Update on ADA, AAMI, and ISO Standards2:30 PM – 3:30 PM | Fiona Collins, BDS, MBA, MA, and Shannon Mills, DDS

National and international industry standards create consensus on best practices for the design and manufacture of materials, devices, and health information technology used in dentistry. The American Dental Association Standards Committee for Dental Products (SCDP), and the Standards Committee for Dental Informatics (SCDI) are designated by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop industry standards for dental products in the US. The ADA also participates in the activities of the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), which develops standards for sterilization equipment and related products. ANSI accredits the SCDP, the SCDI, and AAMI to participate in the development of international standards as members of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). OSAP is a voting member of the SCDP and SCDI and participates indirectly through the ADA with AAMI. OSAP and ADA representatives to these organizations will provide an overview of current OSAP standards development activities.
