. Hopefully we can have a good turnout for our last one of the summer. Watch your e-mail and snail mail for details. Remember this is YOUR Shrine Club and Unit. We ALL make it successful by OUR participation.

If you have news, please let me know and throw me a bone. It makes this job much easier!

We will be taking three horses to CSSA this month. Our next meeting will be August 14th, in the Oasis. we will meet at around 6:00 and will

have our meeting at 7:00. If you are interested please come.

Until next time.

YoshiThis is the month for the CSSA

competition and you can feel the excitement building amongst the Yoshi Unit. Yoshi members have been working hard to fine tune our CSSA performances. The obstacle course is still a tough one and we have been practicing getting through the cones and the 180 in the middle. Trying to remain low in our seats and not roll as we race through the course is sometimes difficult to do. Some of us have had close calls and a few have actually showed the dirty sides of the karts. Let’s hope no one does that this year, helmets may be an option.

With CSSA approaching our eyes are turning south to Tulsa. The Bedouin Shrine of Muskogee, Oklahoma is the sponsoring Shrine this year. Make sure you thank any Bedouin Shriners you see for their hospital-ity. We are hoping for a good turnout and great competition. Good luck to all the units participating!

Our unit continues to have lots of fun

performing in parades and enjoying the crowds. We seem

to get lots of thumbs up from the guys, frowns from the gals (are we too loud and too fast?), and hands

over ears from little kids. July had us at Wellington’s Wheat Festival and a few of us ventured to Pittsburg for the Shrine Bowl. Thanks to all of you that made those trips! A few of us took up booth space at the recent gun show in Century II to promote the Sportsmen Event. We are hoping that the event went well and that many tickets exchanged hands.

The 14th Annual Poker Run sponsored by the Electra glide Elite is on Sept 13. Those Yoshi members with motorcycles should plan on getting together and riding as a group. This looks to be an exciting event. Another gathering occurs that same weekend on the 14th in the Midian Shriners Car Show & Swap meet. Last year several members participated and had a lot of fun hanging out at the car show. See you there!

Arab PatrolMany thanks go to Veteran

Dave Bailey and Past Captain Dick Simpson for putting together and cooking the Cajun Boil for the Patrol Stag. Also thanks to 2nd Lieutenant Steve Travis for obtaining the cabin for our use. Also, thanks to Honorary Veteran Kyle Rhorer for putting together the golf scramble at MacDonald Golf Course. Some of the veterans present at the Cajun Boil were Jerry Stein, Dick Miller, Bill Davis, Kyle Rhorer, and Ray Sanders. Honorary Past Captain Mike Staats took some pic-tures and posted it on Facebook. Captain of the Guard Larry Tomes and 2nd Lieutenant Steve Travis just grabbed a chair and sat right down next to the spread and began eating… no plates. The rest of us were a little more civilized and filled our plates and went inside to eat. Past Captain Dick Simpson also cooked some steaks for a few patrolmen. However, after feeding everyone, he forgot to take the remaining steaks off the grill and sat down and ate. Needless to say, come clean up time, the steaks had turned into charcoal with the fat just meted and charred to the grill. I had to soak the grills a couple of days before pressure washing them. A few veterans played golf but missed the fun at the lake and they include Glenn Holmes, Loyd Geist, Todd Fisher, and Doc Rensner. The following weekend in June

found the Patrol marching in the Kechi Parade under threaten-

ing skies. Attending were Past Captain Dick Simpson, Foster Smith, Greg Barley, Brian West, Kyle Rhorer,

Alan Geist, Jay Danler and myself. A few patrolmen also played in the Golf Tournament put on by the Touchdowners to raise money for the Kansas Shrine Bowl. In attendance were Kyle Rhorer, Terry Pennington, Steve Travis, Mike Latimer and myself. Even WSU Basketball Coach Gregg Marshall was there to help out. Two teams bid a total of $2,500 for his services as the Touchdowner’s raised over $26,000. Special thanks to Past Captain Dick Simpson, Adjutant Mike Smith, 2nd Lieutenant Steve Travis and Sergeant-at-Arms Devon Olson for their help in the Midian Warehouse Cleanup day held on July 12th. I couldn’t be there because of a special Kansas Shrine Bowl meeting in Pittsburg, site of the 2014 Kansas All-Star Football game that was held on July 26th. Drill Practice is running smoothly so far so there will not be a need for two a week practices. The On To Party will be held at Doc Rensner’s house on Saturday, August 23rd and the family night for the drill will be Tuesday, August 26th and then on to Tulsa for the CSSA competition. Until next time, keep in step!

