An important reminder to all archers (including your families & friends), is that the 2nd annual Iowa Trail Shoot, a marked yardage 3-D is August 11 & 12 at Hitaga Archery Range in Walker, Iowa, just north of Cedar Rapids. Bring your range finder for the fun of it and consider this a good practice for hunting this fall. This shoot is open to anybody from any State, etc. See the full page ad on Page 2 for information on two 1st Place $1,000 prize, etc. We need your support to make this event a success. Bring a car load of archers, all ages, for fun & competition. Last but not least, see Page 24 for information on the Rinehart Shoot, also at Hitaga Archers Club, later in August! Iowa Season Opener Morning Day One
By Jan Kostka
First Day Double - Teamwork We set up in the dark on opening day north of Mason City. At daybreak, when Gary used his owl call, toms gobbled within 50 yards. We heard clucking, so Gary responded with his slate call. We could see many birds in the grass behind us. One tom came quickly to the jake decoy seven yards in front of our blind. Three hen decoys also enticed the tom. Jan just had to wait until the tom gave her a clear shot broadside. At seven yards distance, Jan shot her bird at 6:28 a.m. Three more toms came in to investigate, and two jumped on her downed bird. Gary drew his bow, and shot his tom at 15 yards. Gary shot his bird at 6:35. Another big tom, two jakes and three hens were behind us. We waited until they all moved ✁✂✄☎✆✂ ✝✞✂✄☎ ✟✆✞✂✆ ✠✆ ✡✆✄ ✞✁✂ ✟✡☛✝☞✌ ✍✎✂✏✑✒ ✟☛✂☞

Quad Cities Senior Olympics - Hosted by Davenport Valley Archers Long Grove, Iowa - June 19, 2011
The Archery Venue of the 22
th Annual Quad Cities Senior Olympics [QCSO] was hosted by the Davenport Valley Archers [DVA] at
their Outdoor Range near Long Grove, Iowa on June 9, 2012. A record high total of 34-Archers registered this year which was the 14
th time that Archery was included as a
QCSO Venue. The weather was perfect for shooting outdoor targets and there were some record high scores shot. Four records were broken by our Archers this year (refer to below listing in bold print). Our most unusual story is one of a participating archer, Bob Elliott, in just only a few weeks before the shoot was unable to shoot right-handed (his regular style). So as not to miss out on this event, Bob used another bow and shot the entire tournament left-handed, which resulted in the most impressive feat being that he still managed to score in the 800-point range. An official National Field Archer ✁✂✂✄☎✆✝✞✆✄✟✠✂ 900 round was the tournament format consisting of shooting 30-arrows at 60-yards, 30-arrows at 50-yards, and 30-arrows at 40-yards. Six arrows were shot and scored as a group until all 90-arrows were shot. A perfect score totals 900 points using 10-points per arrow hitting the 4.3-inch diameter center ring of the target (bullseye). The shooters voted to continue shooting the 900 round for next year, in lieu of changing to a 600-round (60-arrow format).

$5800. The practice range earned $2500 and the bow storage earned $412. Ken S. mentioned that the
targets used in the 2012 ProAm were borrowed and that new targets may need to be purchased. John S.
suggested rebuilding the old targets and using them as practice targets. Karol S. mentioned that Kevin K. is
working with Delta for all new targets. Dan V. asked if there are any donation commitments made for the 2013
ProAm. Karol S. replied that Scheels has committed to $10,000 and Mathews has committed to $5000.
Ed H. suggested that there be two pro divisions at the ProAm: a traditional pro division intended for the pro
shooters and a semi pro division for skilled amateurs. A rule could be established that a skilled amateur must
shoot in the traditional pro division if they win the amateur pro division a certain number of times. This topic
will be discussed at the annual ProAm meeting which will be set up by Diana D.
