Dear Neighbours,A Warm Welcome. I have lived in Solihull since the Millennium 2000 and raised my children here. When I moved John Lewis was still a hard hat area and parking was cheap. Solihull is one of the best places to live in the UK and the intention is to make this community of ours even better with this exciting new publication. Our team want this magazine to be one you look forward to for the rich variety of insightful and interesting community based articles many written by people who live and work amongst us.

We were honoured when the new Mayor of Solihull agreed to be on our cover. Please do read her message to us.

Mayor welcomes new Solihull magazineThe Mayor of Solihull, Councillor Mrs Kate Wild, has shown her support for the newly launched My Solihull, Knowle and Dorridge magazine.

I am very pleased, in my new role as Mayor of Solihull, to have been asked to write for this first issue of ‘My Solihull, Knowle and Dorridge.’ I believe by highlighting local businesses and services this publication will encourage and promote our borough as well as help to create a bonded community spirit – something which will benefit us all.

Solihull really is the best place to live in Britain. I firmly echo the national media’s accolade for our wonderful borough. Solihull is thriving. We are surrounded by beautiful countryside within a few minutes of the town centre and totally deserve our ‘Urbs in Rure’ motto. There are top schools which feature highly in the league tables, wonderful parks, good leisure facilities, superb libraries and an excellent Arts Complex. There are an endless variety of clubs and societies to join - some of which are featured in this magazine.

Additionally with an International Airport and excellent road and rail connections we

attract many businesses which in themselves provide employment opportunities. Jaguar Land Rover, a globally recognised brand, with its world class vehicles, and many other businesses vital to our national economy are located here. We are truly blessed.

As Mayor, my role is to represent the borough; a task which I wholeheartedly embrace. It is an honour to be able to meet people, many of whom have often gone a ‘step beyond’ in their efforts to raise much needed funds for a chosen charity.

I wish this endeavour every success. I feel sure that it will help to keep the Borough of Solihull a prosperous, welcoming place in which to settle and live.

The Mayor of Solihull

Councillor Mrs Kate Wild

BACK TO SCHOOL FEATURE 9

Back to schoolIn our special feature on ‘back to school’ we look at the various options for children making the jump from primary to secondary school.

Most parents of school children will be thinking about uniform, shoes, PE kit and generally getting back into the routine of school in September. But for a few there are more pressing issues to consider. Like what secondary school to choose and whether to go comprehensive, grammar or for those who can afford it, independent.

Each of these choices are right for different types of children. The key is working out what is right for your child.

The move to secondary school is major and you want to get it right for your children first time. If you are facing this decision at the moment then hopefully this will help you.

ComprehensiveAll of the comprehensive schools in the area run several open days during September and October, so that you can make sure you get to see all those relevant to you. Some are listed on page 13 but if the one you have in mind is not there you can find them all listed online at www.solihull.gov.uk/schools where there is also lots more helpful information.

GrammarThe grammar schools in Birmingham prove to be a highly attractive option for many. Children take the grammar test early in September and the closing date for registration is in July. So for children going into year 5 in September these are some useful dates. For those going into year 6, good luck! For more information about grammar schools go to www.birminghamgrammarschools.org and to see the open days go to page 13.

IndependentAnd finally, in Solihull we are fortunate to have an excellent choice of independent schools with outstanding results and reputation. If this is the route you are planning to take you may already have decided upon a school, but if in doubt the open days are a great way to see these schools at their best. For dates see page 13.

should you do? Firstly, GCSEs in Maths, English and Sciences are essential. Secondly, choosing relevant BTEC National Diplomas or A-Levels that will gain you a place in higher education and university. Thirdly, work experience – there are schemes available through the Construction Youth Trust’s ‘Budding Brunels’ programme, and online with www.uk.engineering.net. Alternatively, www.tomorrowsengineers.org.uk also has an exciting choice of career options available.

Jaguar Land Rover, BMW, Highways Agency, Arup, Virgin Media, Cadbury, Rail Safety Solutions and BAM Nuttall offer apprenticeship programmes – often recruiting directly via your local college.

You can study these pathways at your local college or via the Open University. Many applicants aren’t aware that they meet a lot of the requirements, so with the right advice and guidance, all the options can be explored with the National Careers Service on 0800 100 900 or with a Careers Advisor at Solihull College on 0121 678 7000.