Like the theme song of that old TV show, we’re “Moving On Up”, from the second floor lobby to the stage of the Oasis. Since closure of the dining room the crowd in the lobby prior to the Stated Meetings dropped to almost nothing as most members who used to socialize there moved into the Oasis. Like most musicians we get little inspiration playing to an empty room, so we requested a trial session, being mindful of issues such as loudness and blocking the screen of the projection TV. That trial was successful…so much so that we’re now to be found on the Oasis stage each time our “turn” comes around. Thanks to Illustrious Sir Ed Day and club manager Noble Mark for working with us to make the change a positive one.

This is the time of the year when vacations, school resumption, Harvest and Fall festivals usually combine to make scheduling compli-cated, and this year has been no exception. HBB

members are reminded the August 7th rehearsal that had been cancelled is now back on the schedule. Music Director Noble Al Brumbaugh says

we need to knock off some summer rust and work with some prospective members. We are always on the lookout for new musicians, in particular this Fall a bass player to fill the slot of retiring Noble Bob Bergman. If you think you might be that person, drop by the rehearsal, 6:30 PM in the Mecca west room and get acquainted.

The Old Town Farmer’s Market job for August 30th has been moved to the 23rd to ac-commodate member CSSA overlap, and, as was the case last Fall, we again have two jobs in one afternoon…our traditional concert in the park at Sedgwick 11:45 the morning of September 20th and, thanks to the persuasive efforts of Noble Treasurer Cecil Goldsmith, a street show in Valley Center at 2:00 that afternoon!

Not much to report from July other than the Fourth of July Social. Thank you Noble JR and Lady Denise Gelvin for opening up your place to be invaded by the Directors Staff to socialize eat some great food, and to blow some stuff up. It was a great afternoon and even better evening.

However since it was a slow month, we’ll just put in a little plug for the Unit. If you are looking for a unit that has a lot of fun, and we mean A-Lot-Of-Fun, then the Directors Staff should be a choice for you. We have some of the most entertaining members the Shrine has to offer. Have you ever heard of the Village Idiots, the Not so Sexy Supremes (we’re not talking Pizza), or the Synchronized Swim Team (Definitely not the most graceful group)? They are all products of the Directors Staff; we even have a few awards to show for it, as well as being immortalized on YouTube. The Directors Staff is also at the Top of the Social Food Chain. The unit only has a couple of really Busy days throughout the year, the rest of the time is free for some great fellowship and brotherly love, yes with a little mischievous activity mixed in.

However on a serious note, we are also an integral part of Ceremonial. The unit works

their tails off during Ceremonial, Coordinating and Performing all the Stage work and conduct-ing one of the best 2nd sections in the Universe (Yes we have a few awards to back that up!). We are a major contributor to the experience the New Nobles have each Spring and Fall that helps them bond and create relationships that will last a lifetime. In Addition, no unit would be complete without their Ladies, we have a very active group ladies standing right there at our sides who have helped make the unit as entertaining and successful as it is. So if you don’t mind a little Sweat and want to be a part of something amazing, check out the Directors Staff.

Keystone Kops “MOON”Reporter

Summer is racing by and the activities for the Midian Koppers just keep on coming. The Calaboose is history for awhile. I understand we have several new parolees out there amongst us. What a fun day they had getting there. We’ll keep you posted on when we will once again perform the Calaboose Degree. Our annual co-ed golf tournament is also history. Mike Seltzer was kind enough to donate some nice jewelry for our event and we wish to thank him for that. It was won by hotshot golfer Kyle Rhorer! Way to go sandbagger. Then there was Todd Fisher who drove his golf cart right up to the awards presentation and proceeded to load it with prizes galore. He and his Lady went home happy campers! Thanks to all who came and played and to those Kops and Kopettes who helped. You are the ones who make it happen.

