About Shalom AustinWe know the Jewish people of Austin will live their best lives when they can access a vibrant, thriving community of people who share a culture of common life experiences. Shalom Austin empowers the people and organizations that make a difference in our Jewish community. Located primarily on the 40-acre Dell Jewish Community Campus in Northwest Austin, Shalom Austin provides leadership, financial support, services, facilities and connections with people and Jewish organizations throughout Austin, Israel and the world.

Shalom Austin supports four main branches, including the Jewish Community Center, Jewish Federation of Greater Austin, Jewish Family Service and the Jewish Foundation of Austin & Central Texas, who are all tasked with delivering on aspects of our promise to the Austin community. These branches work together to comprehensively address the needs of Austin’s Jewish community in collaboration with area congregations, schools, and community organizations.

The goals and operations of Shalom Austin are based upon and guided by the core Jewish values of kehillah (community building) , limud (the centrality of learning and Jewish culture to Jewish life) , tikkun olam (the commitment to make the world a better place) , tzedakah (pursuing justice through acts of Jewish giving) , and k’lal Yisrael (the oneness and unity of the Jewish people worldwide).

{new}EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM(Ages 6 Wks-Pre-K)

The goal of the Early Childhood Program (ECP) is to develop competent, happy, curious children. Teachers do this each day by offering a variety of activities to stimulate children physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially. Activities are both structured and spontaneous. The school provides opportunities that encourage the development of children’s self-esteem and self-control with the use of positive guidance, an appreciation of cultural diversity, and respect for each child’s individuality. The ECP also introduces the children and their families to Jewish holidays and customs and fosters a developmentally appropriate understanding of Jewish culture in the context of a multicultural society.

For more information or to schedule a tour of our facilities (available Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 9 AM), please call 512-735-8100 or visit www.shalomaustin.org/ecp.

Austin Patient Partners AdultsAustin Patient Partners assists those who are alone as they confront the health care system. We are looking to recruit and train volunteers to accompany single adults to doctor’s appointments in the hopes of reducing anxiety and isolation through what can be a worrisome experience. Research indicates that when patients are anxious, understanding of the medical diagnosis and recommended treatment is reduced. Having a “second set of ears” can be a comfort and can improve the communication between medical staff and those who find themselves in a health care system that can be therapeutic and curative, but also daunting, in the process. If you are interested in volunteering as a patient advocate, JFS provides training. For more information, contact Carlye Levine at 512-250-1043 or [email protected].
