GRATITUDE SHRINE // ALTAR DE GRATITUD

We have a new shrine devoted to all those prayers of gratitude. Some suggestions for

these prayers are Birthdays, Anniversaries, Sacra-ments, Birth of a Baby, Graduation, Gratitude for Healing, or a General Gratitude Prayer. To submit a prayer, go to the St. John Vianney website sjvhh.org and look for the button "Book of Gratitude". Fill out the form. If you wish, the prayer request can be added to the video that will be shown after our livestream Masses on Sunday at 8:00 and 10:00 am.

While watching Mass on line at 6:30 am during the week and at 8 & 10 am on Sun-day, and it is time for the distribution of the Eucharist (Communion), you may say the

following Prayer of Spiritual Communion: My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen

Dear St. John Vianney community,

I am grateful for our family and friends that contributed to our Rise Again Capital Campaign. The Rise Again Capi-tal Campaign officially ended as of December 31, 2020, and I wish to express my sincere gratitude for the generosity and sacrifice made by our families and friends. We came very close to fulfilling our updated goal of $7,000,000.00.

Our community has faced and overcome many difficulties, including, the Covid-19 pandemic. During these times of suffering, I have witnessed the strength of our Christian faith which is the foundation of our community and has helped us to transform suffering and struggles into living signs of hope.

I invite you to continue to fulfill your pledge and/or contin-ue to offer support of our new church by changing your cur-rent Rise Again Capital Campaign donations to the Build-ing/Maintenance Fund (green envelopes). May God bless you, your family and loved ones as you continue to support this community with your service, your sacrifice, and your prayers.

Sincerely,

Fr. Tim

Sinceramente,

Padre Tim

Need Volunteers!

The St. John Vianney Be-reavement Ministry has been very busy responding to the

needs of our fellow parishioners. Additional volun-teers would be a tremendous help at this time.

If you are interested in being part of this much-appreciated service, please consider either:

1. Acting as a contact between the family and the Church to assist with the details of the Funeral Mass (contact is by phone only). OR

2. Being a "greeter" -- assisting the family in person at the Funeral Mass.

All questions and inquiries are welcome!

For additional information, please contact Pat Lewis 626-961-2660.

Did you know? -- Prep your children with scripts to stay safe Role-playing with your children is a critical step in keeping them safe from abuse, peer pressure, and oth-er dangerous situations. Prep your children with the language they need to say “stop,” or “no thanks,” or to express any discomfort. Talk through different scenar-ios with them and have them practice how they would respond in their own words. Arming children with strong, confident responses to uncomfortable situa-tions will help them draw on those words when they need them. FEAST OF FAITH

The Shape of the Eucharistic Prayer

Our Eucharistic Prayers originated in the traditional Jewish meal prayers known as berakah, which were prayers of thanksgiving used at meals. Over the centuries, the Christian thanksgiving, or Eucharist, gradually took shape. While in the East the Eucharistic Prayers (called anaphora) took many forms, in the Roman Church there was for many centuries just one Eucharistic Prayer, called the Roman Canon (now known as Eucharistic Prayer I). Almost all Eucharistic Prayers include the same basic elements. They begin with thanksgiving and acclamation. Then there is an epiclesis, as the priest calls down the Holy Spirit upon the gifts. Then follows the institution narrative and con-secration, as the words that Jesus spoke at the Last Supper are repeated. After the consecration, we remember in an explicit way all that Christ has done for us—this is the anamnesis, or remembering. The prayer concludes with the offering, the intercessions—prayers for the Church, our leaders, ourselves—and a final doxology of praise. The reforms of the Second Vatican Council enriched our liturgy with additional Eucharistic Prayers, including both ancient texts (Eucharistic Prayer II is based on the most ancient of all existing Eucharistic Prayers) and new compositions. —Corinna Laughlin, Copyright © J.