We also had the Kops and Friends Fishing Tournament recently. Big Bass was won by Gene Helm and Big Stringer was won by Steve and Kent Potter. Nice job by all of

you. All of us who went had a blast!

I have to report further on the ice water challenge that is going around. Last month I told you Casey Garner

performed the original challenge and that is true. What I didn’t tell you was that Casey was asleep when he met the challenge. Take that you ice water challengers!

I really enjoyed the OB picture last month circa 1954. It was great to see Randy Brown front and center playing the musette in the picture. I knew he had played the musette a long time but now we know how long! Way to go Randy!

CSSA is upon us and we Koppers will be practicing our new skit and getting ready for all the fun to be had in Tulsa town. We hope we see you all down there!

I Wonder?? Will next time Mike get to drive the boat?? I Wonder?? Could you take the ice water challenge while you were asleep?? I Wonder??

Midian Classics CLIFF PREMER Reporter

The Classics have been mak-ing the rounds. We had a great time recently at the Benton Airport where we had a coed meeting with our Ladies. It was a nice evening for some burgers and pizza and watching the airplanes come and go. Nobles Cliff Premer, Jim Groff, Bob Giesen, John Stewart and Gene Alexander and some of our Ladies headed to the Wellington Wheat Festival Parade which made for an interesting evening. As the parade began to start we found out that the horses, who must have been eating heavily before the parade, were lining up right in front of all of the Shrine units. The horses left their mark so to speak as they made their way down the parade route. The Mini Cycles and Nascarts had a great time dodging the “obstacles”, however, the Classics weren’t quite as excited about the landmines. Not sure if the Wellington parade organizers were trying to tell us something or not. The following day several of us made our way downtown to the Automobilia Moonlight Car Show where we spent some time with

a prospective new member who introduced us to his 1953 Packard

Caribbean convertible. What a beauti-ful car and it sounded pretty too.

Happy birthday wishes to Noble Gene Alexander. Happy Anniversaries

to Noble Garry Harris and Lady Jan and to Noble Gene Alexander and Lady Melinda.

Keep Kevin Roland’s dad and Lady Shirley Stewart in your thoughts and prayers. Kevin’s dad has recently been in the hospital with high blood sugar levels and will be spending some time at Kevin’s as he gets better. Lady Shirley has been hopping around the parade route with her ankle in a cast making a real fashion statement so please let her know you’re thinking about her.

Are you interested in Classic Cars? Come join the fun with the Midian Classics. We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in the Pyramid Room at 7:00 PM. If you’re interested in finding out more about the Classics, contact Noble Bob Giesen at 316-721-4178, or stop by during one of our meetings.

Well, I can officially say that not much has been happening in the Cartoon Unit. A few of us went on the Second Annual Float Trip and had a great time with the Midian Nobles, Ladies, and Friends. This was a great trip and I encourage all of you to attend a meeting for the next year trip and see if it is something for you!

We did have a great fundraiser at the Grand Re-Opening of Ace Hardware. We helped hand out hotdog and pop and all the donations went to the operating fund of the Cartoon Unit. Keep up the good work it may pay off with a new tractor for the unit!

As many of you have seen, the Ice Water Challenge has been floating around. Many of your Cartoon Officers participated and I am sure there a video played soon. For those of

you who cant wait for the video or have a video to share please go to

Facebook and like the Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy Cold Water Challenge.

We did have a few Parades, I have to be honest I have not been very good

at attending Parades this year and I really do need to get better. I encourage anyone that has not Paraded this year to please try to make at least one before the end of the year.

Also, just a heads up, we have the unit’s main fundraiser coming up, the TACO FEED! More details will be coming out in the coming month but please be thinking about what you might like to bring to table and possible drawing ideas!

And just remember, “Avoid Fruits and Nuts: After all you are what you eat! - Garfield”!

Motor Patrol’s July meeting was cancelled because of Imperial. That seems lame since none of the Motor Patrol went to Imperial except for HP&P Rocky McWilliams and PP Ron Capps and they were voting members. As I said last month, Noble Kip Hawkins purchased Noble Cy Lampe’s Motor Patrol Jeepster number three and he had the carburetor changed. Noble Kip is using it in parades. Captain Jerod’s goal is to have more Jeepsters in Tulsa for CSSA on August 27th-30th. The Kechi Parade was fun and I forgot to thank Noble Ed Parker for the great hospitality in Kechi. A tip of the hat goes to you and yours Noble Ed.