Kaye Toy, Solihull College Careers Advisor

A career in Engineering or Construction? Why not?

Kaye Toy, careers advisor at Solihull College has some words of advice if you are considering a career in construction.

Are you looking for a new career? The Engineering and Construction industries face huge skills shortages, so why not consider training or retraining in these fields? Demand for staff is expected to outstrip supply, so why wait to start a bright, new future?

With the West Midlands having the highest amount of engineering companies in the UK, Civil engineering graduates can expect to earn an average starting salary of £26,545. Two thirds of new graduates are in employment within six months of completing their qualifications, so it is a sound career choice for young people to consider during their GCSEs and A-Levels.

The automotive, aerospace, electronics, energy, rail and utility sectors are forecast to grow. Together with the redevelopment of Birmingham New Street station and the high-profile HS2 project, it is predicted that 10,000 new jobs will be created with £9billion investment.

So if you’re keen to explore a new career within the construction or engineering industry, what

International Baccalaureate a great start in life

The International Baccalaureate is an all round preparation for life and statistically IB students drop out of university in fewer numbers than A level students. They also get a higher percentage of first class degrees and start on higher salaries. Impressive results this year secure Bromsgrove School’s position as one of the UK’s top IB schools. The average IB student at Bromsgrove gained 560 UCAS points, which is comparable to four A* at A Level.

The School’s Director of IB, Doctor Michael Thompson, said: “We are delighted with these results which reflect superbly well, not just on the students themselves, but also on all those involved in delivering IB courses, monitoring and supporting pupil progress.

“Keeping up maths and languages is a sine qua non for many ambitious pupils and parents who want to be able to operate in the global market.”

In 2014, local Bromsgrove student Jagraj Bhandal was one of those who scored 44 out of a possible 45, having previously also achieved A* in both maths and further maths A Levels and an A in AS physics.

But Bromsgrove is much more than a place to get good grades, it prides itself on being a happy school where children of all ages can thrive both academically and outside of the classroom.

A recent parental survey supported this with over 97% saying their child was happy or very happy at school. The opportunity to develop and excel in non academic areas is of huge importance and a wide range of sports and activities are on offer every day and at the weekend.

Catering for 1600 pupils aged 3 -18 on three sites (although the prep and senior schools are adjacent to each other) gives the school a unique position within the town of Bromsgrove. With over 400 boarders, including international pupils coming from 40 different nationalities, together with a strong contingent of British boarders, the school is a small global community – a place to live, work and make friends for life.

All Round EducationAll-round education and the development of the whole child are the subject of debate, and parents and school leavers alike are waking up to the fact that good grades alone are not enough if you want to stand out and compete in the professional world.

Indeed, increasing numbers of parents are placing emphasis on investigating opportunities for what is commonly termed ‘personal development’ alongside more traditional indicators of academic excellence such as a school’s league table position and leavers’ university destinations.

Development of character in young people is not at the cost of academic performance: instead, evidence shows it boosts exam results. The best schools embrace character-building and an all-round education not as an alternative to academic attainment but as an essential adjunct of it. Dr Weeks, Headmistress at Edgbaston High School for Girls, says:

“At EHS we focus on enriching the overall educational experience: not only do pupils make excellent academic progress and achieve high standards in their work, but they also benefit from a full range of stimulating physical, artistic, cultural and recreational activities.

“Much emphasis is placed on the value of participation and a strong sense of social and moral responsibility. Pupils are encouraged to work as part of a team, face new challenges and acquire new skills and this can provide character-building opportunities for all which instils confidence and a sense of achievement in pupils.

”This approach, combined with excellent teaching, means that we are able to offer our pupils a truly well-rounded education.”

Parents are invited to visit Edgbaston High School with their daughters at one of their forthcoming open days:

• 91% pass rate to selective grammar schools in 2014

• 62 scholarships to independent schools in 2 years

• 6 children achieving gold medals at the National UK Maths Challenge Finals

…but, we did not achieve all of this by teaching just maths, english and study skills in preparation for the 11+ examinations. To the contrary, in addition to the usual timetable, Year 5 went on a residential trip to Cranedale, our U11 Chess Team became National IAPS Champions, the U11 Soccer Team reached the last 16 of the ISA National Finals and Year 6 performed Macbeth – all 52 of them and to the highest acclaim – with the Royal Shakespeare Company.

