We all get in a rut. But, I recently read the article put out by our national communications director about barbecuing breakfast and I got inspired. It dawned on me that it has a lot of good content that all the dealers can use in social media postings and on web sites. No matter what fuel is used, cooking food on the grill adds flavor. Think you don’t have time to prepare breakfast on the grill? Chop up potatoes and tomatoes the night before and put in foil pockets, griddle your sausages and serve eggs scrambled with diced mushrooms and red peppers sautéed in the pan. If you can do it in a kitchen, you can do it outdoors. Except for walking outside, it takes no more time to cook and enjoy breakfast outdoors. So, why don’t you post that on your social media and get all your customers hungry for grill accessories or a whole new BBQ! Happy grilling and happy summer to you all. HPBExpo 2017 Results Over four days, HPBExpo 2017 attracted 6,781 registered attendees to the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta to see the latest innovations in indoor-outdoor living. With 411 exhibitors across 129,200 sq. ft. of floor space, new business relationships were established, purchases were made, and HPBExpo once again ranked as the premier event our industry. IT’S COMING, IT’S COMING! NEW IN 2018!All Owners, Managers & Salespeople Will Be Able To Be NFI Certified Hearth Design Specialists! Many, if not most, of the major product and installation decisions are made during the sales process. This new certification is designed so sales personnel have the technical knowledge they need to guide their customers through the decision-making process. This will improve the relationships with the customers and with the installers. Ultimately, those with this certification will be more professional in the sales process.
Topics include the basic theory of combustion, draft, product choices, safety considerations, applicable codes & standards, venting and the basic principles of woodburning, gas and pellet appliances.
The first of the review and exam modules will be offered at EXPO next March, 2018. Our affiliate will also offer it at our annual meeting in spring. You’ll want to be the first in your market to hold this certification!

When backyards are at their best, consumers are more likely to be barbecuing and enjoying their outdoor living space year-round! That’s why HPBA’s Your Best Backyard Campaign offers consumers a chance to take part in a fun and informative personality quiz, and contests to motivate them to enhance their outdoor living space this season.
The Best Backyard Personality Quiz helps consumers hone in what outdoor living upgrades will best suit their needs: appliance type owned, current outdoor set up, accessories, grilling frequency, foods cooked, amount of people entertained, and future purchase plans. When consumers love their backyards, they use our members’ products more increasing the industry’s visibility in the general public.
This campaign also includes two contests where consumers have a chance to win prizes. The Best Backyard Photo Contest kicks off in May during National Barbecue Month and invites consumers to share photos of their best backyard. Photos with the most votes will win a prize. The 7 Grills for 7 Couples Contest will feature seven member products for seven lucky newly married couples. Members’ products are promoted throughout June on social media, reaching thousands of online consumers organically, and featured on the website for visitors and participants.