Motor Patrol Members driving in the (hot) Wheat Festival parade in wellington were Captain Jerod Cox, PP John Auch, Nobles Robert Ragsdale, Trustee Lynn Ungles, Derrick Metzger, Al Cooper, and Noble Dave Johnson and Divan members Wayne Wells, Bart Ogden, Gene Alexander and Rodney Ott. Noble Dave had one of the four “hundred point” Jeepsters he is having detailed.

Lady Debbie and I left before the Shriners started the Wheat Festival parade because the captain did not have my magnetic sign. I am not that shallow. Lady Debbie and I drove directly from Wellington to Fergus

Falls MN for a family emergency. Lady Debbie’s mother is failing and

Debbie and I are moving to Minnesota. I am resigning from my duties as Oriental Guide. We will miss the fellowship and fun of the Shrine here in Kansas but plan to continue our fraternal activities there. We are renting a home in Oslo MN. It is 123 miles south of Winnipeg Manitoba in the Red River Valley of the North. It is Family first my friends. We are and will be brothers and sisters. God Bless you all. Life is good. Enjoy every day.

Membership is the key. The Sportsman’s Event will happen about the time you read this. That will be a great way to get ready for CSSA. We have Jeepsters looking for new owners. If you are curious about joining the Motor Patrol contact Capt. Cox at 316.322.3572. The unit see Noble Reiferd Acord and Lady Judy and they are doing well per their posts on Facebook. Noble Horst Hiller has some struggles with having his gallbladder removed and Strouds building fire (Noble Horst owns the property). Noble Ron Stowell was doing very well and is at home now. Noble Charlie Kelly still has back problems. We have not seen Noble Charlie ride his Harley yet. As always Keep Noble Archie Moon in your prayers. Jeepster pictures, new pictures, what to wear, and history of our activities are found on the www.motorpatrol.us website.

Million Dollar BandAs the deadline for this edition

of the Topics rolled around, our DixieKatz were tooting our horns for Textron Aviation. On Tuesday, July 15, our venue was Plant IV at Beechcraft. Wednesday, the 16th, found us at the Pawnee Cessna plant. On Thursday, we held forth at the west Cessna plant.

Cessna was holding an all American sort of event with décor and accessories in red, white and blue as a sort of mid day party for employees. We were part of the American ambiance. Born in New Orleans, Dixieland Jazz quickly spread over these United States,

then to Europe and all over our spinning sphere. It’s great

to be one of the many bands keep this traditional music alive.

Now some members of the Band are preparing for Central States Shrine

Band Association activities in Tulsa. Regular evening rehearsals continue: Monday at 7-the DanceKatz; Monday at 8:30-the Concert Band; First and Third Tuesdays at 7-Polkatz; Second Thursday-DixieKatz.

The DixieKatz are scheduled to play as Shriners and Ladies gather for the August Stated Meeting.

It was outstanding to see so many of the Brothers and Sisters helping with Bug-O-Rama and thanks again to Noble Robert Hoch and Lady Frannie for all they did to make the Event work so well. The weather dealt us a bad card, but the experience and fun were well worth the effort! Captain Steve’s wrap up meeting and the discussions since all point towards a big effort for next year’s Event.

Now it’s “all hands on deck” for the Midian Shrine Kid’s Run coming in September. Donation money, auction items and promotion are the key ingredients to another successful Run in September and now is the time to turn up the heat! The auction items don’t need to be motorcycle related (although it doesn’t hurt) much of what we auctioned last year wasn’t bike related. A wide variety of collectables, tools and crafts will appeal to a wider group of participants and the ladies are often the higher bidders. Its also important to remind donors of the tax deductions available since the proceeds are all for charity…the best of them all…Shriners Hospitals for Children. On significant gifts from potential donors we can and will provide them with a note of thanks that establishes a value of the dona-

tion. As you read this, we’re only 45 days away from MSKR

so make the time count.Just ahead of the MSKR is the

Sportsman’s Event and the EE stands to earn a fat commission check! It’s not

too late as this issue gets out, to sell more tickets and at $5.00 bucks apiece it adds up quick. Everyone knows a shooter, collector or hobbyist that is always interested in guns. All you have to do is hand them the list and the work is done. It’s a win win for all of us!

