AREA AGENCY ON AGING AND INDEPENDENT LIVING

Has Our Greatest Generation Been Forgotten? If you are around seniors for any length of time it’s easy to see how vulnerable and overlooked our elders have become, especially nursing home residents. They can be as defenseless as newborns, yet we don’t give them a fraction of the time and attention we give to infants. These are the people that developed the world we now live in. The teachers, doctors, architects, veterans, clergy, clerks, mothers, nurses only to mention a few. They are the ones that have gone before us and paved the way. Now it’s our turn to return to them what they have so freely given us. The Pennyrile Long Term Care Ombudsman Office offers a Friendly Visitor program to help relieve residents’ isolation. Volunteers undergo a background check and two hours of training. They then visit residents weekly for about an hour. Now, is our time to give back. Call Cindy Tabor, Pennyrile District Ombudsman, 270-886-9484 or [email protected] to find out more. In the Pennyrile district we have 30 facilities in nine counties and volunteers are needed in every county and facility.
