NP Angie Kocher A patient came in for a DOT physical and stated that he was from out of town and needed to get his DOT renewed before he could return home. He did not pass his DOT exam due to health issues. Angie worked nonstop trying to find someone who would be able to see him that day. She was able to get him set up with a doctor in Andover. Q: Who is Feeding America?

A: Feeding America is a nationwide network of 200 food banks that leads the fight against hunger in the United States. Together, they provide food to more than 46 million people through food pantries and meal programs in communities throughout America. Feeding America also supports programs that improve food security among the people we serve, educates the public about the problem of hunger and advocates for legislation that protects people from going hungry. Individuals, charities, businesses and the government all have a role in ending hunger.

Q: Why are we partnering with Feeding America for the flu shot campaign?

A: The partnership with Feeding America allows us to make an even stronger emotional connection with our patients and support the communities that we serve. In addition to being protected for the upcoming flu season, our patients can also feel good about supporting their local community. Kroger already has long-standing relationship with Feeding America. For more than 40 years we have assisted Feeding America in its mission to help feed our nation’s hungry through a nationwide network of local food banks and to engage our communities in the fight to end hunger. Kroger donates more than 5 million meals each week to local food banks.

Q: How long does the promotion last?

A: The promotion began August 1, 2016 and concludes April 1, 2017. All flu shots administered during this time will be included.

Q: How much are Kroger and TLC actually donating?

A: Kroger will donate $0.09 for each flu shot administered. 1 dollar helps provide 11 meals secured by Feeding America.

Q: How can Feeding America provide that many meals for just one dollar?

A: The low cost per meal achieved by Feeding America is derived from their successful partnerships with major manufacturers, retailers and other corporate partners. Because we negotiate large-scale, nationwide donation programs with our corporate partners, we are able to maximize efficiency and economies of scale.

For example, rather than paying full retail or wholesale prices for the food we distribute, Feeding America national office staff works directly with national manufacturers and retailers across the country to secure donations of safe, healthful food that would otherwise go to waste and/or be dumped in a landfill. Feeding America then makes that donated food available to our member food banks which in turn help distribute the food to their clients in need. Last year alone, we helped secure more than 1.6 billion pounds of food donations in this manner.

Q: What do I do if I need additional POS or didn’t receive what I need for my store?

A: Email Chasity Auberger at [email protected].

Eat Well at Work From Molly Hembree, RDN, LD Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with The Little Clinic

When building a healthy meal or snack, it’s important to not just think food, but also make the most of beverage choices! This month’s highlight is “Mamma Chia” chia seed drinks. These 10 ounce containers pack a punch and offer 6-7 grams of fiber (namely soluble fiber, which may help control our cholesterol) and 2,500 milligrams of “ALA” omega-3 fatty acids (which is made into “EPA” and “DHA” fats that may protect our heart and brain) per 120 calorie bottle. Equally impressive are the four grams per serving of plant-based protein. If you are not familiar with chia seeds, they become gelatinous when hydrated and have a unique mouthfeel, which will intrigue your palate! Phil Lempert, the “Supermarket Guru,” even dubbed these drinks his “Pick of the Week” this past January. So, if you are short on time, looking for a midday pick-me-up or wanting to be smart about complementing your meal or snack, choosing a refreshing “Mamma Chia” chia seed drink can keep your health in check while delivering on nutrition. And with 15 different flavors - from “Blackberry Hibiscus” to “Cayenne and Lemon” - you’re sure to find a taste that satisfies.

Q4 Co-Branded Flu Shot Campaign with Pharmacy – Sign KitFrom Chasity Auberger, Marketing Communications Manager

As previously mentioned, this year we will be doing a co-branded flu shot campaign with our pharmacy partners and Feeding America. Flu shot signage should have already arrived at your clinics. Your store’s pharmacy signage will also be included in your TLC sign kit.

Their signage will be placed in a smaller plastic bag inside the TLC kit and will contain the individual items. Some clinics will also have real estate hardware and aisle invader hardware that are individually wrapped. Please give these items to your pharmacy.

On the following page is a chart outlining what each region should expect to recieve. If for some reason you are missing any expected items or any of the TLC sign kit, please email Chasity Auberger at [email protected].

You can find an instruction sheet for the TLC sign kit here.

Clinic Staff at The Little Clinic in Parker, Colo.

I went into The Little Clinic today for a sore throat and pink eye. I was treated very promptly and given a discount considering I don’t have insurance. Both the receptionist and the nurse practitioner were very friendly and helpful. I was given a prescription for my eye and it was filled quickly right there in the store. I will definitely go there again if I have any other small issues!
