RIVERLIFE BIBLE READING PLAN

We’re into the 5th month! Download weekly reading schedule at rlc.sg/brp.

The mark of a growing disciple is the discipline to self-feed. During this unprecedented time, the Lord is redirecting His people to pause and rediscover Him and His ways afresh. This is the heart behind our Bible Reading Plan - that we, as a church will delight the Father when we are growing in our love for Him and allowing His Spirit to move us in obeying His Word in our lives.

The more we know God and obey His Word, our faith will be unshakeable regardless of the situation around us.

The Bible Reading Plan comprises a daily passage with reflection questions to guide you in meditation. You can also journal what God’s Spirit is prompting you to do in applying the Word.

Join us to read through the books of Nehemiah and 1 Peter and the various themes that these books address.

NEW SERMON SERIES: 1 PETER

Synopsis – A Counter-Cultural Life

During the first four centuries, Christ followers met in small house churches surrounded by neighbours and even family members who scorned their beliefs and their values. Their obedience to the call of Christ had made them countercultural. The epistle of 1 Peter is a powerful and encouraging letter addressed to these Christians facing a pagan and hostile society.

These believers were mainly of non-Jewish background, who converted to Christianity. They were hurt by those who would blame the wrongs of the culture on their witness; but they were encouraged to stand firm and live above reproach when facing persecution in the forms of slander, riots, local police action and social ostracism. These principles prepared them for the suffering to come, in the form of a severe persecution of Christians in Rome and Paul’s death.

Today, we may face sneers and ostracism when we stand for what is right and true. As a church, we need to prepare the Bride for the End Times when we will encounter widespread hostility. Just as Christ was misunderstood and persecuted, we expect no less as we follow in His footsteps.

As Christ followers, we live between two worlds – Christ and culture. Do we go with the flow? If we decide to live counterculture, we find ourselves in a situation like the early Christians - facing the challenge of living as cultural exiles. Strangers as we are to this culture, we are chosen to embody and express God’s Kingdom truths as an invitation to the world, so that others can experience the world as our Father had intended.

In this sermon series A Counter-Cultural Life, rediscover the strength and encouragement to help us to be bold as we live faithfully and stand for Christ when many around us do not share our Christian values. May we also realise the hope we have in the face of difficult times and sufferings. In so doing, we can spur one another to living a life consistent with following Christ regardless of the challenges and hardships.

You may also prepare yourself for this new sermon series by learning the Overview of 1 Peter.

Missions Emphasis Weekend RIVERLIFE CARES (RL CARES) Partnership between RiverLife Church and RiverLife Community Services RL Cares is an outreach initiative to bridge the church to the community through consistent and intentional engagement platforms. The initiative focuses on supporting low-income families living in rental blocks. We seek to journey with these families through befriending and life on life journeying. These families will be able to develop life skills and experience a healthy community through the various engagement platforms of RL Cares. E.g. Bless Family Programme in RCS. RL Cares seeks to involve cell groups to partner with one another to love the community.