It sounds like many of the “family” will journey to Fayetteville, Sturgis and several other destinations on two wheels as this riding season begins to head towards fall. Let’s all keep safety at the top of the list on importance as we enjoy these runs. We don’t want or need anymore duels with cars and trucks. Have you ever seen more red lights run…ever? We saw three within three blocks of Midian as we went home from the July Meeting…not a good thing. Ride safe and ride forever.

Remember that fools are born every few seconds and almost 100% of em drive automobiles. You have to do their thinking for em!

NascartsHey everybody, Ole Rick N.

Bobby commin at ya on a more serious note this month. For those of you who didn’t know, there was an accident that happened at the Wellington parade that could have been more serious than it was. A horse rider and a child on the same horse were both thrown from the horse during the parade. The horse bucked four or five times and threw the riders off because something spooked it. This horse has paraded a dozen times so it was not new to the circuit. The rider and child are both in good shape considering the circumstances. Our thoughts and prayers are with them. This is why we must be aware of our surroundings while parading, so as not to spook the animals and not to go off the parade route. We are thought to be “profes-sionals” and in control at all times because

we are known for our parades. The last thing we want to be known for is

causing harm to someone, because our cause is to help kids. This reporter does not believe we were responsible in any way because the horses were well in front of any loud gocarts that may have spooked the horse. That being said it is our responsibility to ensure that we take great care and caution NOT to be responsible for any accidents that may occur on the parade route!

Let’s wish a happy anniversary to Noble Mike and Carolyn Janzen on August 1st and happy birthday to Noble Rusty Suthards August 5th; Noble Steve Morrison August7th; Lady Lesa Ogden August 12th; Noble Nick Young August 20th; and Lady Phyllis Dix August 21st. C-ya on the track—owwww!

Ambassadors JOHN W. STEWARTMild Mannered Reporter

Well, June, 2014 has come and gone. Whoever was suppose to reserve the location and prepare the “goodies” for our monthly “night out” somehow dropped the ball. Hey, no big deal. But, this reporter has checked with our Chief of Council, Noble Ambassador Art Van Dresser, and has been assured that this will not happen again. There may have been too many other functions conflicting within the Shrine calendar. Or it may just have been that the powers above have deemed that we needed a break. Who knows?

In July we gathered for another delightful night at the Candle Club. Our hosts Noble Ambassador Bill Bell and Lady Pat were our hosts and a good time was has by all.

I am happy to report that there isn’t much in the way of illness or distress this summer. However, we are saddened to learn of the passing of former Ambassador Richard Fourgeron who died in Kimberi, Alabama on June 8th, 2014.

Noble Ambassador Andy Roberts did go in for a check up and I’m sad to report that he did have Rotator Cup surgery on July 23rd. There is an inexhaustible power in prayer.

Noble Ambassador Les Hostetler, PP had gal bladder surgery and I’m happy to report all’s well.

We did have one birthday to celebrate in June. A certain Ambassador began his walk through life in Greenwich. And yes, he is a Tea drinker. But, before you race to identify any Englishmen belonging to our Shrine.

I’m talking about Greenwich, Sedgwick County, Kansas where he

got his start. Anyone else from there? His life carried him on to Kechi,

Kansas where, ads a boy, he built a cart pulled by two goats. This was the begin-

ning of a long career in trucking. No - not driving, but rather selling and servicing GMC trucks. Yes, by now I’m sure you have guessed who I’m referring to. Noble Ambassador V.E. “Gene” Lygrisse, PP. On the 14th “Gene” celebrated his 92nd birthday and nobody has been more loyal or served our Shrine better than he. You’ll search long and hard to find a Potentate’s trip that didn’t include “Gene” and Lady Betty. Remember our Shrine boasted 8,000 members when he was Potentate in 1982. Times were different then. The Scimitar room was open daily for lunch and you’d always find “Gene” and his Divan there. Leadership demanded a little more. Happy Birthday “Gene”.

Don’t forget, CSSA is in Tulsa this year and just around the corner - August 28th - 30th.

Also, The invitations are out so lets all get our reservations in to our Director General Ambassador Al Bass and Lady Retta for the one day tour to Walnut, Kansas in September.

