I would like to thank our instructors for this term, all who volunteer their time to help you and your dogs. I would also like to congratulate members of the club who have done well at obedience, breed and rally o. Congratulations to all those students who passed their class this term. And to those who didn't quite make it, don't despair, look at how far you and your dog have come this term and don't forget any time spent working with and training your dog is time well spent. Next term starts on the 16 th August and continues at Longburn. It is always helpful if you pre-enrol so that we have an idea of numbers. You can do this either with the enrolment form given out tonight or by going to dogtraining.org.nz. Our club also has a Facebook page where we post information. Please join us and feel free to post as well. As winter is definitely feeling like it has hit us please remember to stay visible, safe and warm. I trust you have all had an enjoyable term of training and hope to see many of you back next term. Remember training should be fun. Keep up the good work, Robyn

PRESIDENT’S BLOG:-

Here we are nearly over our third term of training. It is great to see people coming along

for training even on some terrible wet nights. It is good to get out and train regardless of

the weather as they require walking even on those wet cold nights.

At the end of last term in our break we held our first one night training class for children

with their dogs…. It was a great evening and the children and the instructors had a

wonderful time. We are repeating the evening in our break again on the 9th August; you

would have received enrolment forms last week. If you have a youth handler who would

like to come along and have fun with their dog then please enrol.

Our club holds its annual Championship Obedience and Rally O show on the 3 & 4

September out at our Ashhurst grounds. It is a great opportunity to come out and look at

some wonderful dogs in action. On these weekends we also need helpers so give some

thought to if you would be available to come and help…. Home baking is always great

in the kitchen.

I would like to thank our instructors for this term, all who volunteer their time to help

you and your dogs. I would also like to congratulate members of the club who have

done well at obedience, breed and rally o.

Congratulations to all those students who passed their class this term. And to those who

didn't quite make it, don't despair, look at how far you and your dog have come this term

and don't forget any time spent working with and training your dog is time well spent.

Next term starts on the 16th August and continues at Longburn. It is always helpful if

you pre-enrol so that we have an idea of numbers. You can do this either with the

enrolment form given out tonight or by going to dogtraining.org.nz.

Our club also has a Facebook page where we post information. Please join us and feel

free to post as well.

As winter is definitely feeling like it has hit us please remember to stay visible, safe and

warm.

I trust you have all had an enjoyable term of training and hope to see many of you back

The Club will be holding it’s annual

Obedience & Rally-O Championship Show 3rd & 4th September 2016

Being held at Manawatu Canine Centre,

Cambridge Street, Ashhurst

Starts 9.30am Saturday and 9am Sunday till just after lunch

COME ALONG & HAVE A LOOK

With WINTER well & truly here think about a coat for your old dog or those dogs who don’t have a lovely thick winter

coat of their own.

Instructor / Committee Profile:

Back in ’98 I had a 2yr old Staffy/Lab cross, Penny, who we thought

needed socialising with other dogs so enrolled her in the Basic Obedience

classes offered by TADTC. Well I got hooked into dog training &

obedience competition and many years later I’m still here.

I live with Angus 13yrs (Labrador), Christian 8½ (Labrador), Herbie 4½

(Dachshund/Corgi X), 3 cats, numerous roosters & hens and, of course,

hubby Owen.

I started competing in obedience with Penny, dabbled in a bit of agility

with Molly, did a bit of obedience competition with Angus & Christian

and am currently competing in Rally-O with Christian, which we both

really enjoy. We also enjoy the social side as much as the competition

and have had many happy holidays/travels to shows around the country.

I have been on the Committee and been instructing classes for TADTC

for numerous years now and it is not only my dogs who have had a great

time socialising. One of the highlights of being an instructor is seeing

progress dogs & their handlers make coming to class and also the

enjoyment they get learning new skills & activities to do together.

Rally-O

Rally-O is a great dog sport that can be enjoyed by dogs (and people!) of any age and ability.

It is a sport where the dog and their handler are required to perform a different exercise

every few metres. Exercises include combinations of turns, sits, downs, presents, finishes,

changes of position, heeling around cones, halts, stays and jumps. Even though Rally-O has

evolved from Competitive Obedience, it does not require the same level of precision as

Obedience and it is suitable for the first-time dog owner, as well as the more experienced dog

owner. The aim is for the dog & handler to work as a team.

Rally-O is fun and exciting!

Old dogs are NEVER too old to learn new things:

Angus started training for Rally-O at age 11½ years and competing at 12 years old. He was the first Tararua Allbreeds Dog Training Club dog to achieve the NZKC Rally-O Novice title.

Young Handler’s Night

We were lucky that the weather decided to be kind to us and we had no rain on this

evening. The Young handlers and their dogs were split into 2 groups. Nerolie & Chris

worked with them on the Rally O side and walking planks. Robyn & Cushla helped

on the weaving, jumps, tunnels and tricks. After each team had worked on both sides

a small course was put up for the handlers to put their dog through. This was timed

and they all did a wonderful job.

On the 7th June we held our first ever Child Handler night. This was held between

terms on a Tuesday night. We had 6 young handlers and dogs who participated in

some Rally O exercises, trick training, lead control, low jumps and tunnels.