Children leave our school, happy, well rounded and prepared for the secondary school experience, with the skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed.

Roger Outwin-Flinders Headmaster, Hallfield School, Edgbaston.

Two halves make more than one wholeOutside London, Birmingham is believed to have the most demanding and selective 11+ system in the country.

For many parents over the years, entry to selective grammar schools has become a central obsession: 10,000 children are prepared and tutored every year for a meagre 1,500 places; a figure which is soon to increase. However, despite the increase in places available, the raw statistics do not make for happy reading – 5 in 6 children will fail the 11+ examination!

However, there is more to education than passing examinations. It is essential to educate the ‘whole child,’ the mind and body, through a creative, artistic and physical education within an enriched curriculum. This allows children to be challenged and to flourish, to develop the confidence to achieve - and to learn how to fail. Yvette Baker, Old Hallfieldian (1998 – 2003) London 2012 Olympian (synchronised swimming) and guest of honour at our annual Speech Day and Prize Giving, informed the guests of how her earlier failures spurred her on to achieve her greatest success.

Local Charities Need YOUAs a community magazine we will be supporting a different charity in each of our issues. The idea is to help spread the word about the good work they are doing and to put our money where our mouth is and donate 10% of our profits to them.

For our first charity we have chosen Age UK Solihull. If you would like to suggest a local charity for a future issue please get in touch with us, our contact details are on page 4.

About Age UK Solihull

Age UK Solihull is a local independent charity with a vision is of a world where older people flourish and a mission to help improve the lives of older people living in Solihull.

Age UK plays a vital role in the community providing many services and activities to older people. The charity relies on the generosity of local people and businesses to help fund their work across the borough and undertake valuable work which helps people maintain control of their lives, reduce social isolation, promotes health and wellbeing and enables people to remain independent for longer.

Age UK has 300 volunteers who contribute greatly. Without them it would not be possible to help 33,000 older people in Solihull every year.

Harry’s Story

Harry had a nasty fall and was unable to leave the house to do his shopping and many other everyday chores. He began to feel lonely, isolated and quickly lost his independence.

A phone call to Age UK Solihull’s Information and Advice service changed everything for Harry. A volunteer told him about all the different Age UK services that could help and also sent him information about how he could avoid trips and falls in the future.

Age UK Solihull then arranged for the Fire Service to pop in and deliver a food parcel to Harry.

Since Age UK Solihull’s intervention, Harry is far more confident and has started to leave the house again. He has caught the train and does his grocery shopping in Solihull. Harry said: “I don’t know what I would’ve done without Age UK Solihull; I would be lost without them.”

manner. Failure to do this can lead to a claim for breach of these regulations, which enables employees to be awarded up to 8 weeks’ pay.

“However the greater concern, given that the majority of these requests have historically been brought by mothers returning from maternity leave, is a claim for discrimination. Here, awards of compensation are uncapped, so employers need to ensure all requests are considered fairly.”

Employment law is the fastest changing area of law, with changes coming into place all the time. Tribunal cases can be costly to all parties involved and damage businesses, so the best approach is to be prepared and avoid litigation.

If you need to know more about flexible working there are guidelines at www.gov.uk/flexible-working or you can contact Darryll Thomas at The Wilkes Partnership to discuss in person – [email protected]

The Wilkes Partnership LLPStanton House, 54 Stratford RoadShirley, Solihull, B90 3LS0121 733 8000 | www.wilkes.co.uk

Are your staff requesting flexible working hours? Are you an employee that doesn't do mornings?

Recent changes in the law mean that any employee can request flexible working hours - not just those taking care of children or the disabled.

In the first of our ‘meet the team at Wilkes’ series we say hello to Darryll Thomas, associate solicitor specialising in employment law, who has a few words of advice on recent changes to the flexible working regime.

Darryll’s advice is to ensure any request is made formally, in accordance with the criteria laid down by the regulations as this offers the ultimate protection to both employers and employees.

He said: “Since 2003 parents responsible for children aged five and below and those with disabled children could make a request for flexible working. In 2007 this was extended to parents of children aged 16 and below (18 where disabled) and carers of disabled or elderly adults.

“The recent changes have extended this right to all employees regardless of why they need the time. Flexible working can take many forms, such as altered working pattern, reduced hours, job share, work from home, term time contract, etc.

