Welcome, and in the blink of an eye, it’s August already!

Over the past months technology has played an important role in Rusthall Lodge, whether clinically or socially so it’s wonderful to see one of our residents enjoying a recorded version of ‘The Nutcracker’ on interactiveMe, an occupational led technology that’s available to all our residents.

The system allows us to tailor our “wellbeing” programme to the specific loves of ourresidents, so with a love of ballet, whatcould have been a better way to spendthe afternoon.

If you would like to join the interactiveMefamily, please speak to Andrea; thesystem doesn’t cost you anything andcould bring hours of meaningfulengagement for you or for your lovedone.

This is one of the ways we’re making adifference to the lives of the residentsin our care.

This month, we’re delighted to hearfrom one of our maintenanceofficers, Vince Cox...

My day typically starts with a walk around the building ensuring the plant room and communal areas are running smoothly and that there isn’t anything amiss or not working.

Readings and temperatures are taken and the main power panels and the boilers are checked over. I then check the maintenance books on both floors to see if there are any outstanding or new jobs that need attending too in our resident’s rooms.

This can range from the replacement of a faulty light bulb to completely stripping down a toilet cistern and replacing the flushing system.

Up until recently, these ‘reactive’ jobs weretransferred into another paper format butmore recently we have moved towards anew electronic maintenance system thatenables us to record our jobs and plannedpreventative maintenance.

The system is called Fiix, and although it’sa new system that I’m still getting used to,it really is proving to be a real asset to themaintenance department.

Musically, I’m still really enjoying the chanceto be able to sing for our residents althoughthe current situation has restricted theamount of times I've been able to it.

However, the recent gorgeous sunshine and a gentle relaxation of isolation procedures enabled me to set up and sing (socially distanced) in the garden with and for our residents.

In conclusion, my job as maintenance officer continues to be both challenging and incredibly rewarding and I count myself extremely blessed to be able to work with such a great team and for our wonderful residents.

News from the HomeWho could have predicted we’d be facing so many uncertainties in 2020

Does anyone remember Old Moore’s Alamanak with it’s predictions of forecasts, events and upcoming horse fairs? Well, even earlier than Moore’s, there was Nostradamus who did predict a serious illness that would spread to many countries around the world, making it impossible for people to travel? Believe it or not...

What you can believe though, is that through this crisis, we are

There might not be television coverage of the matches but we can still enjoy some of the flavours of this wonderful sporting occasion.

working to make every day an enjoyable one for our residents. At the time of writing, it’s Wimbledon

but of course 2020 has been cancelled.

Rachelle and her team in the kitchen managedto bring the sweet taste of Wimbledon to our residents with Pimms

and of course strawberries.

But with all this sweetness, there has to be exercise to ensure our residents don’t put on too much weight. We achieve part of this with a healthy, balanced diet as well as regular exercise classes. One class over Zoom that has really proved successful is with Henry, and while there were only a few weeks without his charismatic approach to exercise, the residents are really pleased he’s back in the room, albeit on the television.
