Greetings Class of 2015, My name is Darius Thomas, a sophomore Speech-Language Pathology
& Audiology major from Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I will serve as your 2011-
2012 Vice-President for the School of Communications Student Council.
This school year will be phenomenal unlike any other. The programs, the
mentor-mentee program and the opportunities that Student Council will
put on for you will actually leave you speechless. The Square One
Administration ran on the platform “Learning from the Past to Improve
the Future”, as we learn from mistakes made in the past we will build
upon something great for YOU! I really hope that you come into Howard
University open minded, ready to learn and to experience a new lifestyle.
Throughout the School Year please stop by the council office on the 1st
floor in Rm. C…just to say hello or to give some of your ideas or maybe
even your grievances of things that you may like to see changed. I look
forward to seeing you as you matriculate throughout Howard University.
Feel free to contact me through email at [email protected],
through cell at 225-806-1769 or visit the council office in the School of
Communications anytime between 9:00am – 5:00p.m.
Sincerely, Darius Thomas Vice-President

Normally this page would be to
inform you of what is going on
in the University. First—here is
a message for old heads and
newcomers alike:
You’re at Howard University. Now what?
Rule No.1: getting here was the easy part. Too
many people focus on the fact that they ATTEND
Howard. And? No one at Howard cares,
because, guess what? We ALL go here too. It’s
not about where you start or how you start; it’s
about how you finish. Remember that. Rule No.2:
Don’t get caught up. Girls, Guys, Grades. Life,
love, liberty. It is incredibly easy to get caught
up in the fame, the fake, and the foolish. Be
2
honest with yourself: what are you here for? You
answer that question and let that guide your
decision.
Rule No. 3: Being a student at Howard is a mirror of
you. You decided to come here. What does that say
about you? You decided to study in the School of
Communication. Why? The habits you develop or
perfect here will likely determine the person you are
and will become.
Don’t like what you realize about yourself in the
mirror? Change it.