“The right is to be able to make a request, not to have it granted and employers are obliged to consider all requests in a reasonable

Time to spruce up your home?Sunny summer weather is what we all look forward to the rest of the year, and it’s the perfect time to have your home re-decorated.

If it’s time to spruce up your home and you don’t have the time or the inclination to ‘do it yourself ’ then Kris Shenoi is the next best thing.

Kris has an eye for detail and ‘perfectionist’ as his middle name and has built up his talented team at Krean Property Maintenance over the last 14 years.

Krean is based in Solihull and the team spread their meticulous brush strokes across the Midlands and in London.

Kris said: “Put simply, we love what we do. Bringing out the best in beautiful period and modern properties alike gives us immense satisfaction, and seeing the delight on our

client’s faces when they see the finished result is what makes it all worthwhile.

“We like to give our clients value for money and we know they are happy because they come back to us time after time. What we have found particularly interesting is the success of our female-only decorating team who put clients at their ease in situations where there are stay at home mums.”

Sandy adds “My advice to anyone considering equity release is to talk to a suitably qualified advisor who specialises in this area. Equity release plans, or to give them their proper title, lifetime mortgages and home reversion plans, are available to homeowners aged 55 years and over. The amount released depends on a number of factors, which include your age, the value and type of property you own.

“For many, equity release plans are a great option, although they are not suitable for everyone. Your specialist adviser should take the time to understand your personal circumstances and objectives to be able to advise you appropriately.”

Would you like to know more about releasing some of the equity from your home? Sandy and her team are just a phone call away.

Acclaimed Mortgage Consultancy21 Dengate DriveBalsall CommonCoventry, CV7 7UL01676 533 658www.mortgage-consultancy.co.uksandy@mortgage-consultancy.co.uk

Do you need to release some equity from your home?

You are not alone. Statistics show that 150,000 interest-only mortgages are maturing annually over the next seven years with no repayment vehicle in place. Equity release is one of the best ways to solve this problem.

Getting the right advice on equity release and mortgages can be a minefield, so we are fortunate that the winner of Best Adviser in the Sole Trader category at the most recent National Equity Release Awards in 2013 is based just down the road.

Sandy Ameer-Beg is a breath of fresh air with her no-nonsense jargon-free advice on mortgages, equity release, protection and insurance.

Based in Balsall Common, Sandy established her business, Acclaimed Mortgage Consultancy in 2002 and since then she has been providing the very best advice for her clients.

Sandy said: “Many people are aware of equity release but might not be fully clear as to what it is exactly.

“In simple terms, it is a way of releasing funds from the value of your home. You can use these funds for a variety of reasons, including repaying an interest only mortgage, topping up monthly income, helping a family member get on the property ladder, or for a holiday or home improvements.

“Ultimately it’s entirely up to you how you use the money you raise.

Acclaimed Mortgage Consultancy is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Your home or property may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage. Home Reversion and Lifetime Mortgages are complex products. To understand the features and risks ask for a personalised illustration.

When asked if the job gets tougher or easier with time, the answer was “….definitely tougher because of people’s higher expectations and lower toleration. Sadly, courtesy and manners are disappearing and people can often be aggressive and confrontational.”

Can he have a decent social life with the job? “Absolutely not.” Depending on the shift he is on, his day either begins at 3.50am or clocks off at 10pm.

The best piece of advice he can give travellers? Check before you leave home for alterations to the schedule.

The inability to interact with customers in any meaningful way because they go past in seconds, is something he would like to change but the nature of train travel makes that impossible. However, he has learned to retain his sense of humour and keep smiling because people might reflect that back and, he says, “there’s nothing better than making people smile.”

All aboardHumans of Solihull - introducing our local unsung heroes

Michael is a familiar face to many rail travellers having worked at the station for over ten years. He wishes he’d been there when The Queen arrived at Solihull Station when she visited on 2nd July 2002.

As Solihull Station Host his work requires him to be a “Jack of all trades” as he deals with the large car park, supplies for the automated ticket machines, assisting disabled folk arriving and departing including the sight challenged, helping the frail and elderly if they have baggage, as well as all the regular chores involved in running the busy ticket office.