Until then, we’d like to see any and all of you at the Beacon. Weekdays 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. The coffee, tea or whatever is only exceeded by the good service, fun and fellowship. I hope this finds you had a delightful 4th of July.

Arami Court JAN HIEBERTReporter

Turtles were everywhere in Kechi during the Kechi Day Parade. Dozens of them adorned the LOS float, golf carts and bicycles. That must be why we won second place and $25. Thanks to the 13 Ladies who participated! Now, it’s on to the Wheat Festival Parade in Wellington.

About 8 Ladies and Nobles are headed to St. Louis July 17-19 for the presentation of the Grand High Priestess Special Project donation to Shriners Hospital in St. Louis. We’ll take lots of pictures.

Our next ceremony of initiation will be on Saturday, August 23. We will hold an interview session with prospective members on July 30th at Midian. If you’re interested in becoming a member of a fun and fulfilling organization, contact Lady Terri Wells. Help us help the kids!

The official visit of the Grand High Priestess will be August 27 and 28. Lady Bea Hillman is from Lakeland, FL. A Court meeting will be held on Wednesday, August 27. Plans for a special evening with “the Grand” are still in the works for Thursday evening. The official

visit means it’s time for books to be audited. So, get them ready, Ladies. There are some who would say that

the Ladies of Arami Court are gluttons for punishment, having just hosted the 100th

Grand Council Session. And, now they are planning the 2014 Mid-State Unit Meet. Bids had been accepted for the 2015 and 2016 meets but no one had stepped forward to bid on 2014. So, the creative, hard-working, ingenious women of Arami accepted the challenge of hosting two big events in one year. Attendees will be from Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and Louisiana will arrive on October 24 for the weekend. Themed “No Frills, No Fuss. Just Come See Us”, this year’s meet will be casual with no formals, no banquets, just fun and frivolity. Our President, Lady Phil Wohlford has set the next planning meeting for July 28 at Midian. Arami Ladies are urged to attend.

Until next month, we are like swans grace-fully floating on the water while we furiously paddle beneath the surface!

Daughters of the Nile Reporter

Daughters of the Nile Supreme Temple just held their ninety-eight Annual Session in Omaha NE, June 1st – 5th. Supreme Pr. Royal, Marsha D. Sowers from Naphis Temple No. 66 in Lincoln, NE. was elected and installed as Supreme Queen Daughters of the Nile for 2014 – 2015.

Supreme Queen Marsha’s theme is “Follow your Star” to the “Next Century of Nile.” Daughters of the Nile just celebrated their 100th year in 2013.

It was a very busy week but also very productive. Business Sessions were held each day and a lot of banquets and social events along with performances were held in the evenings. The Nebraska Temples did a wonderful job of organizing and planning this big event. The Nebraska Temples are Naphis Temple No. 66 in Lincoln, Sat-RA Temple NO. 59 in Omaha, and Naamah Temple No. 108 Hastings. Everything went smooth except for the weather. There was a tornado warning one afternoon and we had to end our session early and we could not leave. The 1000 + ladies in the room took it in stride though. There was lots of music, singing, dancing, and watching Dorothy fly through the air on the video. Those of us from the mid west did not get too concerned but we had ladies from all

over the country who are not used to tornadoes. The evening activities

were canceled but we caught up and all ended well.

Zohar Temple No. 65 had 10 Nile members along with 4 of our guys

attending. Our next event is our annual Ice Cream

Social. It will be held on Sunday, July 27th at the Kansas Masonic Home Auditorium from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm. Everyone is welcome and hopefully we will have a lot of Homemade ice cream. We will have ice cream and desserts.

Daughters of the Nile donated over 2 mil-lion to the Shriners Hospitals for Children for 2014. The distribution from the Daughters of the Nile Foundation totaled $1,626,523.00 and from the Canadian Foundation $435,542.00 for a total of $2,062,065.00. The annual contribution from the Daughters of the Nile Foundation is distributed between 21 hospitals in the US and Mexico. The donation from the Canadian Foundation is sent to Shriners Hospital for Children Canada in Montreal.

Our Temple does not meet in July or August so hope everyone has a great summer and hope to see many of you at the Ice Cream Social on the 27th of July.
