Help Your AC This SummerTemperatures have been high this summer. We generally have a 15-day period of temperatures in the 90s during July. I lost count, but I think we had quite a few this summer. It is import-ant for your wallet and your air condi oner that you don’t over-do it.

Keep the AC in the house

If you have an older home, it is import-ant that you aren’t leaking cool air through the window seals, poorly insulat-ed a c, or other exposed holes. If you think your house is leaking out cold air, then sign up for a home energy audit with your u lity provider. Com Ed off ers a free assessment to homeowners, check it out. If you don’t want to deal with that, then do a mini-audit yourself! Walk around the perimeter of your home, and run your hand along all windows, door frames, etc. If you feel cold air escaping, then apply some caulk.

Trade in and Upgrade

If you don’t have a smart ther-mostat, then get one! Smart thermostats can regulate your hea ng and cooling when you are not home to save you mon-ey. They allow you to manage temperatures remotely which is pre y cool. Some thermostats can be controlled by Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, Apply HomeKit, and Google

If you’re feeling high-tech you can install a smart ceiling fan that will connect to your mobile phone app. You can schedule mes for your fan

to run and control the speed remotely.

How to solve:To solve a Sudoku, you only need logic and patience. No math is required. Simply make sure that each 3x3 square region has a number between 1-9 with only one occurrence of each number. Each column and row of the large grid may only have one instance of 1-9.

We wanted to introduce everyone to a new feature we will be rolling out from time to time in the Cozy Newsletter. As you can see, the name kind of explains the meat and potatoes of the section. We want to provide answers, whether they be to a reader question, ones we get a lot around the offi ce, or even to anticipated inquiries about new techniques or proce-dures in the HVAC industry. To kick off the fi rst edition, here’s something we are oft en asked, especially when there’s been a lot of rain.

Q: "What humidity levels are best for my home or business and how do I maintain proper levels throughout the season?"

Well, the simple answer is that the ideal indoor humidity range for our area is 50%. Th is allows for a comfortable climate or indoor feel, while also ensuring mold and other growths don’t occur. High humidity levels are what

can cause severe IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) problems as well as respiratory and other illnesses for those in the home or building.

Th e more complex question is how to maintain that 50% level, and heck, how to even know what your indoor humidity is. Experts like us use a Fieldpiece Psychrometer to measure indoor temperatures and humidity levels. But, you can buy thermostats and other indoor sensors, through us or online, that will show you the humidity levels in your home.

Th e fi rst way to ensure proper humidity levels is by simply having your air conditioning maintained. A well-maintained system that was properly de-signed for a home, and has the proper amount of airfl ow will yield ideal indoor humidity lev-els. When air conditioning works effi ciently it can run a long even cycle and de-humidify the home or space to create the desired 50%

humidity level.

Now, proper air conditioning in main living spaces is important, but we must also address areas that can add humidity to your home which aren’t conditioned by your AC. Th ese would be places like basements and crawl spaces (with their proximity to moisture and water), bathrooms and attics. All are areas that typ-ically experience higher levels of humidity. Th e lower levels may need additional de-humidifi ca-tion while the attic and bath-rooms need proper ventilation.

Th ere is more than one solution. Th e right thermostat and equip-ment can allow you to add de-hu-midifi cation to the end of the air conditioning cycle. Another way is to add a stand-alone de-humid-

ifi er. Th ese can be purchased at a box store or online, but be sure the unit(s) are not part of any recall. Or, consider a larger scale stand- alone unit that can remove 3x more than those off ered retail provide. Th ese goliaths are ideal for the large basements in this area, and can provide relief not previously available to homeown-ers. Th ese units must be bought through professionals like us, but would ensure you are getting proper design, set-up, installa-tion, and operation. If that solu-tion appeals to you, no worries. We can help provide the ideal indoor humidity level – even if you have an indoor pool!

Regular Season TO Follow

Hey everyone it is your good buddy Franklin here coming to you this month with the latest and great-est from the dog world. Well, to be fair, at least the dog world according to me, which is really all I care about.

Anyway, I am coming to you this month while "working from home", I mean, that is what I am calling it. As you can see from the picture I have been on high alert ever since I bumped into this fellow. As I came down

A D0G’S W0RLDA D0G’S W0RLDfor my early morning pot-ty time right on schedule Murphy and I were greeted by this young raccoon. He was so curious about us he put his nose right up the window to say hello. At least I hope it is hello. If it was anything else he might not want to show his face around here anymore.

Well, that is all I have time for this month as it is my turn to guard the window and be on raccoon watch. Murphy says he is tired,

or he is just bored, maybe really just distracted by the other wildlife...Oh well, until next time, best!

Originally from China, peaches are a symbol of good luck, wealth, and protection, and have been cultivated for over a thousand years. They are nutritious; containing a high concentration of vitamins A, B, and C. President Ronald Reagan named August National Peach Month. To celebrate, head down to Gaffney, South Carolina to see the World’s Largest Peach weighing in at over ten thousand pounds! (It’s the peach-shaped water tower). Or bake this sweet treat:

*You can substitute 4 cups of PEELED and sliced fresh peaches. Peeling can be done by bringing a pot of water to boil, removing it from heat then carefully dropping peaches into hot water for one minute. Remove with slotted spoon to an ice water bath. When the peaches have cooled enough to handle, the skin should slip right off.

In This Issue:

Well, it must be August be-cause I was told it was time for me to off er my words of "wis-dom" for the newsletter. For those of you I have not seen recently or talked to lately, I hope this fi nds you well! We have had a very busy summer around here as I am sure you can imagine. We have been part of a lot of great projects and brought cooling relief to lots and lots of Cozy Newslet-ter readers out there.

I can imagine we will still be into cooling season as we roll through August and into Sep-tember. I know this is a busy time for most of our readers with camps ending and back to school in sight. So, do not worry if you need our help as we are still fully ratcheted into cooling season and fi xing and

maintaining air conditioners on a daily basis. One quick tip (OK two) I want to share with you is that with this being the start of Au-gust we should be at the end of cottonwood season. And whether you have or have not had us out for mainte-nance you are going to want to go take a look at your outdoor unit. If it is packed with cotton-woods go grab the hose and wash the coils on the outside from top to bottom. Try to do

it when the system is not run-ning. Th e second - give your fi lter a quick check. Th ese two quick chores can save you money and aggravation.

On a more positive note I do enjoy this time of year as I can ensure we are caught up with proj-ects, maintenance, and various parts or equipment that need to get coordinated. I can also take a second to say thanks to those of you out there who continu-ally put trust in our company season aft er season. You are the reason we have been able to thrive and grow since 1983. And the best news for both of

us is there is no end in sight. With my family's help and em-

ployees hard work and dedica-tion we are here to serve you now and for years to come. So yes; thank you!

- Tom