When asked how many times a day he has to deal with lost luggage - he said he’d already had 3 enquiries that morning. Lost handbags, purchases and coats. “The weather makes a difference,” he says. “When it’s sunny people get more forgetful.”

When asked the biggest change he’d witnessed during the last ten years, without hesitation he said “technology.” Staff can now give live information on times and alterations but otherwise train travel remains caught in a time warp with whistles, flags and much of the paraphernalia of times past. (would we want that to change?)

UntouchableFilm review from Solihull Film Society

Without doubt the most popular film screened by Solihull Film Society this season is this delightful French comedy.

The film is based on a true story of Philippe, an intelligent, cultured quadriplegic millionaire who employs Abdel, an Arab born, streetwise ex convict as his carer.

Despite Abdel stealing a Fabergé egg during his job interview the pair are drawn together by honesty and humour, fear and friendship.

Abdel has only applied for the job of Philippe’s carer so that he can keep claiming his income support but Philippe spots something in Abdel that others cannot see.

He is irreverent, cheeky and has an outrageous sense of humour, and he doesn’t feel sorry for Philippe.

Untouchable is both heartbreaking and very funny. The two men discover that they both have disadvantages in life – one a physical

TALES FROM HERONFIELD ANIMAL RESCUE

A local animal sanctuary welcomes new arrivals. Mother duck and her 13 ducklings are the latest arrivals at Heronfield Animal Sanctuary just outside Knowle. Muma Duck, as she has been named, was rescued from the roof of Tesco’sMitch Withey runs Heronfield Animal Rescue which began more than 50 years ago by his father. Mitch said: “Together with volunteers, many on work experience coming from local colleges, we look after injured wildlife and discarded pets at our friendly farm on the edge of the canal just outside Knowle, where there are now more than 300 animals and birds.

“Muma Duck and her 13 ducklings are our latest arrivals. I had a call from a lady whose flat is above Tesco’s in Knowle. The duck family had chosen her roof garden to nest in. To Muma Duck it was ideal … until the time came to get her little ones to water. This is an annual task as Muma Duck faithfully returns to the same spot every year. When it is safe I will return them to the canal.

“In 1980 when Coventry’s Southam Zoo closed down, a tiger and lioness cub destined to be destroyed came to live at Heronfield. These magnificent cats were tame having been born in captivity and until they were too big, shared our home.

Look out for regular features in forthcoming issues by Relate on relationships, RSPB Solihull on bird watching; with quizzes on the sculpture and art all around us. The Humans of Solihull feature is based on the hugely successful Humans of NY online site highlighting individuals within our community who we may have the chance to interact with. In fact, you’ll see this first issue focuses on lives and careers. Mitch Withey at Heronfield knew by the time he was six years old he wanted to spend his life working with animals.

My Solihull, Knowle & Dorridge is about drawing the community closer and improving people’s lives, even if just in a small way. Feedback is always welcome.

Julia Parsons, Editor

Meet the editorIntroducing My Solihull, Knowle and Dorridge Editor Julia Parsons.

The successful American businessman Bo Bennett said, “Enthusiasm is excitement with inspiration, motivation and a pinch of creativity” which neatly sums up my emotion at being given the opportunity to bring informative and readable features to you.

When you see this publication arrive on your doorstep, my ambition is that you greet it with pleasure and the expectation of a few minutes of browsing through the advertisements and articles. Then My Solihull goes on the ‘To Do’ pile, so you can easily find it to refer to if you need a tradesman referral or the “What’s On” listings, till the next one hits your doormat.

The businesses and institutions you see advertising will mainly be local ones and folk who founded their company with a bold, entrepreneurial spirit. Making the decision to pay to advertise has an element of gamble and risk about it. We know that we can justify their faith because some of the 22,000 people receiving My Solihull, Knowle & Dorridge will be giving them the opportunity to prove their claims.

If you know of a society or club we haven’t mentioned, if you have an event happening and need to let people know about it, if you know of a local charity we should be supporting - then this is your forum to get the word out there. Let us know with as much notice as you can and if there’s space we’ll do our best to print the information.

Royal Star & Garter Home, as well as the widows and partners of ex-Service people.

Since foundation The Royal Star & Garter Homes have enjoyed Royal patronage, including that of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II from 1953 to the present day.

