Everyone has a calling. Whether it is as a mother or father, as a doctor or as a teacher, our calling is the way that we bring about God's plan for our lives and the lives of those we serve. When we speak of fulfilling God's calling in our lives, we often use the word vocation. Today I want to share a bit about my vocation and how I came to discern that God was calling me to follow him as a priest.

I grew up here in South Jersey. Throughout elementary school, my family attended Mass together each Sunday and my brother and I were altar servers at our parish. During my freshman year of high school, my parish started a youth group which I began attending. It was during a youth retreat at the end of that year when I first heard a priest and seminarian talking about their vocations and I first began to think about the priesthood.

Throughout the rest of high school, my thoughts began to shift from "Maybe I could be a priest," to "I want to be a priest." So, as the time came to apply to colleges, it only felt natural for me to apply to the seminary. I was accepted for here in the Camden diocese and began my seminary formation in Fall 2009 at St. Andrew's College Seminary at Seton Hall. Eight years later, it is wonderful to see the end in sight. As many of you know, I will be ordained a deacon on September 28 and, God willing, Deacon Anthony Infanti and I will both be ordained priests next June.

I want to thank everyone for your many prayers for vocations in our diocese. Your prayers are paying off! When I entered the seminary in 2009, we had eight seminarians studying for our diocese. This weekend, our diocese welcomes two new seminarians, giving us 19 seminarians for this upcoming year. God is still calling young men to follow Him as priests! Finally, I would like to invite you all to begin praying that God will call someone from this parish to follow Him as a priest. That is a prayer I am sure He will answer. Seminarian Joshua Nevitt

Stewards Follow

“He said, “Come”. Peter got out of the boat and began to walk on the water toward Jesus.”

- MATTHEW 14:29 When you hear Jesus calling, do you respond immediately and trust that He knows what He’s doing? If so, you are walking on water! When we say “yes” to Jesus, we are acting as his Stewards and feel the power of his presence in our lives. We can feel the freedom it gives us! Listen how Jesus is calling you to live the extraordinary life He has in mind for you.

August 5-6, 2017: Offertory Collection: $14,051.00

The demands of family can be so overwhelming we feel walking on water would be easier. When Jesus was pressured, He dismissed everyone, so he could be “by himself and pray.” When overwhelmed and stressed, go to a quiet place and surrender your pressured feelings to the Lord using Peter’s prayer in today’s gospel: “Lord, save me.”

ALTAR SERVER TRAINING There will be new altar server training held at St. Teresa of Avila Church from Monday, August 14 until Friday, August 18. The training will be held from 10 AM until 12:15 PM. This training session is for kids who want to serve at Immaculate Conception Church and St. Teresa of Avila Church. All new candidates MUST have their First Communion done. We also ask that ALL altar servers, new and current be present on Friday, August 18th at St. Teresa of Avila. There will be a separate training session for St. Mary’s altar servers in the fall. More information to follow…

IMMACULATE CONCEPTION RECTORY GIFT SHOP Did you know we have a gift shop at the Immaculate Conception Church rectory? It’s open almost every day from 9 AM to 6 PM. We have bibles, rosaries, prayer books, statues, medals and chains, candles and holy water and many other items at very reasonable prices. Any of the priests and staff will be very happy to help you. This might be the place to help you with different occasions: Baptisms, First Communion, Confirmation and weddings. Why not try us out? You can contact us at (856) 451-0254.

KEEP ON DONATING YOUR SHOP RITE REGISTER

TAPES! Thank you for continuing to donate your Shop Rite register tapes. Remember that every week, the Parish of the Holy Cross receives a check from Shop Rite for 1% of the total dollar amount of these tapes (minus sales tax). Recently, the Parish has been receiving an average of $200 a week from these receipts and the more receipts you donate, more money will be donated to the Parish, so keep them coming! We are collecting only tapes from Bottino’s Shop Rites (Shop Rite of Upper Deerfield, Millville and Delsea). Tapes must total a minimum of $10.00; tobacco items, gift cards and prescriptions are excluded. Tapes may be put in the collection basket or they can be dropped off at the parish office.

CENTENNIAL OF OUR LADY OF FATIMA 1917-2017: THE STORY OF THE MIRACLES...

This is the sixteenth part of a series that chronicles the story of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima to remind our parishioners to

celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the miracles at Fatima. Our Lady warned that WWI would end, but unless people did not stop offending God, a worse one would break out during the pontificate of Pius XI. “When you see a night illuminated by an unknown light, know that this is the great sign given to you by God that He is about to punish the world for its crimes, by means of war, famine and persecutions of the Church and of the Holy Father (This sign is now known to be an aurora borealis which was so great that it illuminated the skies of Europe on January 25-26, 1938).” To prevent this, She asked for the consecration of Russia to her Immaculate Heart and the Communion of Reparation on the first Saturday of every month. “If my request is not heeded, Russia shall spread her errors throughout the earth, causing wars and persecutions of the Church.” To be continued… Mark your Calendar: Rosary Rally, Oct. 14 at noon

The world was a playground for Mickey, a naive Irish American kid bored with his life. His father served in World War II, his brother was a Marine in Vietnam; now it was his turn. His 365 days in Vietnam builds in torment until an attack on a bunker complex in Cambodia. Wounded, his friend captured, he becomes a tormented survivor knowing he is always just a heartbeat from death.

In this memoir, set as deeply in his mind as in the Southeast Asian jungle, a young American soldier embarks

on a journey to a war that, for him, will never be over.
