Run for CASI!

Run for CASI!

CASI Connections2

If I had a dollar for every time I heard someone say “I had no idea” when they walked through the doors at CASI, I would never have to raise another dollar for our mission here. We often call ourselves “the best kept secret in the Quad Cities.” While CASI has been proudly providing services to area seniors for almost 50 years, a majority of Quad Citizens have no idea what exactly we do. What they DO know is they aren’t old enough to go to a Senior Center. And to that I always say, “You gotta see it to believe it!”

Since 1973, CASI has been providing home- and community-based services to Quad Cities adults over the age of 55 with the sole intent of helping them age well independently with dignity and grace. For some this means making connections after a divorce or a death. For others it means staying fit and active after retirement. And for still others it means seeking reliable information and supportive services in a time of need. No matter what the reason, CASI is at the center of aging in our Quad Cities.

Still don’t believe me? Well, you really do need to see it to believe it. Because I believe so strongly that once you do see it you will love it as much as I do, CASI is offering free membership through June 2022CASI is offering free membership through June 2022. That’s right. We are so confident you will love all that we have to offer at the center, we are waiving our annual membership fee!

Do you want to meet new friends? We offer close to 8,000 activities annually that are geared towards socialization, health and wellness, and supportive services.

Do you want to work out and stay healthy? Our Fit for Life Fitness Center is open every day offering a wide range of equipment options.

Are you looking for something good to eat? Eleanor’s Café offers good food and good company at reasonable prices and is open daily from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm for breakfast, lunch and great coffee.

Are you looking to tap into your inner artist? We offer art and craft classes which include Vino Van Gogh, Bob Ross painting classes, knitting, crocheting, and our beloved Ugly Quilt club.

Do you need information about Medicare? We are a state approved SHIIP (Senior Health Insurance Information Program) site.

Do you need help caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias?Jane’s Place Adult Day Services (ADS) is Eastern Iowa’s only licensed ADS program for individuals diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias.

CASI really does have something for everyone. But don’t take my word for it! Come see us so you can “See it and believe it.”

Laura L. Kopp, MS President/CEO of CASI

National Senior Citizen’s DayWe’re planning some special treats for

National Senior Citizen’s DayFriday, August 20th

at CASI.

You’re invited to stop by and enjoy a treat

to celebrate this special day.

We look forward to seeing you then!

Want to be part of the St. Patrick’s Day Race fun but not a runner yourself? We’re looking for volunteersWe’re looking for volunteers

for race day, Saturday, August 28th.

Please contact Any Warren at CASI to find out about some fun opportunities!

Email Amy at [email protected] or call her at 563.386.7477 ext. 252.

Please continue to save your cell phones (any type) and eye glasses to bring to CASI. Boxes for both are found in the lobby. We are working on sending in a second box of cell phones for recycling.

Not only is it a great opportunity for CASI to receive some important funds but it keeps batteries and e-waste out of landfills.

Our Friends at the Lions Club are grateful for the glasses that we pass along to them for reuse.

Thank you.

Financial Education Spotlight

Sometimes the hardest part about budgeting is just getting started. It’s not the most exciting thing but creating a plan helps get you on the right track. Here are three easy categories to start with.

1. Must-haves. These are your essentials. From reoccurring bills, fees, and grocery items - think through those thingsyou can’t go without.

2. Savings. Also known as your backup umbrella for a rainy day. Figure out how much cash you can set aside for thatextra peace of mind.

3. Wants. This category falls last for a reason. List out everything you splurge on and do a quick trim where you can. Youdon’t have to cut things out entirely but keep an eye out for trends that add up!

All in all, a budget doesn’t have to be overly complicated. You can keep it simple and easy to follow. Just remember to revisit and refresh your budget from time to time!