Ivor enlisted in the RAF in 1941, joining 107 Squadron. In 1943 he was sent to Scotland where he worked in a specialised maintenance unit. One of their jobs was to remove the cleverly designed bomb releasing mechanism adapted for the Lancaster Aircraft used in the Dambusters raid. It’s a fascinating story Ivor tells.

Local war veteran turns his talent to tapestry.Ivor Jackman came to live at the Royal Star & Garter Homes in Solihull last year and is already making an impression with his remarkable hobby… tapestry-making.

His most recent success is a stunning work of The Royal Star & Garter Homes’ insignia which he designed by eye, working from the wooden emblem inlaid into the foyer floor at this Solihull Home. His attention to detail is amazing: from his precise needlework to his wish to iron the finished piece himself.

Ivor presented the tapestry to the Charity’s Chief Executive, Mike Barter CBE, at a special unveiling ceremony. The tapestry has been framed and hung in the foyer for all to enjoy. Meanwhile, Ivor is working on a new, top-secret, project.

The Royal Star & Garter Homes is a charity established in 1916 to care for severely injured young men returning from the battlegrounds of the First World War. Today they provide specialist nursing care to the whole military family in friendly, comfortable homes with disabled people benefiting from a pioneering approach to nursing and therapeutic care.

Anyone who is physically disabled or living with dementia and has served in Her Majesty’s Forces is eligible to apply for a place in a

securing a new GP surgery on Dickens Heath and a new library in Balsall Common, and regenerating the housing on the Chelmsley Wood estate.

One of the biggest challenges coming up is HS2 which will have its first stop 31 minutes outside London at Birmingham International. So I am busy trying to get mitigation and compensation for constituents whose properties are affected and I have submitted a petition on compensation for the construction works.

I had a tough time as a cabinet minister, but now I’m on the backbenches I have more time for the constituency. My husband has always been a great support and plays cricket for Knowle and Dorridge and although our 3 children are grown up, they still like coming home to Solihull. I’m so grateful for the chance to fulfil my vocation all these years for and in this wonderful borough.

Caroline Spelman

Why I Went Into PoliticsIn the first profile piece in our ‘meet your local MP’ series we say hello to Caroline Spelman, conservative member of parliament for the Meriden constituency. People often ask me why I went into politics. The answer may surprise you - I see it as a vocation.

My father taught me the importance of giving back to the community where you live. I was also passionate about the issue of trade justice.

I was working in the sugar industry, but Europe was dumping its surplus on world markets using subsidies, which ruined the market for poor farmers in developing countries. So I got stuck in as a legislator and that doesn’t happen today.

Being an MP is really two jobs: Monday to Thursday at Westminster, where the hours are long, then back to the constituency Friday to Sunday when I hold surgeries in different parts of the constituency, visit schools, businesses, attend public events and campaign both in and out of elections.

I enjoy knocking on doors as I like to know what people are really thinking. You do get the chance to improve things for your constituency, like

The charity has a busy summer planned following its networking event in June at Malmaison Hotel, Birmingham; business advice in conjunction with Barclays in Birmingham and a new partnership with alternative-finance specialists, Clifton Asset Management to discuss funding. All the details for these events and many more, are on the website: www.prime.org.uk/courses

Prime is piloting a series of brand new services in Birmingham during the summer and if successful, the charity will be delivering these across the UK.

Nicky Templeton added: “We have found that many people with a strong business idea need some guidance and a bit of confidence so they can see how their dream can take shape and grow into reality. Come along to one of our events where we hope we can inspire you to make a positive change to your life.”

Over 50 with a big idea? Then there is hope for you yet. Prime is a new initiative founded by HRH The Prince of Wales to help people over 50 get started with their own business.Prime was founded by The Prince in response to the letters he was receiving from mature people desperate to find work, but unable to find anyone to employ them - because of their age. The Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise (PRIME) is the only national organisation dedicated to supporting business creation by the over 50 year old entrepreneur.

Nicky Templeton speaking on behalf of The Prince of Wales said, “We believe enterprise offers a positive solution for older people, whether they are finding it difficult to get back into work or want to try something new in their careers. The over 50s today are vibrant, positive, full of energy and their accumulated years of skills and experience naturally lend themselves to starting a business.”

Today there are more than 3.5 million 50 to 64 year olds not actively participating in the economy and many of those feel opportunities are not available to them. HRH The Prince of Wales feels with the support of Prime this can change.
